welcome to the rules,
1. Keep Gallifrey Tidy!
Nobody likes a messy board, right? When you’re posting in-character, please don’t double-post. We don’t want any spam messages or anything either. In the out-of-character forums, you can pretty much post to your heart’s content. Just don’t be a muppet, eh?
2. Roleplaying Etiquette!
Okay, so a lot of the rules I see on boards are pretty much no-brainers. You’d think, anyway. As long as you treat everyone with an equal amount of respect – we’re all decent people, right? – then we’re laughing. No racism, sexism or any other –ism. Characters can do what they like as long as they’re not too offensive. And please, no flaming in the out-of-character section. No stupid arguments. If you really hate someone on the board, you don’t have to interact with them. If you think someone has treated you unfairly, sent horrible PMs or emails, forward them to an Admin, and then we’ll sort it out. If it’s on the board, we’ll end up seeing it, and we’re not about to let anyone get bullied over a game. We’re all supposed to be having fun!
And swearing. Try not to do too much. If that’s how your character talks, fair enough, just don’t take it too far. We should all have a good vocabulary, and there’s no reason to use words that are profane for no reason.
3. Names, Avatars and Signatures!
Let’s start off with names. When you join the board, you need to have an account with the name of the character that you’re playing. To keep track of individual characters much more easily, each character takes up a full account. You’ll notice that I’m writing this as ‘The Doctor.’ I’m playing the original Doctor, and that’s his name on this board. Obviously, my online name is ‘Captain,’ but as I’m playing The Doctor, that’s my main account. If I, say, wanted to play Martha Jones as well, I would sign up for another account, the name being ‘Martha Jones.’ Easy, right? You wouldn’t believe how much that gets confused. Ooh! And by the way, if you change your mind about the character that you want when you’ve already signed up, just PM me. I can change your name easily, no worries!
Avatars! Right! It’s the usual 100x100 pixel job here.
Signatures? Please keep the maximum size of signatures to 500 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall. You know what I mean. If they’re too big, I’m just going to remove them without telling you. I’m presuming that you’ll have read this, and are just being rude.
4. Face and Canon Claims!
Face claims, easy. We have a thread just for that. The link is up on our sidebar, no problem. Now, please bear in mind that we don’t allow anime or cartoon face claims. Real people only, please! One thing that I don’t like is someone using their own face, or a friend’s face, for their character. I don’t know about you, but that’s a bit too creepy for my tastes. There’s a whole range of celebrities out there, whether they’re actors, singers or models. Use them!
We also have a rather large canon list for you to choose from. I’ve already given you rules in that thread (also found on the sidebar!), so I’m not going to write it again here. Just follow the rules there, and there’ll be no problem.
4. Characters and Applications!
I love seeing the characters that different people come up with. In most cases, they’re unique enough to catch my eye and yet believable enough to work in a great story. Brilliant: no complaints.
However, every so often we come across those ‘Mary Sue’ and ‘Peter Perfect’ characters. (I have no idea why people call them this. Ahem.) Anyway, they’re bland and boring. Oh noes! Your character lead a horrible, horrible life! How can they go on! Or wow! Your character is the most amazingly talented, handsome, popular character in the world! Yay! Yawn. There’s also no excuse for characters who are vicious for no reason, who are pointless loners, etc etc etc. Please… just don’t.
As far as applications go, there’s a reason behind them. Apart from making you put in some effort before you start playing, the whole application form is really for you. That form is your basic fact sheet for your character, so if you forget something, you can look it up later.
If that’s the case, why do we need to accept applications before you can play? Just so you know what we’re looking for, really. And to screen away the awful ‘Mary Sues,’ too, of course. If something isn’t quite right, we’re going to talk to you about it. Hell, everyone needs a hand, or makes a mistake. We’re pretty laid back, no worries. No one’s perfect! Just make sure you’ve finished your application in three days, okay? It’s not a really long one.
5. The Board Staff!
This is probably going to be really obvious. I’m here to help, right? And no question is stupid. (Okay, some are, but if you’re genuinely confused about something, we’re not going to be nerks.) If you ever need anything, PM the staff. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can. That’s the deal. Now, your end, you need to follow the rules. Be respectful to everyone, and we’ll be happy. No one deserves more respect than anyone else here.
[As a side-note, I can’t stand those admins or board staff members that believe they’re always right. If we’re wrong, we’ll apologise. Also, there’s no ‘playing favourites’ here. Some people are great friends on the board, and some are just people they roleplay with. If a friend messes up, it’s the same as a complete stranger. Trust me on this one.]
