Ok. This started off when we were reading the part in book seven when Remus enters Grimmauld Place. The first thing he says is "It is I, Remus John Lupin." And that just struck me as sounding totally wrong. It is *I*??? I mean, Remus has good grammar, but that's just ridiculous. Nobody would ever say that in THIS day and age! It's way to melodramatic and just doesn't fit with the way people actually speak.
Tonks said that it might be acceptable because the wizarding world uses a different vernacular than we do, but I disagree. There is common, everyday speech, and then there are things like 'merlin's beard'. Wizards have different expressions, but their degrees of formality are the same. The harry potter characters are what i love most (obviously. heh.) not the plot. for the first few books, the characterization was so good that i couldn't imagine how she'd managed to do it without actually talking to the characters while writing. Then came the 6 book, and tonks' and moony's strange character twists, and then finally, number 7, which degenerated into a fanfiction sounding story (Except for when harry walked to his death. That was amazing). She seems to have gotten out of touch with her characters, as if she decided that she'd already down so many books that she was above character work.(You are NEVER above character work, IMO.)So It seems to me though that she got lazy with the character sketches, didn't review her notes/interviews with the characters, and the story stopped being so effective. -------------------- The One that has the power to defeat the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies.............

I say she slacked off... Remus' character was *totally* wrong in the 7th book... I didn't like him. (The way he acted I mean...)

I know! He starts talking and then I'm in shock. Is *this* my love? No! It completely changed. Trauma from the war and various deaths doesn't explain it, because it changed much after the worst of it happened. He's a completely different person. I went back and read three and five (for the few mentions of him there are there) and he was Remus again, and I could hear him speaking his lines in my head. Not so in late 6 and 7. Remus was always self sacrificing, but leaving a pregnant tonks? never.

-shakes head- Ron changed a lot too... he was a bit more on the angsty-harry side...

Yeah, that *was* weird, and the way he came back to them? Extremely far-fetched. Ruined the suspension of disbelief in that segment. Ron was so much better in the first three books, then I started to dislike him.

Eh, I liked him in the 4th one... he was going thru teenage puberty! It was funny...

well, almost everybody annoyed me in the fourth, so he was still in character, just...annoying.
but in the 6th, everybody was so super annoying i wanted to hop in the book and yell at them. but it was probably pretty realistic...you can't have a set of PERFECT friends all the time. -------------------- The One that has the power to defeat the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies.............

Mad at me cause I was close with Carolyn.. only because B's best-friend was dating her... I mean I like her, I just couldn't be around her a lot... with in the whole group that sat outside I liked her least... now Chris, he was amazing and funny, there's a boy I would date...

yeah, which now seems like you were barely involved. i was mad you weren't supporting me. megan and gloria were being pretty nasty.
LOL. not pretty, but related. i was at edwards and this 6 foot black guy with waist length dreadlocks, all in black, walks by with ICE BLUE EYES. it was freaky. i didn't even know you could *get* contacts to change your eye color that completely. cuz i thought they just worked with your natural color. -------------------- The One that has the power to defeat the dark lord will be born as the seventh month dies.............
