General Appearance: Sinister is a tall, muscular (without being too bulky) man, with stark white skin and jet black hair. His red eyes, and a diamond shaped insignia on his forehead complete the look that many would compare to a vampire. He has jagged teeth, and black lips (whether this is makeup or not is unknown, though the fact that he has appeared with white lips only serves to compound the mystery). When he is in his standard form, he generally wears a dark purple suit of armour, but this may also be a form he takes rather than an actual suit. His appearance is, as his name implies, quite sinister, and makes most people around him quite uneasy.

Personality: Sinister is, for lack of a better term, obsessed with evolution, particularly the evolutionary process that has given rise to the x gene displaying mutant race. To say his obsession is unhealthy is a massive understatement. His obsession carries through towards certain individuals, namely the Summers family, as he believed their DNA is the key to mutant survival and superiority. To this end he has kept tabs on Scott Summers and his brother ever since the day Scott first manifested his mutant abilities. His obsession could border on paedophilia, or some other form of deviancy, and he has no qualms about killing people to further his own ends. Sinister is a master manipulator, and while he may smile at you with a broad, genuine grin, be wary of the knife he may have stuck in your back.

Powers: Superhuman Strength: Sinister possesses superhuman strength, which allows him to lift/press the equivalent of ten tons in optimum conditions. He also has superhuman reflexes and stamina (which allows him to exert himself for up to 24 hours before fatigue sets in).

Healing Factor/Shapeshifting: Sinister possesses the ability to completely control every molecule in his body, which allows him to heal injuries that would otherwise kill the average person in a matter of seconds. This molecular control also gives him the ability to adapt his form, shapeshifting into whatever person he pleases with astounding accuracy.

Concussive blasts: Sinister can also shoot powerful concussive blasts from both his hands and the diamond insignia on his forehead, though he rarely uses the latter.

Telepathy: Sinister is a top class telepath, on par with the likes of Jean Grey and Emma Frost. He can read and control minds, he can induce temporary mental and/or physical paralysis, he can temporarily (though there is no reason why he could not do it permanently) 'mind-wipe' an opponent, reducing them to a vegetative state, and he can even turn off a mutant's powers.

He has the ability to teleport, but that is more a technological ability rather than a genetic one.

Being a master geneticist with a genius intellect, Sinister can clone individuals with ease, often in great numbers, and can even predict when certain mutations may occur. He is an extremely skilled surgeon, and a gifted mechanical engineer, able to create incredibly advanced devices.

Weaknesses: His obsession at times can overrule his rational mind, forcing him to extend his reach too far, endangering his own plans.

Power Potential: Bar any further genetic manipulation, Sinister's abilities are at their peak.

History: Sinister was born Nathaniel Essex in the early 1800s in Victorian England. A gifted scientist, Essex, like many of his peers, had great interest in Darwin’s theory of evolution. However, he differed from his colleagues in that he became obsessed with the theory, and began researching ways to accelerate the evolutionary process. Using selective breeding (among other things), Essex set out to improve upon Darwin’s theory, and prove that evolution itself could be manipulated and wasn’t restricted to a slow incremental process. Soon, he stumbled upon what he claimed to be the secret to hereditary mutation, calling it the ‘Essex Factor’ and he continued his research even more vehemently. He originally had a wife and child, but his experiments on his dead son meant that he lost his wife, leaving him alone.

A band of criminals hired by Essex to bring him subjects stumbled upon the grave of the ancient mutant En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse. Sensing something in Essex, Apocalypse used his vast knowledge to tear apart Sinister’s genetic structure and put it back together in a relatively short space of time, granting the solitary scientist new abilities, and making him a fully fledged member of homo superior. His new status confirmed, Essex took the name Sinister, as it was the last word spoken to him by his late wife.

Apocalypse originally wanted Sinister to create a plague to wipe out the weak of the world, but Sinister worked toward his own ends, believing Apocalypse’s motivations to be cumbersome and unscientific. He instead created a plague to attack Apocalypse, which drove En Sabah Nur into hibernation, allowing Sinister to continue his own work uninterrupted.

Many years later, Sinister discovered the whereabouts of a mutant he believed contained the genetic material vital for the survival of the human race, and the ultimate destruction of Apocalypse. That mutant was a young Scott Summers, who had recently been injured in a near fatal accident. Bringing both Scott and his brother Alex (who would be adopted due to Sinister not believing Alex was a mutant with any discernable power, with the added bonus of Scott becoming more emotionally vulnerable) to the orphanage, Sinister kept a close eye on Scott while the young mutant was in his care, even devising the ruby quartz glasses that Scott would rely on in future to protect those around him from his destructive optic blasts.

Taking on many forms using his shapeshifting ability, Sinister was able to keep tabs on Scott 24/7, as the orphanage owner, the orphanage’s resident doctor, and even several children. As Lefty, Sinister even killed a prospective couple that wished to adopt Scott. When Scott befriended a new doctor, Robyn Hanover, Sinister brainwashed her, further damaging Scott emotionally, and weakening his resolve, or so he thought. Scott soon ran away, and eventually ended up in the care of Professor Charles Xavier, out of Sinister’s reach.

Sinister still watches Scott as best he can, awaiting the day his former liege reawakens so that he may finally destroy him...

The large pod opened, and a figure clad in purple emerged, his skin having a strange viscous quality.

“George, welcome…”

The man looked around, taking in his surroundings… He noticed the man who spoke to him, as well as several others. One was a werewolf-esque creature, his thick brown fur shedding. Another was a tall, striking woman with white hair, her figure-hugging outfit almost designed to attract attention. Alongside her was a white-haired man, though he bore little resemblance to the woman. He wore a long coat, and would look quite inconspicuous were he not in the surroundings they all currently occupied.

It was like an old castle, with stone walls that seemed to be covered with some sort of growth, almost like fungus. It was the cliché villain’s hideout, even having the advanced scientific equipment no mad scientist should be without, though if one called Sinister a mad scientist, he’d probably take it as a compliment.

“Ello… Wait, why do I feel like I jus got hit with a fawty foot?”

“That was the accident, George… I made it all better…”

“Oh… Fanx… Boss?”

“Yesssss… That would be me… You remember me, don’t you GEORGE…”

“Yeah…”
