One problem in taking photos of nice food in a restaurant is there will be a lot of curious eyes locking on you. How you guys overcome that?
For me I'll just try to snapshot as quick as possible.
dxtaz - February 15, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
i'll just ignore them... if they asked then i tell them i just wanna take the best of the food as remembrance.. n tell them that i'm into photography as well... n thinks their food worth some shots... hhehee

Izso
the rice is yellowish a bit,my wife add in some dark soya sauce and light soya sauce. This is not white rice, this is fried rice. Btw when take photo shot, i always makesure whatever capture is the same as what our naked eyes see, no special effect, ajinomoto or colouring is added to the picture by using software like Adobe Photoshop etc. :)
izso - July 9, 2007 07:38 AM (GMT)
What I meant was why does the rice and all look bluish? The food looks good to eat that's for sure but the rice looks bluish.
Tohsan - July 9, 2007 08:09 AM (GMT)
oic donno wor, maybe the reflection of color from the plate. :)
Jellyikan - July 9, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
based on the traits, definately not reflection from the plate (coincidentally the plate is also blue), toshan.
As i can see you are usingMacro mode with your dimage Z20, everything else is set to auto, including white balance.
it cant be the reflections from the blue plate because of 1 thing: the overblown parts are either blue or orange. so the conclusion is that the camera measures the white balance wrongly :)
Technically explained, because of the nature of how "white balance" works, the camera cannot detect sufficient greys (18% black) nor pure whites and blacks to accurately judge how the colour should turn up. some incoporates extra sensors to measure the lights if im not mistaken. normally, that should be the basis of how any camera determines the accuracy of the colours.
each camera brand or model has its own white balance algorithm to determine how the colours should turn up, the algorithms are propietery, thus secretive as well.
perhaps when you flashed on the fried rice like the kam heong chicken, the white balance will be more accurate bcos the camera uses flash ambient light to judge the white balance.... but then.... the rice will not look so well :)

does it look closer to natural? (removed some magenta casts) :)
izso - July 9, 2007 10:40 PM (GMT)
ya..that looks better but there's still some traces here and there. But better. So it's the camera's interpretation of the white balance
