Please remember that topic rules are updated and changed from time to time, and that you should be checking them every so often just in case they have been

Recently the rules to the famous What's Your Mood? topic have been updated.

Members are no longer allowed to use emoticons such as >>;;, :D , or even "..." as moods. We feel that these don't qualify as moods, but are simply representations of virtual facial expressions. Just type out a word, please.

Also, members are no longer allowed to do this for moods:

QUOTE
Mood: Angry
Reason: Personal

If you're angry about something personal and would rather not talk about it, then please, keep it to yourself.

Also, the Disco does have rules. Disco regulars, it wouldn't hurt to read them again and give yourselves a quick refresher.

Thank you.

EDIT: 8/6/06

If you have any questions or complaints about the new rules, rather than PMing Elisa (who will be out of town for the next week) please PM myself, or any of the other mods! We'll try to work out a solution to your complaint the best we can.

Thank you!

Note to those who PM'd me about using smileys: (I'm sorry I don't have time to PM you all back personally, my schedule is tight today)

I understand that those of you who don't have English as a first language may find it difficult to find an accurate word to express your feeling. I am sorry about that, I admit that I didn't consider that fact at the time. However, I still believe that emotes/smilies aren't really moods... Time to break out your English dictionaries and search for a good word! Maybe you'll learn a new one! :) (That said I think everyone here has amazing English skills o.O Well done!)

Anything else on this debate you'll have to take up with the moderators until I return ^^;

Honestly, I think this rule is dumb. I mean since TK started you've been allowed to use moods, why stop it now? I admit yes, there's some members who use some type of smiley as a mood a lot, if not all the time but to say using them at all as a mood is bad is just dumb. Couldn't the rule be don't use a smiley if your posting one mood? I mean like someone as a mood like this

Mood:>>/Thoughtful.
Reason:I hate them all./Wonder what I'll do today.

As long as they have a worded mood with it I don't see the problem. Typing good grammar, I agree because chat speak is annoying but banned smiley from moods? This is a forum, a place on the internet, I don't think everything should be like the real world. But that's just my opinion, so.

Yes i agree with kazaf, as from experience sometimes you have a mood you cant, explain very well, or sometimes you just forget the word to that mood, if you get meh? lol

I'll offer my two cents on the matter.
I believe Elisa recieved a deluge of complaints about this, literally.
Really, it's not so hard to just use a word to convey how you're feeling, so I do not see what the issue is here. Of all the rules invoked here, this is the most miniscule, yet brings up the most discussion...o_O;.

lol...text emotions are annoying only when used in every sentence IMO... but Kazaf's example is fine.

Another dumb rule on TK's behalf. What next.

And I hate to reply to these threads these days but you know....-_-

At least disallow "..." that not even really a mood. It's... a Kai.

Other than that, I don't care much. However, >_> could be annoyed, embarassed, distressed... And ^_^ can be happy, joyful, ecstatic, glad. Also, o_0 could be surprised, shocked, awestruck.

http://thesaurus.reference.com/

I'm feeling pretty :bye: (waving) today. Yeah, pretty waving, cause it's so tough to find good words these days.

How many Mood threads have we gone through anyways? More than 10? Seriously, it isn't that big of a deal having to type words for a change.

">>" could describe many things. Just accept the rules and use your dictionary.

Use this thesaurus then. You might find something useful.

I'm actually suprised people are protesting this so much, when 95% of the "What's Your Mood?" thread just use words instead of emoticons/...'s/whatevers anyways. Is it really so hard to write "happy" instead of "^.^" or "sad" instead of ";;"?

Sure it's quicker, but that's the same thing with chatspeak. Chatspeak and l33t/leet/1337 is disallowed on this forum anyways, isn't it? So why can't you just accept the rule, deal with it, and move on?

Than where is the 'community' if things are made without other opinions? If people are complaining about it than clearly there's a reason. I'm just saying it's a dumb rule to make all of a sudden after it's been allowed since the start of the forum. So because suddenly you guys grown up it's a sin to use a smiley for a mood? This place has enough rules, like a smiley kills anybody. Is it that big of a deal if someone uses one? For a rule to be made it must, so why can't you deal with that and move on? It isn't like it's SPAMming if they add more than just a ^_^ .

But whatever, clearly it's a waste of time so I'll keep quiet now.

Is it that big a deal if someone does not use one and uses a word instead.

The fact is, words can express moods more accurately than emoticons and smilies.

Im Not Protesting myself, in whats your mood i have never used a smiley to describe my emotions, what im saying is but sometimes you dont know what this expression is so you use a smiley, before the rule came out iv thaught before "wait whats this mood called" but because i didnt know it i left it, before the rule came out..for some reason

Btw Thanks Raine i think that will come in handy, maybe it should be added to the first post of a whats your mood topic

As I stated though, is it that big a deal if someone does use one though? That's the thing, you (meaning mods/Elisa) are saying you don't understand why it's such a big deal, and I'm saying I don't understand why it was such a big deal either to make a rule about it. I'm aware words can express moods, I'm just saying it was dumb to make it a rule after all this time or why it matters? This ' ' is the same thing as 'In Love' so why can't both be used? All I mean is I don't see why it's a big deal suddenly if emoticons and smilies are used for mood posts. It's all the same.
