But the tanned hide is used for making clothes. Are you sure you used the tanning and not the curing command? And are you sure you are making the right type of clothing?

And on that note, I never figured out what curing does for a hide as it then seems unusable for anything else afterwards....

ohhh, i see. Bear hide is considered fur not leather.
for that matter, almost all wild animals have fur, right?

so if i want leather i have to get a pig or bull?

looking at the happily snoring pig inside my fence right now..

Curing is meant to make the raw skin last a little longer.

Leather is from pigs, cows and dogs. Fur is from everything else.

Curing is used in case you want to preserve a hide, but don't have access to tanning materials (fat or peeled bark).

It's an optional intermediate step.

In the wilderness, there are wild boars and sows that give some leather, everything else that has leather gives too little to be worth considering in making clothes.

Yes in the wilderness its true. It is very difficult to make a snake leather shirt...

Though I am trying.... <_<

Wild Sows, Boars, and domestic Cows and Bulls are the best leather providers. ;)
