Hogsmeade Shenanigans, Kit and Merc!

"Mercky, I'd be delighted!" Kit bowed, taking care not to slosh butterbeer everywhere. She hadn't really thought about the ball much, but when she had, the only possible option for a 'date' of sorts had been Merc. She straightened up. "And what's all this about having to go? I think prancing around in dress robes and getting rolling drunk would be fun!"

The scary thing was, Kit was probably telling the truth. She shrugged and drunk some more butterbeer before saying, "I just assumed we'd go together..." realising what this might have sounded like, she added hastily, "no-not as a couple or anything, but you know what I mean..."

"Of course," Merc grinned, "who else would have me?!"
He affectionately pulled on one of her loose curls. Truth be told, he was rather looking forward to the ball now!
"I suppose we'd better get going back to Hogwarts. We can't miss dinner. There's only so much Rod can cover for us." He steered her around to the direction they had come from, and began to walk back. He threw their now empty butterbeer bottles in a nearby bin - they didn't want to return with incriminating evidence - and said spontaneously, "Race you back!"
With the challenge issued, he ran back to the shack they had come from, confident of victory.
