By registering at Variety Villa, you agree to obey the following rules:


Section A: Spam
Whether your post is advertising, off-topic, without substance, generally incomprehensible, or for the sole purpose of increasing your post count, it is considered spam, and is not allowed here.


Section B: Minor Offenses
These are not allowed, but the consequences are very minor:

Consecutive Posting – That is, posting two or more times in a row in the same topic, except for pinned topics.

Rent-a-mod – That is, to act as a staff member when you clearly aren’t. This consists of warning other members for not following the rules, deciding where a topic should go, and so forth. Rent-a-modding is considered to be disrespectful toward the staff in a minor way.

Horizontal Scrollbars – That is, posting a very long line of text without spaces. This can trigger a horizontal scrollbar.

Image Size Limits – Very large images in file size or images that take up most of the screen or more are not allowed due to the potential for horizontal scrollbars and long loading times.


Section C: Topics
These topics are not allowed, and the consequences range from none to major, depending on the circumstances:

Misplaced Topics – When creating a topic, pay special attention to the forum you choose to start it in.

Repeat Topics – That is, starting a topic that was already created recently

Inappropriate Topics – Topics whose main purpose is to violate any of the rules found in any of the other sections of the rules.

Promotion Request Topics – A topic created with the sole purpose of asking for a member group promotion (for example: member to moderator).


Section D: Inappropriate Comments

The offenses below are taken very seriously, and breaking these rules only a few times (sometimes only once) can be enough to get you banned:

Flaming – That is, name calling, directing profanity at another member, and most generally any obvious hostility toward another member. More importantly, if someone flames you, don’t flame them back!

Trolling – This is a minor form of flaming. It consists mostly of comments that make another member feel unwelcome. Trolling also can be used as flamebaiting, which is trying to get the person to flame back. If that's your intention, don't post it! Stalking a member is also considered trolling.

Bigotry - Racist posts, anti-semitic posts, anti-gay posts, and any other comments that troll or flame a whole group of people is not allowed.

Disrespecting Staff - If a staff member makes a decision, do not argue about it in the topic or even in a new one. If you discuss such a decision in Board Suggestions, please do so in a civilized manner. Disrespecting staff also includes direct and intentional disobeying of something a staff member says.


Section E: Illegal, Copyrighted, and Inappropriate Material

Posting illegal material can get this site shut down, so breaking these rules are considered some of the most serious offenses, often resulting in an immediate ban!

Copyrighted Material/Pornography/ROMs/etc. – By either posting a link to any of these or asking for them, you are in violation. Posting any form of pornography can get you banned the moment it is noticed by the staff.

M-rated material – This includes excessive gore, excessive sexual content, and excessive profanity. We do not wish to have them here.


Section F: Board Features

PMs – All rules apply to PMs. Also, PMing a person with content that breaks the rules in the Inappropriate Comments section is considered harassment. If you are the victim of this, report it to a staff member. We can't read PMs you don't report!

Signature – All rules apply to your signature, except for advertising.

Multiple Accounts - Unless two or more people use the same computer, don't register multiple accounts! If you are found to have circumvented a ban, your IP will be banned.


Section G: Notes on Clubs

Club owners have the right to create their own rules. Such rules are stated in a pinned topic in their club forum. Keep in mind that these rules must be followed in addition to the board rules. If no club rules are stated for a club, then it is assumed that you follow the main board rules.


Section H: Consequences

Each time you break a rule, it is recorded for the entire staff to see. Once you've accumulated a decent amount of warnings, you will be warned by PM to improve your posting habits and to stop breaking rules. If you accumulate another violation after that PM, a ban will follow. Bans work as follows:
1st ban: 3 days
2nd ban: 14 days
3rd ban: Permanent

Keep in mind that some offenses are major enough to skip parts of this procedure, as specifically stated under certain rules, such as multiple accounts and pornography. If we can clearly see that you have no regard for the rules whatsoever and spam and flame despite warnings, you can easily get a permanent ban without any prior bans.


Section I: Legal Stuff

A. We reserve the right to censor posts, topics, and polls.
-1. This is NOT an infringement of the First Amendment.
--a. The U.S. Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..."
---1. We are not Congress.
---2. VV is privately owned, therefore you must abide by our rules.
-2. We do, however, censor posts to ensure that they do not break U.S. Laws.

B. We do not censor posts dealing with age, gender, race, religion, political affiliation, or nationality unless it breaks other rules.

C. We are not biased in our decisions to promote, demote, ban, or unban base on age, gender, race, religion, political affiliation, or nationality.
