Title: Native Linux Versions - New Builds: 3.14-beta-2
Description: (outdated) download links in this thread

Sami Maaranen - March 14, 2012 07:55 PM (GMT)
Previous native linux packages, released earlier today, suffered from scripting and linkage problems. Here we go with a set of new ones:

Fixed issues:
- skill usage crashes
- wear armour/clothing crashes
- combat crashes
- messages with tags not being parsed correctly
- problems with loading old characters
- tar package also available

IMPORTANT:
Please remove previous native linux versions you might have, and make a competely fresh install.
If you created test characters with previous native linux versions, please don't continue playing them - some corruption may have occurred.
Your good, old characters should be 100% playable.

REPORTING:
You can report any issues concerning linux versions in this thread or by e-mail.
Always mention your distribution.
Let me know:
- if it works perfectly for you
- you find any of the bugs listed above being truly fixed now
- there are crashes, bugs, other problems

OK, this one from the deb-package seems to start fine with my 32 bit Ubuntu 10.04.

installed the package,
created a character,
took of clothes,
wore clothes,
used weatherlore skill

- no crashes this far. More of testing tomorrow.

EDIT:

couldn't resist to test it a bit more.

visited couple of villages,
traded some stuff succesfully
fell down young spruce,
used survival skill to cut branches
started building a shelter
it started well, and kept on working for a while,
until it crashes.

I reloaded my character and tried again,
now it kept on working for the shelter for bit longer,
but crashed again.

Don't know for sure but I guess it crashes the instant the shelter should be ready.

yeah, it crashes when you try to make anything: torches, shelters, bandages, etc. luckily you can still "make" roast pike out of raw pike. i'm having fun, though. i've started in autumn, and i'm trying to see if i can get my character properly equipped with warm clothes just by trading fish i catch. i've already got some fur mittens, though it took almost all my food. i'm not very good at hunting -- chasing animals is hard work, though if an animal drops by i'll give it my best shot, but getting some furs would at least help me trade for some more warm clothes before winter sets in. it's a fun challenge.

edit: successfully killed a squirrel, and tanned its fur

more fun stuff:

I got influenza, but i saw the sage and was better in two days. while ihad influenza, i would wake up freezing. at first, i thought "well, it's august, and it's getting cold (temperature was just slightly into the red), though almost all my armor is green for warmth so whatever" so i lit a fire. still freezing. wake up shivering and all that. severe frostbite on face. I no longer have influenza. So, I've sought out a sauna. I'm sitting in the sauna and these are the messages:

You take some water into the scoop and throw it on the sauna stove.
The sauna stove hisses and hot steam fills the room for a moment.
You are freezing.

I've used the sauna twice ina row and I'm still freezing. :/ Still, I've survived 20 days without making anything or getting bored, so that's something. we'll see how long it takes to freeze to death.

edit: finally warmed up a few days later. guess it was residual effects of the influenza

edit: i can make clothes without it crashing!

edit: can't make a house. segfaults

First off, thanks for such a great game! It appeals to me on such a basic level. I have more to say about this, but that's for another post.

I purchased this game because it has a linux version and would like to help with feedback to make it run smoothly. I am currently running 3.14beta1-2_i386 on Ubuntu 10.10.

Crashed when making a staff from a slender trunk:

*** glibc detected *** /home/tsk/Local/urw/usr/bin/urw-bin: double free or corruption (!prev): 0x25e379e8 ***
======= Backtrace: =========
/lib/libc.so.6(+0x6c501)[0x27a501]
/lib/libc.so.6(+0x6dd70)[0x27bd70]
/lib/libc.so.6(cfree+0x6d)[0x27ee5d]
/lib/libc.so.6(fclose+0x14a)[0x26a81a]

Looks like it cannot open a file and fails to handle the free properly. This is probably due to a file name upper/lower case problem. I doubt that it is a corrupted pointer since the windows version works and porting code from windows is notorious for upper/lower case problems.

Also, I noticed duplicates in the menu for make (M) lumber (L) shows wooden stakes (1) staff (2) wooden stakes (3) and staff (4).
