JewelsAll Blood have Craft, but it is their Jewels that determine the strength and reservoir of their power. These Jewels can be cut or uncut. Cut Jewels are those that have been used before by another Blood who lived long before the current owner of the Jewels. An uncut Jewel is one that has never been used and thus are more powerful because they have not been bonded a previous owner. Once the Blood come of age they can make an Offering to the Darkness, in which they can descend to a Jewel three levels darker then the one they received at their Birthright Ceremony. Darker Jewels allow Blood to perform stronger and more potent Craft and also hold a deeper reservoir of power for one to tap into.
Birthright Ceremony: A time of great joy when a Blood child receives their Birthright Jewel and is officially recognized in Blood society. The ceremony usually occurs at the age seven is performed at an altar by Priestess while the child's family and friends watch and witness the moment. This time can also be a bit tense as well, since this is also the time when a child's paternity is recognized or denied by the mother. To deny paternity is also to deny a male the right and pleasure of being around his children, as well as making a child a bastard although not all women consider this aspect when they deny paternity to get back at a male.
Offering to the Darkness Ceremony: Unlike the Birthright Ceremony, making an Offering to the Darkness is done alone; this is because an Offering is a personal journey as a Blood female or male takes the final step in obtaining their adult power. While the family may wait and keep vigil, they are not allowed to be at the altar. The Ceremony lasts from sunset to sunrise.
