A Vist From Maureen Johnson, Maureen arrives at Buzzline

[Alexi Darling]

Alexi sat there and watched Mark converse with his ex-girlfriend. Maureen had come into the building while they were planning their wedding and now all Alexi really could do was watch her and Mark catch up. Then, Mark finally spoke to her and she silently thanked some unknown force that she was noticed but also cursed that force that Mark had asked that question. What she supposed to say, I am out of place? No, she couldn't say that, she would sound so dramatic and she didn't want to start anything.

"What?" She forced a smile. "No, I'm fine...I was just watching you guys, guess I zoned out or something." Damn it, what was she doing? The only person who could ever tell whether or not she was lying was Mark...he would catch on.

Maureen looked nervously at Alexi. Mark's fiancee seemed pretty uncomfortable, but obviously she couldn't admit it. During the little emotional breakdown she had just been through, she had kind of forgotten that she really wasn't supposed to be here. "Listen, guys, I'm really sorry I just showed up here and dumped all my emotions on you. I should leave you to your...Buzzlining. Or whatever. I won't impose any longer."

Alexi saw Maureen get up and felt relieved but also a bit guilty. She didn't want to drive her out, besides Mark wanted her there.

"No, no, you can stay." She said. She wanted to make an effort with Maureen and all of Mark's friends and she figured she better start now.

Mark looked at Alexi through narrowed eyes. "C'mon...don't lie to me. What's up?" And then it dawned on him: BEYOND awkwardness for her. While he was having a reunion with his friend, Alexi had just sat there, ignored.

When he heard what Maureen had said, he had shook his head, searching for words to say, but they were replaced with Alexi telling the drama queen she could stay. He looked over at his fiancee, surprised. He smiled at her. "Thanks, Alexi." He murmured. Then, he switched his gaze to Maureen. He ushered her over to a chair and sat down on the floor.

Pause.

"So this is fun!" He commented.

[Maureen Johnson]

Maureen snorted. "Yeah, you know how much I love deep, soul-searching, sobfests. I'm soooooo good at getting in touch with my 'inner me'." She wiped away the last of her mascara-filled tears. "So, what's been going on with you guys? I'm done spilling my guts for the day."

[Alexi Darling]

Alexi nodded when Mark thanked her. She also laughed slightly at both Mark and Maureen's comments. Maybe Mark's friends wouldn't hate her after all.

She looked at Mark when Maureen asked what was going on with them, hoping he would give her some way to respond. Would bringing up the wedding make things awkward for her again?

"Oh not much...just the, um, wedding." Once she said those words she felt like she shouldn't have and looked at Mark again for some reassurance.

(OOC: I love this thread, and how it's been going on since like December, I hope it never ends ever....well I mean if it's get old then....you know what I mean)

Mark looked between both women nervously, not knowing which to look at, so settled on his hands. "Um, yeah. Wedding. Oh! Listen to that! SPEAKING of weddings! Hey, Maureen? Do you, and everyone else of course...well, how would you know if anyone else would want to come? I mean you don't live inside their heads or anything so um, yeah, how would you know?" He laughed nervously, almost forgetting what he wanted to ask Maureen. He took a deep breath. "Maybe. And you don't have to. But maybe if you weren't busy that day, would you come to me and Alexi's wedding? Possibly?"

He cleared his throat awkwardly. "I mean, I know that you probably don't wanna go and have somewhere you have to go, but it would really mean a lot if you came and if you would answer that'd be cool because I really should stop talking right about now." He forced his mouth shut and looked up at Maureen.

Maureen chuckled. "Well, I don't know about everyone else, but...I think I can pencil you in." She looked over at Alexi. "I mean, if that's okay with you. But I'm pretty sure I can convince everyone else to come. But you might have to give them a call - I mean, they haven't spoken to you in...God, months, now. I think they'd really appreciate it if you, y'know, actually talked to them."

Alexis felt a rush of relief that Maureen was coming but also she felt nervous. So far, her only real contact with Mark's friends had been with Maureen and it had been awkward to say the least.

"Of course that's okay with me." She told her and knew it was true but it still made her nervous.

"Haha, Maureen you're funny! You know that?" Mark said sarcastically. "Must you torment me? You know I have some sort of unidentified nervous-disorder. And I WILL talk to them...eventually." He said with as much confidence as he could. "Good then! Well...I guess I'll call them...soon? But not now. Because they scare me. Annnnnnnnnd...I'm quite skiddish at the moment." He paused. "God, I can't believe I just said skiddish. Like, I'm not a bird. I'm...Mark." Pause again. "But you both know that so I'll shut my mouth..."

Maureen laughed. "Yes, Mark, we all know that you are, in fact, Mark. Not a bird." She gave her ex an affectionate hug.

"Well, as much as I would like to stay and debate the state of your Markness, I really should go. Roger gets a little freaky when you leave him by himself for hours on end with nothing for entertainment but espresso." She gave Mark a peck on the cheek and shook Alexi's hand. "Good luck with the wedding plans."

Alexi took Maureen's hand in return and shook it. She felt a huge rush of relief, at least one of Mark's friends might like her and might enjoy coming to the wedding.

"Thanks, it was really nice meeting you." She let go and watched her walk out and then looked to her fiancee. "So..."

Mark hugged Maureen back and half-smiled at her. "I'll call you, okay?" He smiled at her as she walked out.

He turned back to Alexi. "So..." He looked at his watch, noticing it had gotten dark out. "It's eight forty-three. Can we go homeeeee?" He whined. "I'm already tired of this place."

"What are you five?" She rolled her eyes at his whining. "But yes we can go home, come on." She grabbed her purse and Mark's hand and they left the building.
