--- FROM THE LADY.
the two posts found within this forum are the most important when it comes to joining vrede academy. please make sure you read both the rules and the plot thoroughly so that you know what we're doing here and for you know how we run things around here. trust us, it'll make your life a whole lot easier if you read them both carefully. you wouldn't want to skim over them and then just have to come back and scour for later purposes, now would you?

--- ANNOUNCEMENTS.
this is basically the forum where the admin can keep you updated on things going on around the site, whether it's about a new site wide event going on, a poll about future events and such, or even an activity check. if something is posted here, you can assume it's important and definitely a must read. most of them usually require some response on your part, and you never know if it's something that needs action to prevent your character from being deleted!

--- PERSONALS.
all character plotting and shipping belongs in this forum, in either the shipping debate or your individual plot pages. this is pretty much where you can show off your awesome coding and equally amazing graphics, all while putting the pieces of your characters relationships, friends, relatives, or whatever together. create conflict, meet your best friend, or find the one your character has been waiting to fall from the sky their entire lives. just keep everything nice, because drama between the writers is just not as much fun as the fictional people, am i right?

--- GOSSIP GUIDE.
the gossip guide is a staple of student life at vrede. it's published on whims, but nobody really knows who puts it out. issues appear without warning, ghost written, and usually with a fair share of embarrassing information within its pages. regardless of the fact that you never know who will be attacked next, you better get your hands on a copy before you're totally out of the know. the elders regard the rag as morally corrupt and against school values, but without a source of publication and without damage being done, little action has been taken to stop it.

--- ORGANIZATIONS.
vrede is home to a multitude of different clubs and organizations. most are school sponsored, like student government and things like gobstones and chess club, but there are some that run much more under the radar, such as the much rumored prat pack that has been around for generations. students are welcome to sign up for any of the clubs and if none suit their fancy, vrede welcomes the creation of new organizations. there's a sign up within for new clubs. if you do decide to join a club already in existence or have been appointed to one by the school, don't forget to grab the button and stick it in your sig to show off all your snazzy memberships.

--- NOTE WRITING.
it may be 2009 in the world, but vrede has a strict policy against muggle technology within its gates. cell phones, computers, and the like are strictly forbidden at school. but teenagers will be teenagers and getting messages to one another seems to be a past time. notes can be written here and passed along to fellow classmates or anyone else you may need to speak with. owls are used for communication outside of school grounds. just be sure to not get caught if you're sneaking notes during class. you wouldn't want to suffer the embarrassment of it being read aloud by a professor. don't let them fall into the wrong hands either.

--- TOVENAAR CASTLE.
this castle is home to the tovenaar students at vrede. the building, made of stone bricks and built in a multitude of cylindrical towers, overlooks helder lake to the right and schoon valley to the left. boy's and girl's dorms are on either side of the top floor and the main stairs from the entrance on the lower level bring you to the common room. it's been rumored that tovenaar castle has a secret passage into the closest town, but that's never been confirmed by anyone, so the secret remains as such. the entrance requires a password so make sure you have it!

--- NAASTE PALACE.
this building is constructed of straight lines and angles. there is an array of tunnels leading to the main three-story building with views of both the mountains and forest. this cobblestone palace is truly a piece of history, being one of the oldest buildings at vrede. most of the others have had upgrades, but naaste is all original. make sure you have the proper password to get in.

--- AARDEN HAVEN.
aarden's are known for their atunement with the environment and this haven is the perfect place to call home. it consists of a maze of warmly painted buildings ranging in size and structure. as an added bonus the views of the blooming valley and whispering forest create a relaxing atmosphere. disturbing this peaceful environment probably won't get you very far with the aardens, so make sure you have the proper passwords in order to gain access to this eden.

--- AALT REALM.
most likely the gem of vrede academy, the aalt's home is a miniature castle constructed of warm brick. on each corner of the building there is an elegant tower, perfect for embracing the beautiful surrounding. the realm sits like an island on the serene lake and to the right they are encompassed in the embrace of the steil mountains. a flood five years ago required a massive upgrade to the interior, but it has once again been returned to its former glory.

--- TEMPLES OF LEARNING.
all of the house structures at vrede converge to this spot - a vast commons left out to the open air. classrooms are separated merely by decaying rubble and have a much more relaxed and peaceful feel to them as opposed to the typical classroom style of teaching. in order to allow for some semblance classroom environment, charms are in place to mute the voices of other classes and keep distractions away. in order to protect from the rain, an invisible shield floats overhead.

--- THE DINING TERRACE.
located between tovenaar castle and aalt realm, one only needs merely to cross a bridge from the center courtyard to step onto the floating dining terrace. this large platform holds hundreds of small tables seating roughly six each. there is no separation here, to allow for unity among the four houses. students dine by candlelight and stars above in the evening and bright sunshine during daylight. the terrace is also protected by the elements with invisible wards. the area is often transformed in order to be used for balls and other events.

--- THE BATHS.
on either side of the commons there is a winding staircase, leading to an area beneath the temple of learning. only earth and magic keep the ground from collapsing inward. a breeze drifts through the series of underground waterfalls and man-made pools. perfect for a romantic evening or an escape from reality. just don't get caught after hours. the baths are open to all.

--- RUINED HALLWAYS.
some of the narrow passageways lead in and out of used classrooms. others lead to abandoned grounds and crumbled ledges. these halls are the perfect place to hide among the ruined walls. late night dealings are common among these area that seem to go unnoticed by those in charge. some think they turn a blind eye to the ruins, others think it to be the work of charms put up by students long gone from vrede. whichever it is, many a private meeting have been held here.

--- ABANDONED CLASSROOM.
why this one room was abandoned when others ruins are still being used today, no one quite knows. but past alumni swear they hear whispers late at night and if you're very careful, this room is perfect for night time wanderings. it's also said the same charms that disguise the usused hallways work their magic on this area of vrede. you wouldn't want to get caught if the rumors aren't true though, so exercise great caution when roaming here.

--- PROFESSOR'S LOUNGE.
this oasis away from students is perhaps one of the only places on campus that has restricted access. students are strictly forbidden from this plush lounge, filled with armchairs, couches, and a lovely assortment of supplies that any professor would find helpful in their quest to relax. meetings occur here as well, though most often you'll find teachers grading papers, catching some shut eye between classes, or simply socializing without concern of students overhearing.

--- THE OWLERY.
located in the foothills of the mountains, this steep tower is home to an array of winged creatures. school owls reside here year round and student owls are housed here during the school year as well. some find this bird home to be a private place to meet with other student's and it is also a perfect location to recieve and send the latest post, but be wary - that top step is a little loose.

--- THE SCHEMER FOREST.
this mystical expanse of trees and bushes is home to varying degrees of wildlife. students are invited to travel the paths of schemer, for boundries do nothing but create animosity. the faeries are always intrested in a chat. though, officially, the lamia - vampires who have a liking for young children - are said to be extinct, rumors still attest to their presence, so beware.

--- THE HELDER LAKE.
if the baths are a bit full, the lake is a lovely place for a swim. on hot summer days, students will jump from the dining terrace into the cool water. each spring there is a traditional game of water tag, so catch up on your swimming lessons. but if things begin to heat up, get out fast, it may be the levithan - dragon of the sea - looking for lunch. it's been rumored that the levithan has eaten students alive, but nobody is willing to stay close enough to find out. merpeople have also been spotted in the lake, though most live too deep to be seen on a regular basis.

--- THE STEIL MOUNTAINS.
these mountains are steep and rocky, but if you are gifted with athletic ability, one may be able to make the climb. steil extends far beyond the line of sight. even from the owlery no horizon is visible. don't be frightened if you run across a firedrake, they are often mistaken for red baby dragons, but they are not nearly as intelligent or as powerful as those they impersonate. the foothills of these expansive mountains are the most commonly visited area.

--- THE SCHOON VALLEY.
the schoon valley is easily one of the most beautiful places at vrede academy. the endless field of blooming flowers and enticing scent leave any student wishing to stay there longer. plus, it's always great fun to try and chase a menehune. the little men love to try and entice the students by hiding in their burrows just as you're about to catch them. a fire ripped through the valley several years ago in the uprising of torreo and the occasional charred tree branch can be still be stumbled upon, but the area flourished rather quickly back to its former beauty.

--- QUIDDITCH PITCH.
a recent addition to student life at vrede, quidditch is the sport that's taken the magical world by storm. deemed too competitive a sport for years by the elders, a movement from students across several houses resulted in a pitch being constructed and teams formed for every house. to keep a peaceful environment, there's no cup to be won, but matches do take place on the weekends. so come out and show your support, and make sure to avoid any stray bludgers!

--- STAFF HOUSING.
homes for the staff of vrede academy are few and far between and mostly inconspicuous from view, but ask any professor for directions and they should be more than willing to assist in finding what you desire. each house stands alone in a locations of their choosing. there are no offices at vrede, so if you need a bit of tutelage just knock on the front door.

the village just past the grounds of vrede academy is nearly as historic as the school itself. like any place in the wizarding world, the village has its quaint areas and its seedy slums. whether looking for a quiet restaurant, a botique, a quaint pub or a strip club - the village is the place to find it.
