Envy Dias Journal Entry:

"I forget what year it was, as I was very young when the world changed. From what I understand, and from what I have found out over the years from abandoned newspapers., is that a contagion had been released by a terrorist. This contagion was researched for some time as people died one after another. The affected area also spread and it was finally determined that it would not stop spreading.

One by one charter crafts were loaded with people and sent into space, but only after they were sure these people were free of the contagion. Eventually, it was my families turn to board the ship. They boarded, making sure they had everything they would need for their new home. In the chaos however, the forgot one thing. Me.

I was tormented with the fact that I had been left behind on a world alone, betrayed by my family. But as I grew I came to realize that I was left behind on purpose. I had been infected with the contagion. My parents and the others had left me for dead with the other infected. While I watched the other around me died in agony, I remained alive. I pleaded for my life to be taken away, but my plea fell on deaf ears.

Years passed and I had become accustomed to living on my own, without so much as a dog to keep me company. I had not seen another living soul in over ten years. Then I reached what used to be Manhattan Island. I wandered the streets in search of food, I could feel like there was something else there. Something watching me. Occasionally, I would see shadows out of the corner of my eye. I thought these shadows and feelings were my brain playing tricks on me from behind alone for so long. However, later that night I had found that to be far from the truth....

As I lay sleeping, I could hear something coming closer to me. I dismissed the sounds as wind, but the sound came closer and closer. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end as a low guttural growl filled my ears. My instincts took over and I rolled to the side, just as a large clawed hand came crashing down onto my blankets. I jumped to my feet and ran, sparing glances behind me to see some sort of man looking dog giving chase. The creature was extremely quick and I had little chance to get away.

I did managed to get away, but just barely so. The reminder of that night is permanently displayed on the left side of my body in the form of four deep scars. I suppose in normal society, one would want to hide such hideous scars, but those times were gone. There was no one left to show but these new found monsters that stalk the night.
I eventually imagined in my mind that the contagion, instead of killing some people, mutated them. I also half convinced myself they were already there, but went unnoticed to the mass quantities of humans living on earth. Without the humans, these creatures where allowed to roam freely.

Who knows....perhaps they are the ones that released the contagion in the first place. But if I survived, maybe others did too.

Instead of wandering aimlessly as I once did, I now wander with a purpose. To find other survivors."

Chimes rang and echoed through the empty streets. Dust was kicked up by feet pounding on the street surface. Guttural growls and howls also echoed off the crumbling skyscrapers.

Suddenly a women with white hair leaped over a car, followed closely behind by a pack of pitch black dogs with red eyes. As she fell towards the ground she drew a long sword with a large jade attacked to the hilt. She whirled around, letting one of the dogs catch the blade in it's mouth. Baring her teeth, she pushed forward with all her might, slicing the dogs head in half at the jaw hinge level.

Blood spewed out, raining down on her and her surroundings.

Journal Entry:

"I ran into another weird creature today. To be exact, it was a pack of them. They looked much like dogs, but much bigger. I haven't seen a dog since my youth, so I knew these were different. Their fur was thick and as black as a moonless night. Their eyes glowed a fierce red, like freshly spilled blood.

They are aggressive and pursued me with a vengeance. I barely managed to escape they clutches, but I somehow did. I am not sure how.

I have given these beasts a fitting name: Hell Hounds. Perhaps these Hell Hounds are the remnants of man's best friend. They turned into the beasts they are today because of the heart break and betrayal of being left behind by their masters."

The woman continued to swing her blade in a wide arc, catching another lunging hound in the gut, slicing it in half. Unfortunately, she let her focus slip and one of them tackled her, slicing her shoulder with its claws. She cried out as it seared her flesh. She held it's fangs at bay with her sword as it growled at her, trying to rip her throat out. Saliva oozed from its lips, splattering on either side of her head. She looked to the side as she heard a hiss from the ground and noticed the saliva was eating into the pavement. She looked back at the dog in horror and fought back with more effort.

She managed to kicked the dog off of her and looked around. She had already been surrounded. She touched her shoulder lightly and it wound burned the tips of her fingers. She lunged, killing one of the dogs by plunging her sword through its skull. Then they all leaped at her at once.

She lashed out with her sword blindly, while aiming a solid kick towards another. They sent one flying and one to the ground in a heap of blood. She ducked under the other ones, still flying through the air at her.

Knowing she was greatly out numbered, she began to run. She also knew the hounds were swift and agile, having greater abilities than she did. She spotted manhole partially uncovered and lipped through the opening, quickly muscling the cover the rest of the way over the opening. Immediately the hounds were upon in slashing at it with guttural growls and barks.

The woman slid the res of the way down the hole and her feet touched a thin ledge of concrete. However, she was now blinded by darkness and knew not what lurked in the tunnels. She began to walk slowly, with her hand on the wall, hoping that she might find a way out that was much further away from the persistent hounds.

Journal Entry

"I escaped another pack of Hounds today. Since I have become aware of their presence, I am more wary of my surroundings. I escaped through an old sewage tunnel, in which I spent many days looking for an exit. I finally found one and was glad to see the sun was high in the sky. I was filthy when I emerged, and the wound on my shoulder burned fiercely, as it still does. Though the burning has spread through my entire arm now and the wound itself looks infected. I suspect within a few more days the burning will have penetrated my entire body. I have survived and infected wouldn't before, but this one seems different somehow. I hope I do not perish before meeting another human being that is still here and alive as I am now. I grow weary of seeing nothing but human skeletons."
