Title: Zoom-in / Zoom-out Postion "your Settlement"
gladius2metal - April 26, 2012 10:23 AM (GMT)
In the beginning I only had a shelter in a region, finally my log house was big enough and the region became my settlement. Yet, the problem is I only got a disadvantage from that "renaming" :(
why?
when I only had a shelter I would zoom out and later zoom in and be on the same tile as before, which usually was right to my tools, stuff and shelter.
Now with my log house, the game automatically zooms in (I can't prevent it from happening) and sets me on a tile far outside of my stuff, log cabin, etc. (not to mention the defense perimeter of deadfall traps etc.). Basically for me that is a waste of time and risk.
It would be great (for me, don't know for other people) if the automatic zoom-in is just removed, because I can also see disadvantages. From a coding perspective this would also prevent the introduction of new bugs, because the mechanism before worked.

And what should happen when a player inadvertantly stumbles onto a nerjpez camp?

Permanent settlements (your own, someone else's, villages, camps) get tagged for automatic zoom-in when you step on their tile. tiles containing shelters are considered temporary camps so don't get the tag. the automatic zoom-in also automatically starts you out at the edge of the tile, even if you've been there before.
It would be nice if the auto-zoom were removed for settlements that you've built yourself - it's sort of like you're going to visit yourself. I would prefer being able to walk past my own yard without dropping in or having to walk around the tile. I also usually have an area that I use most on the edge of the tile (I tend to build on the edge of water) and the auto-zoom-in drops me quite often on the opposite edge of my yard in thick tree growth, which is frustrating.

I meant only player-built settlements not villages, etc. there it is a little bit annoying too, but it makes sense from a gameplay and "reality" perspective.

The weird thing is that I've been dropped right in the middle of settlements before, quite often I end up in animal pens. So it doesn't always drop you at the edge of the tile...

where you're dropped depends on what direction you're facing when you enter the settlement, so try approaching your settlement from all 8 directions to see which direction is the most convenient for you. Then, always approach your settlement from that direction.
