Every now and then people mention the "old-fashioned" way of using digitalised photos in UrW. But where are those photos from?
Yes, most of them are taken just for the game, and feature Sami and his close friends. Then there is a set of pictures I took in an epic larp session back in the 1999's (or was it 1998, can't remember for sure.) It was about -30 celcius below freezing, and the game took place outdoors. We only had a small cottage wihtout chimney - there was a camp-fire inside the building, and when people felt cold they went indoors, packed next to the fire trying to keep their heads under the smoke... I was part of the organizing team, I wrote the background information for the larp. And I asked permission to use the pictures in a share-ware game... I really don't know if some of those people remember the whole thing, or even know that their portraits are still used in the game. And just for the sake of the curiosity; one of the writing team in that larp was Timo Vuorensola, whom later became rather famous for directing the movie Star Wreck. Unluckily enough there is no picture about young Timo Vuorensola larping iron age =) But at least one of the female characters is also acting a role in the Star Wreck. Oh those were the days Altough, I also like very much these days we have today. |

I really like the in-game pictures, very well done in terms of authenticity. It's just a shame that the picture quality isn't the best. How old are the pictures made specifically for the game? If they're as old as the larp, I guess it's no wonder. Digital camera back then were a bit of a joke

The pictures in the larp were taken with a "non-digital camera", and the paper prints were digitalized to be used in the game.
Actually, I have lost track on the most of the pictures taken just for the game. They date back to different times, and I don't remember that what kind of camera equipment was used. |

Ah okay, I just assumed scanning analogue pictures would result in an even worse quality.
Well, with most of them it's not really a problem since we never see them in any large dimensions, bu urwstar2.jpg (the main menu image) looks rather low-res, though.. It's a shame, the subject is great otherwise. *dreams of becoming an URW photographer* |

Seems to me you could make a contest out of getting your very own picture into Urw. Maybe not 'of you' but of something anyway. It would be interesting.

Yup, at some point we are going to discuss different ways of getting more pictures.
Ah, and in case names "Timo Vuorensola" or "Star Wreck" didn't say anything, check this: Space Nazis are coming! |

A photo contest would be wonderful! I really like the photos that are in the game (I always wonder which are Sami) but new photos may be necessary, for instance for the new Herblore skill. I know next to nothing about photography, but what URW player doesn't want to go out in the woods with some iron age tools and snap pictures?
...okay well there's a few, probably. But if Sami ever needs new photos, I'm sure many players would be eager to provide. |

I am one of them for sure. I gotta grab my tunic, coat and njarpezit scimitar and voila!
I collect some pictures which were being shot solely for URW purpose. I confess I have done a sacrilege, and exchanged some of the original pics in URW for my own (like forest view, mountains etc.) Some of them are quite ok, I would date to say. So - should there be need for some new photos, just let me know! |
