Version 2 of RainsCloth Mod is ready and reasonably tested. I've used many of the neat tools Sami has added to the modding language to make the interface seem as much like the base game as possible.

Requires Unreal World 3.13-patch 3 or newer to function!

Features:
  • Prepare linen or nettle cloth from the plant through a realistic and balanced multi-step process.
  • Use that cloth along with existing clothing to create linen or nettle clothing of your choice.
  • Re-use old woolen clothing to make new woolen garments of your choice.
  • Cloth is usable as bandages, thread is tying equipment as well.
  • Includes recipes for some easy string (ideal for drying or arrows), hemp rope and bags.
  • No new tools needed. In various steps a club, wooden stake, rock and knife (preferably a small knife) are used.
Directions to use in the game:
  • Harvest your nettles or hemp. Do not thresh them as this makes leaves and seed.
  • Soak them in water (it helps to do this near a river/pond/lake)
  • They will soak and rot for 14 days.
  • Take the Retted materials and "extract fibre". You will need a club and will lose half the weight. The mod will track what kind of fibre it is (nettle vs hemp)
  • The fibres can be used to spin thread using a wooden stake (distaff) and rock (spindle). The mod will track what kind of thread it is (nettle vs hemp)
  • Do NOT mix plant types in either of these stages or the label will be wrong and all materials used will be totally wasted!
  • Having two slender trunks and two ropes on the ground next to you, you can then weave the thread in cloth of the right type using a backstrap loom.
  • With the help of a knife and ample tying equipment (rope, thread, string, cord) you can then tailor new linen or nettle clothes out of the cloth or old garments.

Very VERY clever smile.gif I was thinking about it and I really like this way. Also making Hemp cloth a bandage did not come to my mind before.

Like it.

Just one question: Why is the Nettle Apron entry duplicated?

Bad editing...I'll remove the extra. At the last minute I had decided to make it a bit easier (1 less tying) since it is such a simple item.

Added on a bag recipe since it seemed to fit. Forgot it in the release since that item was already part of my basic diy.

Talking about Bag I found that you can pour water into bag what brought me to make this recipe:

.Small barrel. "Bag" *CARPENTRY* /200/
{Board} (16) [remove]
{Tying equipment} (4) [remove]
{Tallow} #3.25# [remove]

I use it to store my soup and stew smile.gif

EDIT: corrected barrel smile.gif thanks for it Makute |:)

After an unsuccesful search of barell on both Google and Wikipedia, I think you misspelled barrel.

Using the new additions Sami is adding to modding Version 2 is going to go something like this:
  • Two actions (one for hemp, one for nettle) to soak the material and leave it out to rot for 2-3 weeks. Will be fast and [patch:10] so you can do a whole harvest easily and in a single afternoon.
  • A single unified command to process the retted material into fibers using only a flail or club as a tool to break it up. The Heckling Comb might come back when we can create new objects.
  • Those fibers can be used to make string (cords, but would make a good bowstring too) and ropes. [patch:5]. A great way to make all those tying implements for storing meat.
  • One action to spin either material into thread using a single tool.
  • 2 separate actions to weave linen (hemp) or nettle cloth. They will also be [patch] to save on key press tedium.
  • A full menu of nettle clothing that can be made from only nettle cloth (including other nettle clothing) + some tying.
  • A full menu of linen made the same way.
  • A full menu of WOOL clothes that can be made only from other wool clothes.
  • A handful of extra objects like bags from any cloth etc.
Tools needed will be limited to:
  • Either a flail <grain-flail> or a club to break up the fibers. Might require a stone on the ground.
  • A custom Spindle & Distaff "staff" (rock + slender trunk)
  • A knife <small knife> for the clothing.
  • Either a made Strap Loom "Board" (made from a leather strap, 2 ropes, 2 wooden stakes and some thread) or just having two slender trunks and 2 ropes in inventory. The Loom is problematic. Backstrap looms are easier to simulate and portable, but not very regionally correct as far as I know. Eventually I'd like to have something like a constructed warp-weighted loom.
Advantages over Version 1:
  • Both plants can be made into clothing without a lot of duplicated actions. Other than making the actual clothes, only two steps (retting and weaving) have separate entries for both hemp and nettle.
  • You can rework wool items you don't need or that are worn out into useful, new pieces.
  • ONLY the right materials can be used to make the clothing. No more making a cloth shirt out of a fur cloak.
  • Simplified Tools needed. That might change when we can define custom objects and I can make a tool that isn't also something else or is in fact firewood.
Thoughts?

URW Version 3.13.p2 Required

For those not quite willing to wait for the full version, here is the teaser:

Fully functional and balanced for utility/ease of creation make menus for all nettle, linen and woollen clothing items that can be made from clothing of the same type.

With a litle loss of material, time, a (small) knife, and some tying equipment you can take that pile of rags and tailor a new suit of your liking. Again, items that were exceptional for their weight (undergarments, dresses, veils etc) take more time and tying equipment. Wool clothes in general also take more time and material since they weigh more.

In the final I expect to condense the two into 2 menus (wool plus linen & nettle) along with a single menu for the processing of the raw materials, along with a "light" version that crams it all into one or two menus (minus some of the less useful or redundant clothing) for those wanting to avoid clutter.

A reply, which is totally out of topic, and which emerged becauseI didn't read the title correctly (I thought that it was dealing with rain coats) :
Is it actually possible to get wet in the game ? Does walking under the rain change anything once the sun shines again ?

sorry flap, personally not sure.... walking under rain can make you 'drenched' from memory, which probably effects to your encumbrance and mobility, and also makes you colder and therefore more prone to cold related injuries (frostbite, ect) but don't quote me... been a while since i've been frostbitten smile.gif

what i really wanted to add was... despite being unable to find many references, there was wool in iron age finland, and there were sheep... sami, help us make animals and help us gather resources from them... after fauna it's the only thing missing!! help rain get his wool on, and let us extract wool from sheep...

actually, that might even work as a cooking recipe. you get "wool" as long as there's a "sheep" on the ground next to you... along with the right tools... damn... stupid exams...

to be explored later... XD
