1. Respect. Yes, it’s clichéd, but it’s also important. Respect the admins, respect the mods, respect the other members. That also means that, no matter what your characters feel about each other, you must still be civil with other RPers. If you’re old enough to have seen RENT, you’re old enough to be nice.

2. NO GODMODING. Godmoding, for those who don’t know, is when your character is ultra powerful and can’t be hurt by anything. If you start a fistfight with someone, you are going to walk away with a few bruises at the very least. I know for a fact all of the characters are human, and they can be hurt.

3. NO POWERPLAYING. Powerplaying is when someone controls another’s character in their post, making them do something they never said they’d done. This is a pet peeve of mine, so I suggest you not do it.

4. Please, no spamming, and no double posting. We understand that computers malfunction (all too often), but don’t do it on purpose. A double post will be deleted as soon as it is found. We admins will make sure to create an “OOC” forum with a topic where you may post all spam.

5. Oh boy, the big one. Sexual material. Yes, the relationships are a HUGE part of RENT, as everyone here should know. Things like cuddling, kissing, hugging, etc. are fine to use whenever, but please keep smut or anything like it to the PMs. This rule may be stretched in the case that the smut is an important plot point, though I SERIOUSLY doubt that’s going to happen. One example that comes to mind is a character becoming pregnant. This is only possible in a boy/girl relationship, or with adoption in a boy/boy or artificial insemination in a girl/girl (girl/girl can also adopt, obviously). Come on people, it’s not physically possible otherwise. And if this is the case, have the character say it in the forum; it is not necessary to publicly post the act. (Sofri: THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE, GOT IT MEMORIZED?)

6. Profanity. Another big one. Yes, you can curse on the forum. If you’ve seen RENT, it’s nothing new. And we all know our favorite bohemians are potty mouths (but we love em anyways). But please, don’t go around cussing all over the place just because you can. Use the privilege wisely.

7. No one-liner posts please. If you’re RPing, you can type, and doing a one-line post is just being lazy. Try to make it at least five sentences, preferably more. I can understand if you’re having a bad day and have a couple short posts, but don’t make a habit of it.

8. For starters, everyone will be limited to one character. There aren’t that many, and people should commit to the one they pick. OCs are not allowed, with one exception, and she knows who she is. This rule may be omitted later if the admins deem it necessary.

9. As far as killing goes, it shouldn’t be a problem. No one should die in this RP, unless they have AIDS, get sick, and die as part of the plot. If this happens, then the RPer has made that choice and so be it, but please discuss it with the other members and admins before you kill off a beloved character.

10. RP POSTS MUST BE IN THIRD PERSON! NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS ABOUT IT!!

-Angel drummed on her pickle tub. –GOOD!!

11. Register with your full character name; for example, Angel Dumott Schunard rather than just Angel, and Mimi Marquez rather than just Mimi. And people, TAKE YOUR TIME and be thorough on the profiles! If we don’t think you can play the character correctly and well, than you will not be accepted. We want this to be a worthwhile RP. You will be auditioned for the part of whatever char it is you want, and then Sofri and I and any other admins there may be in the future will decide.

12. When roleplaying, stay in character PLEASE. The OOC boards and C-box are there for a reason.

13. Your character should only be in one thread at a time. Awesome as RENT is, none of the characters have the ability to be in more than one place at any given time. Also, I’ve found, the plot gets /really/ hard to follow when there are ten different threads going on at once. It saves a lot of confusion and headaches.

14. Your avie and sig should match your char. This is a given.

15. Please, no crack pairings. Tomorrow For Us supports the three RENT canon pairings—Roger/Mimi, Maureen/Joanne, and Angel/Collins, as well as unrequited Mark/Maureen from Mark’s side. This forum’s plot also includes the non-canon pairing of Mark/Alexi. These will not change. Do not ask to play a character if you cannot accept who we pair them with.

16. Above all, have fun with it. I know the rules seem like a lot, but they’re there to make it more fun for everyone.

1. The primary characters that will be represented on this board are, of course, the eight bohemians plus one (who was minor in the movie/musical but is crucial to our plot). They are:

2. If you wish to play one of these characters, you will be subjected to an audition by one of the admins or mods and also required to post your profile. Based on the content of your profile and audition, Vixen and Sofri will decide if you are suited to play the character. If we deem you unable, please accept our decision.

3. If you are not accepted for one character, you may try for another. If you’ve been rejected three times, please do not try again.

4. OCs are not allowed, with one exception, and she knows who she is.

5. If you wish to play a minor character from RENT—e.g. Alison Coffin, Mr. Grey, or one of the bohemians’ parents (ONLY those who participate in the Voice Mails) please propose who you wish to play along with your profile to the admins. If they deem your character compatible with the plot at its current stage, you will go through an audition, just as with one of the main characters.

6. One person plays each character only, please. We don’t want forty-two Angels or seven Mimis or something.

One last thing: to ensure the people who sign up have read the rules, please type this at the bottom of your profile, right after the RP Sample:
