Let's share some more of those funny, heartbreaking etc. deaths!

Here's a start: Drax Driikiläinen was attacked by a band of Njerpezit on one of his adventures on the 1st of November. He woke up, not remembering where his home was from a heavy blow to his head, and was rather hurt, helpless and afraid from the incident, for he only had a hunting knife and a few pieces of clothing mainly from wool and linen. It took him a few minutes to realise he had no food and he was about to freeze. He cut out pieces of his clothing to treat the wounds, which turned out not to be tragic, but they were a real hindrance. A little fishing showed that fishing with 28% was a futile attempt, so he started searching for a village, or a wandering adventurer (ask directions, then kill if needed). Eventually he got too hungry though, so it was lucky he found a herd of forest reindeer. There was a problem though... nightfall rendered all other squares except the current one invisible, so Drax was rather terrified when he heard an angry bawl, but it was too late - a reindeer, presumably with infravision goggles, rushed at him and antlered him to near-death - he fell unconscious at 97%.

Drax eventually woke up and crawled to a nearby lake, where - after destroying his linen trousers for 4 more bandages, treating among others a fracture - he found some Tellervo's gifts. The other character of mine, Sven Reemiläinen, ate a lot of those boiled, but it turned out that they were much nastier raw - gave a nasty poisoning to Drax. Good thing he waited until next morning to eat them, or the poison would have killed him outright! It did get much worse during the next few days, although he dropped all other mushrooms immediately - he got to precisely 99% injury by evening, then the condition of the disease worsened dramatically. Thankfully it didn't kill him and after recovering from it - getting back to 28% injury in exchange for 49% starvation - he decided to resume looking for a village. After finding a squirrel, who helped little with starvation issues, he sighted a village! Circling it, though, it turned out the settlement was on an island. Idiot Kaumolainen... Drax decided to take his chances and swim, after taking off and hiding his clothes and squirrel-skin, but after about 10 meters, he passed out and drowned.

One of my first actually successful characters died when my computer lagged and moved him into a spiked trap pit.
I stared at the screen for a full minute, then started swearing.

One of my longest lasting characters ended up drowning as well. I'd been shooting some arrows after a grouse as it flew away over the lake. Not thinking much of it I waded out into the water to retrieve my arrows. I should have dropped my gear and taken off my armor, but they weren't far out and I thought I could make it. I didn't even get to the first one before I found myself in too deep and in trouble. Probably still could have saved myself at that point by tossing some of my heavy equipment back onto the shore, but a few panicky key presses as my head kept slipping underwater, and it was all over.

I wouldn't have minded so much except that he had survived so long already. Didn't seem like a very fitting end to his story. But just as in real life, one stupid mistake can kill you. At least I'll think twice before entering the water with future characters.

i still can't get over the injustice of one character's death. back when wives were still possible i thought i'd go for a different change of pace and get my successful character a wife. after much wooing and begging they were finally hitched in her village. my character was over the moon and headed for the honeymoon cottage. on the way he passed the corner of a local shop whose door was right next to the corner my guy was passing. before i knew what had happened i was looking at the "you have died" screen, which told me that i had gotten killed by a bear with one blow to the back of the head! the s.o.b. must have been hiding out inside the shop and i passed that corner with my blind side to the doorway. i didn't even know there was a bear in the town before that! grrr!!!

i've also suffered death by computer lag when i thought i was a step above or below a set pit trap and hit the arrow key one too many times to cross the local map and when the computer caught up to the key strokes i watched my little buddy dive right into the trap and skewer him/herself. oops.

Well, I had a successful character with 100% dodge, and high 80's in bow and sword. He had slaughtered most of a trader group, and had knocked the last one prone. He attacked last trader, which somehow angered his two big dogs that he on leash.

I think you know what happened next.

Also, on another successful character, I upgraded the game version, but forgot to register it. Then I deleted the older version.

That's also self-explanatory.

Today, I "play" the sortest living character anyone can play...

I create it, start "hurt, helpless and afraid", and go directly to the ancestor´s list. My character died for a bloodloss. sad.gif

You mean... you got a bleeding wound straight from the get-go? That's something I've never seen. Did you have a chance to try and treat the wound or were you killed instantly?

My longest lived character was named Losk. He built part of a hut in a northern region. He also lost several rafts and punts... sleep.gif
Anyway, I moved to an archipelago so I can live near the Driik's. All of my priorities were screwed up and I was hoping to get my home done before winter. Three walls left and I hadn't cut the trees for it. It became November and even though my character was completely wearing fur, he got frost over and over and over and over again. I built the hut, but he was too weak for me to make a fireplace (could only hold two stones if he only wears his clothes :s ). He died of frostbit after building a hut with a sleeping bunk and a table. sad.gif
I started him as "I want to be a fisherman."

Here's one short from few year's past. I don't remember the guy's name, but he had gotten pretty far. It was August already, and this man was building his sauna (following the easy course's instructions) by a lake, which was proceeding nicely. He also had several furs and big pile of meat in a cellar for the coming days, when one fateful morning...

My man woke up to the sounds of lone and aggressive Njerpez warrior standing on his yard. He readied his weapon, certain of his victory, thanks to his good skill with knives. The two combatants closed in the distance. My lad swung, missed and the Njerpez took advantage of his blunder. He hit the man square on his forehead, killing him right away.

And another story, much more recent. This man was named Ilkka, and he belonged to the tribe of Islanders. He had just finished his new house, had two nets on the lake, a trapfence 100 meters long (which had gotten already one elk killed to Ilkka's joy). He had plenty of meat lying in his cellar also and was very prepared for the coming winter, when it came to clothes, thanks to that elk.

Then, one day, Ilkka was looking at his store of food. He decided to have blanched mushrooms heh ad prepared earlier today, and took a handful of them. He ate one, noticed a funny sidetaste to them, and ate another, before the ill feeling struck him. It wasn't like the nausea he had gotten a month ago when eating raw meat to keep the starvation away, it was something much worse. He had contracted a fatal poisoning, which slowly but surely eroded his strength away, minute by minute. Hasty trip to the nearby villages in search for the village medicine man did not yield anything useful. The medicine man did his best, but the poison from blanched sand mushrooms was too plentiful and strong. Ilkka was forced to crawl back to his cottage by the lakeside, faced with very grim future. He could only lay in his bed, feeling the deadly poison coursing through his veins and bringing him closer and closer to eventual death.

The next day, he was too weak to move anymore. Ilkka ate the last bit of bread and the last sip of water from his supplies he had by his deathbed. Soon, the will to close his eyes became overwhelming, and he succumbed to it. Soon after, he felt a relieve in misery. The poisoning eased away, and he opened his eyes. He stood up from his bunk, took a step and another. He turned around and saw himself still lying on the bunk. Now he realized whath had come to pass. Ilkka of the Islanders had joined his ancestors and left hte world of living behind him. He had lived 16 years, before leaving his village wanting to be a fisherman. He managed to live 69 days fulfilling his dream.

I never start Hurt, Helpless and Afraid anymore. Ever since I rolled a super good character (crazy luck on stat rolls, everything was really high) and he died before I could do anything I just stopped making them.
