Several characters seem to be highly underappreciated in the movies, such as Gollum, Elrond, Haldir, and others I cannot think of at the moment. What are your thoughts on this?

I Never like Gollum, but I think they did Faramir seriously wrong, he was Never that way in the movie! and it sort of makes me a little sad becaurse I always saw him as one of the most noble characters in the book, and then they let him be tempted by the ring, that was so wrong. And Eowy was made such a sissy even though in the books she seems so strong and independant. And Elrond seemed so uncaring towards Aragorn, his fosterson, in TTT.

Yeah, I totally agree about all of them, especially Faramir. I really didn't like it how he tried to take the Ring from Frodo, when in the books, he declares that he wouldn't even take it if it were lying on the side of the road. The thing that bothered me about Elrond was that he seemed cold and distant, uncaring about everyone else. He's not like that in the books, where he's kind to others. But I do see why he doesn't want Arwen to marry Aragorn. Eowyn was one of my favourite characters when I first read the books, and she's okay in the movies, except they overemphasized her falling in love with Aragorn.

I aggree with you guys; they really did mess up Faramir. Then again, I really understand what they did what they did; had it been a film stricktly for those who had read and understood the books, I'm sure it would have been different, but because it wasn't changes obviously had to be made. I also thought that they over-did Eowyn's love for Aragorn, but not only that, I think they messed up when the sent Arwen away for a while, if only for the reason of Aragorn seeming to like Eowyn a little bit there in TTT. As I said, I think most of the changes were because they wanted to get attention from those who had not read the books, and it's obvious that they did, yet I can't help but get upset when Faramir tries to take the Ring and everything.

Nothing really bothers me as much as Faramir, though...
