Bear Rank Meanings
Currently, the bears are located at Ursa Minor, and therefore are all grouped together in the park by the headquarters -read the plot pages for more information-. So at the moment, there is only one clan, without a name, lead by Ingo. Once the bears are moved to Ursa Major, there will be space for more clans.
High Ranks
Primoris - meaning 'first', these bears are just that - first. They come first, and what they says goes. The entire clan answers to them. The primoris are a pair, usually but not necessarily mates.
Secundus - The Secundus literally means 'second'. These bears, again, are a pair usually but not necessarily mates. They are in seond position, and answer only to the Primoris.
Tertius - Guess what 'tertius' means? Yes, 'third'. This pair -again, not necessarily but usually mates- is third in command, answering only to the Secundus and the Primoris. Sometimes they are made to do the 'dirty work' for the Primoris, and sometimes for the Secundus, if the Secundus can do it quietly -the Primoris might get angry-. But don't get this wrong - to be the Teritus is to be respected by the Lower Ranks. However, being the 'lowest High Rank', the Tertius is not necessarily respected by other High Ranks.
Low Ranks
Magister - 'Magister' means 'teacher', and that is what the Magisters are. THey are unlimited, and are usually but not necessarily elders. They are very wise, and are called upon by the entire clan for advice. Though they are not quite a high rank, they are still much respected, even by the Primoris.
Venator - 'Venator' means 'hunter'. Therefore, I hope you can guess that the Venators are the lead hunters. They organise clan hunts with the Primoris' permission, and excel in the field of hunting prey. They are generally equal to the Bellator pair. Both are not needed very often, for clan hunts and battles don't exactly take place every day. However, both are respected by the lower-ranked. The Venators are a pair, not necessarily but usually mates.
Bellator - As you may have guessed above, 'bellator' means 'warrior, and therefore the Bellators are the lead warriors. They organise the fighting during battles, with the assistance of the Primoris or other high-ranked. Once more, this rank is a pair, not necessarily but usually mates.
Presidium - Related to the Bellators, the Presidium are the lead guards. During battle, they guard the cubs, and occasionally the higher ranked, though usually one higher ranked pair will go into battle as representatives. However, sometimes if another clan is intent upon conquering another territory, the Primoris will go under the protection of the Presidium and the Praeses. You guessed it - the Presidium are a pair, usually but not necessarily mates.
Explorator - The Explorators are four bears, two males and two females -sometimes they are mated, but not necessarily-. Basically, Explorators are scouts. If there are rumors of battle, or if there is any need of doing so, the Explorators will spy at antoher clan's territory -or wherever spying is needed- and report back to the Primoris or Secundus.
Latro - 'Latro' also means 'hunter', but I thought Venator was more impressive-sounding for the lead hunters. There can be any amount of Latro, for they are the hunters. They are hunting-savvy, and follow the directions of the Venators during clan hunts. They also help provide food for the clan, under the supervision of the Venators, and especially help the cub-sitters and parents by catching food for cubs whilst cub-sitters and parents watch over the little rascals.
Proeliator - 'Proeliator' means 'warrior', and again I decided the Bellator sounded more impressive for the lead warriors. Therefore, the Proeliators are warriors. They are unlimited, and -most importantly- fighting-savvy. They are supervised and follow the orders of the Bellators.
Praeses - 'Praeses' also means 'guard', but once more, I thought that Presidium sounded more impressive for the lead guards. The Praeses are guards, unlimited, and follow the orders of the Presidium during battle. They stay in the center of their territory -usually the dens-, and help guard cubs or higher ranked members, as mentioned in the description of the Presidium.
Gravida Females/Matris - 'Gravida' means 'pregnant', and 'matris' means 'mother. Therefore this section belongs to those females who are pregnant, or new mothers who are nursing young cubs. THere is a special den for Gravida Females and Matris, and this den is occasionally out-of-bounds to males, occasionally to give the females a rest -males tend to come in uninvited, because they can be concerned for their mate/young's health-, but mostly when a Gravida Female is about to become a Matris.
Cub-Sitter - Cub-Sitters are just that - cub-sitters. They watch over the cubs, and generally help out the parents.
Cub - Cubs are cubs. They romp, tackle, and cause trouble in general. However, they ought to listen to their elders, and learn as much as they can, particularly the cubs of high-ranked bears.
