Collins walked out into the February cold, tyring to figure out what he was going to do for the next few hours. Visiting hours weren't until four o'clock, and it was still only ten o'clock. Collins began walking down the street, looking in the shop windows out of boredom. He stopped outside a flower shop, and whacked himself in the head.

"I can't believe I forgot!" He said to no one in particular. He looked around, wondering what he was going to do, then looked back at the window of the flower shop.

Get your loved one a beautiful rose for Valentine's Day! Only $10.99 for a full bouquet of eight! The sign said. Collins racked his brain, trying to think of the perfect gift for his Angel. He pulled out his wallet and counted his money - he had forty dollars.

"Shit, that's not enough!" He moaned. How could he buy what he needed to buy with only forty dollars? He looked at his watch - he had six hours. He set out to find the nearest ATM, determined to gather enough money to get what he was looking for.

He walked down the street, looking for a bank, and grinned when he saw one. He went inside and entered his account number and password into the ATM, then pressed a few buttons to find out how much money he currently had in his account.

"Five hundred dollars... That might be enough to get something... But I can't use all of it," he groaned, tapping his finger on the little desk in front of the screen, trying to figure out what he was going to do. He sighed and pressed a few more buttons, then grabbed an envelope. Money started coming out of the little slot at the bottom of the ATM and Collins gathered it up, stuffing it into the envelope.

"We'll see what I can get with three hundred..." He said, logging out of the ATM and leaving the bank. He walked down the street again, his money clutched tightly in his hand, and kept his eyes peeled for a jeweler. Finally spotting one, he went inside, and waited in line to talk to the clerk.

"Hi, I was wondering if you could help me find something," he said, when it was his turn. The clerk, grey-haired and balding, nodded and smiled.

"Of course. What is it you are looking for?" He said with a slight French accent. Collins began opening the envelope in his hands.

"Actually, I was wondering if it was possible to get an engagement ring... With three hundred dollars?" He said, pulling out a wad of twenty-dollar bills. The clerk frowned.

"An engagement ring. With only three hundred dollars." The clerk repeated, incredulous.

"Yeah, um, do you have anything?" Collins asked, knowing that he probably wouldn't succeed. The clerk stared at him for a moment, and then sighed.

"Stay here, I might have something in the back." He said, before walking into a seperate room. Collins stood in the middle of the store, while people walked by him and stared. He was a sight. Along with his mismatched and dirty clothing, he also still had the giant white cast on his nose.

Finally, the clerk came back, holding a dusty, maroon, velvet box. He opened it to reveal a gold ring, with three small diamonds on it. The gold band was noticably damaged, but the ring was beautiful nonetheless.

"This is all I have that is below seven hundred dollars." The clerk said, thrusting the box into Collins's hand. Collins picked up the ring gently, holding it up to the light.

"It's perfect," he said. "How much?"

"I can give it to you for two-hundred eighty." The clerk replied. Collins put the ring back in the box and stuck it in his pocket, then counted out the right amount of money.

"Thank you," he said, pleased with himself. He left the store, smiling, and then realised he still had some money left over. He walked back to the flower shop he had passed earlier, and bought Angel a bouquet of sixteen white and red roses. By the time he was done, he had used up his entire three-hundred dollars, but he was happy.

Looking at his watch, Collins groaned as he realised he still had four more hours to wait until he could visit Angel. He walked over to Tompkins Square Park and sat down on a bench, watching the birds peck at the ground. He lay back and closed his eyes, soaking in the little bit of warmth that the sun would let through on the cold, winter day.
