The City.. A dense and sprawling metropolitan complex which houses not only its citizens but also many dark secrets, unnatural creatures and mysterious ruins. The rule within The City is made by dark deities through their separate Factions.
The Hammerites, who represent Order, and the Pagans, who represent Chaos, make war upon each other behind the scenes. The activities within The City are being watched by the Keepers, those that have charged themselves with the duty of keeping the Balance.

A Balance that might soon be shifted..

The weather has been cold and windy in The City for the last few days and it doesn't look like it's about to let up. Expect rain coupled with heavy storms throughout the rest of the month.

About the setting
The Sanctuary uses a medieval city setting with fantasy and steampunk elements. We profile ourselves first and foremost as a city life RP, taking place in medieval times. Though the fantasy and steampunk elements have an influence in this every day life, they do not effect things like races or appearance as some fantasy setting used.
When asking yourself questions about the setting (such as, would my character be able to have green hair? Or can I RP an elf?) just remember these two words: ‘humans’ and ‘medieval’. Common sense should be able to give you your answers after that.

About The City
The RP takes place in a large metropolis known only as The City. The City is a fan based location; it was originally used to provide the setting for the games Thief I, II & III. Besides the location and more interesting aspects we’ve based ourselves on nothing else featured in these games.
The choice to fan base the RP on The City was made because it’s a very interesting and largely unexplored location which leaves a lot of room for creative minds.

About races
The City houses only humans. As mentioned before, we consider ourselves a medieval city RP and though The City has a large variety of fantasy elements, it doesn’t house your average fantasy race.

About appearance
Humans in The City mirror humans as you would’ve encountered them in any given European medieval city long ago. For a lack of a better word, you could state that the humans in The City have a ‘normal’ appearance.
We would ask that you keep the same thing in mind while considering a name for your character. These are ‘normal’ human beings and as such they do not carry Elven of otherwise complicated high fantasy names.

About Factions
The City has three playable factions. Though the factions do not officially rule The City, they are responsible for many of its progress and events. A classic struggle takes place between the Hammerites, who represent Order, and the Pagans, who represent Chaos. Amidst their personal war you will find the Keepers, a neutral faction in charge with defending the Balance between Order and Chaos.
For more information about the Factions, read this thread.

But although the factions are in many ways the core of The City they are not the only people take make their home there. The City also houses different citizens such as peasants, servants, nobles, merchants, thieves, robbers and many others.
You are by no means required to choose a faction for your character, there are many other options. However, while you are considering these options we ask that you once again remind yourself that we are not a high fantasy setting.

About occupations
People in The City work and live their lives much like people used to do in traditional medieval cities. The work that your character does all depends on the life that you would have him/her lead. Is your character a noble? That would mean that he doesn’t do the same things as a character leads the life of a servant. And the same thing goes for a character that’s joined the Hammerites and one who’s joined the Keepers.
Again, we remind you of the fact that we are medieval city RP. With that in your mind, you should be able to come up with a good occupation for your character.
