Character Information

Name: Joanne Jefferson
Age: 21
Gender: Girl
HIV+?: No.
Occupation: Lawyer
Hair color/style: Frizzy and brown.
Eye color: Brown.
General appearance: user posted image

Personality: Joanne has a no-nonsense attitude about her work. She takes it very seriously, and does not joke about it. The majority of her time is spent working as a prosecuting attorney for the Special Victims Unit. Living in the Lower East Side, it fits. Given the things her work deals with, she is often cynical and even a bit moody, especially after losing a case.

However, she is sometimes able to be convinced to take some Prozac and have fun. When she is with her friends, she can forget about her life at the workplace, or the victims she has had to watch police interview. They seem to have an effect on her that nothing else has. Maureen especially provides for this, in her opinion. Since she is paired with a drama queen, it brings some laughter into her life.

History: On May sixteenth, a small girl was born to two parents who lived in a penthouse on the Upper West Side.

Her name was Joanne. She was not at all unclever, just didn't talk much. She was, on the contrary, the smartest in the room. She was five, going on six in three months. Her mother, Jennie Thoms married Nathanial Walker, who vanished. Mrs. Thoms remaried Robert Murray, an extremely racist man, one of those idiots who believed white women shouldn't marry a black man. Therefore, he hated Joanne. Therefore, his and Jennie's children were taught to hate Joanne.

James and Kyle, her half-brothers, got everything first: they got to play first, were hugged and kissed first, were helped first, they even ate first. Everything for them came before anything for Joanne, except bedtime, punishment, and curses. That is, if Torika got to do what her half-brothers did. She did, however, get many more curses than everyone else. Her step-father spat them at her the way he showered his sons with compliments. So this was what Joanne grew up with until the previous year. They had taken her out of her father's care and she had been taken to the therapy center and had been shifted from foster family to foster family, all of whom could not put up with her temper.

Joanne had to get a home, legally, before she started school. So the hunt insued more viciously than before. This was easier said than done. By the end of July, she had been turned out of four foster homes.

The Jefferson family had always fostered kids. They had two sons of their own, and Torika thought of James and Kyle. If they liked Torika, she would be their third child. Mr. Rouan DeTuro called up at four in the morning, saying one word: "Come".

Once she was adopted, Joanne went through a pretty happy life. After what she had gone through in her early years, it was only fair that her adoptive parents accepted her homosexuality. She worked hard in school, went to Harvard, and eventually became the lawyer we all know and love.

RP Sample:
Joanne tried to calculate in her head how long it would be until the teacher got back, and what she'd have time to do to the homophobe in the meantime. Screw it. A hit only takes a couple of seconds. She got up, her heartbeat racing. Never in her life had she been violent, so why was she starting now? Because that guy made fun of Angel. she reminded herself, quickening her pace. What if he's strong? What if the teacher walks in? She paused for a bit, trying to decide. Should she really do this?
What if he goes too far beyond name-calling next time? This thought caused Joanne to walk even faster, all the way across the art room. Seeing the smirk the guy wore while talking to his friends sickened Joanne, which made the blow she delivered to his face appear with double the force she planned to use. "Just so you know," she said, "A brave cross-dresser is a million times cooler than an ignorant troll-boy." And with that, she walked away. Did I just do that?

Okay, just a couple of quick things we'd like you to look at;

1. Your history doesn't stretch to post-RENT like we would like it to, so if you could do that, it would be great. also, you might want to go a little into Joanne's realization of her sexuality and such, just for character development.

2. Torika?

3. Her history is a little confusing near the end. Who is Rouan DeTuro, and what precisely is his tie to the rest of the story?

If you could just clarify those things, it'd be great!
Thanks!
