First of all, I want to welcome you to Nouveau Steam. I am glad to see that you are interested in this role-playing game. But where to start? There seems to be so much here, you may feel a little overwhelmed. That's alright; this is why this guide is here!
READ THE RULES AND REGULATIONS! These rules are important in order to keep things under control. Some of the rules may seem harsh, but don’t let them scare you away. If you are confused by one of the rules, or have any questions about them, don’t be afraid to send me a PM.
Once you have read the rules and regulations, start reading the pinned topics in each realm. These can help you to make a character. It would also be a good idea to read the Game Information. This has important information in it such as things regarding the plot, the setting, races, classes, etc. It may seem like a lot to read, but it’s a must for each player if they want to understand the world properly.
Once you have read all the information, it would be a good idea to hop over to the OOC Board and say hello to your fellow members. Introduce yourself, ask to see if anyone needs a character to join them, or ask people to team up with the character you have in mind. You can make a character first and then ask around, that’s fine too. If you are having trouble thinking of a character, this is a good place to ask others for help.
Once your character is created, posted in the new characters forum, and then approved by me (The Keeper), you can begin posting! If you are unsure of where to start, go onto the OOC Board and get suggestions. Be sure to skim posts first before asking what all is happening. It’s easier for everyone if you just read the posts, and then ask to clarify certain things, because it can be a pain to have certain individuals basically retype whatever is posted.
Now that you are ready to post, here are some posting tips for you:
- DON’T use chatspeak! This is not a chatboard. (EX: UR, 4 me, u, l8r, GL, lol, ph34r, etc.) Using chat speak is ok on the shoutbox, but please dont actually post any of it. However, 'lol' is pretty much okay OOC. Use your best judgement which would be good to use and not to use.
- Use proper english. This includes using capitals at the biggining of a sentence, using correct grammar, and the sprinkling punctiation were needed.
- Post in the third person. Dont post for your character as 'I' or 'me'. First person is okay for reading a letter, for when your character is writing in their journal, etc. Just be sure to get that point across someway.
(Examples:
WRONG: I started my day by going down to the tavern and getting a drink. Once there, I found that my good buddy was already there waiting for me.
RIGHT: John started his day by going down to the tavern and getting a drink. Once there, he found that his good buddy was already there waiting for him.
Letter or Journal example:
Jane opened her desk drawer and pulled out her journal. She set it on the desk in front of her, then opened it up. Grabbing a quill, she expertly dipped it into the ink well next to her hand and began to write.

Today was a good day. I was able to sleep well and the morning was bright and clear. While I was at the market today, I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Prince as he and his convoy passed through town....")
