Mariquis hitting the books

[Verity]

"Of course" she said to Ly. "Ah ... I remember learning about boggarts ..." she trailed of. "Have you two heard anything about that new fellow, Gary Bloke? Last I heard of him was that he was running down the hall in his underwear! I mean, really..." she said.

[Ariadne]

Mariquis frowned thoughtfully, making his glasses slide down his nose. Pushing them up again, he resumed frowning thoughtfully. When his glasses slid down his nose again, he gave up. "He's Australian and from all reports a bit strange. I saw him walking down the hall and he looked like he was sleepwalking. Of course, it was early this morning, so he might have been. Other than that, I don't know much about him. I haven't even gotten around to pranking him yet. I wonder what kind of prank I should pull on him." He started frowning thoughtfully again, making his glasses slide down his nose for a third time. This time he left them there, resting on the tip of his nose.

"Ah Mari ... master of pranks. I saw him spill tea on himself this morning. He seems a bit clumsy ... maybe you could use that to your advantage" she said with a gleam in her eye.

[Ariadne]

Mariquis grinned at her. "I shall. Perhaps you would like to join me in giving our good Professor Bloke the taste of his first prank." He looked over at Ly. "Would you like to join in as well Ly? Between the three of us, we should be able to come up with a wonderful prank."

"From what I've seen and heard of this fellow, it seems he doesn't need to be pranked to act foolishly. But by all means, go ahead. Alas, I am due for my fourth-year transfiguration class." He smiled wryly as he stood up, his hands full of spellbooks. "Good day," Ly said, striding out of the room, black cloak billowing. He didn't really approve of pranking other teachers, but it was Mariquis...that was part of his charm. Luckily, Ly had never himself been victim to one of these, it was quite difficult to catch him off guard, he was afterall the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher! He made for the owlery, where he had to pick up a cage of mice he required for his next lesson. They would be turning mice into mousepads...

"Bye Ly!" called Mel. She sighed and munched on a cookie silently. She got out her organiser and flipped through it. It fell open on October 8th. She looked at it and gasped. They were having a dance. She had completely forgotten about it. The Headmaster had introduced it at the begging of last year. It was the annual Hogwarts welcoming dance, a dance that took place at the start of the year to welcome back the old students. "Mari..." she said, showing him her organiser. "Look!!" she said, jabbing her wand at the page. "A dance! Oh my..." she said. "I'm suposed(sp?) to be putting up leaflets around the school, annoucing our welcome dance! Oh gosh..." she said, getting flustered. "Uh... Pariquif" she said, and a mountain of bright green leaflets appeared on the desk. She grabbed them and hurried out of the room.

Mariquis stared after her, then sighed. Now he was by himself again. Atleast he had the cookies. He wondered what it was that made younger people scurry around like they did. Maybe they thought things would go faster if the scurried. Or they were all late. Perhaps that was it. Young people scurried because they were late.
Please to have come to that conclusion, he reached for another cookie. A dance would be fun. Seeing the student dancing was always amusing, as was seeing the other teachers dance. He wondered who he would ask to go with him. Maybe Mel. She was a good dancer, and they would be able to have a laugh together. Nodding to himself, he picked up one of his books. Time for him to go back to his reading.
