Here's how it's going down

1 week, 75000 total posts, limited spam and such, you get the point.

If not achieved, the board will be closed until November 18, 2006, the eve of the Wii. Whether or not it's closed, there's something that will be happening that day.

I will give 2 days of preparation. Use this topic to give me ideas or others ideas, such as bulk emailing everyone (you can even pick what it says), changing rules, etc.

If you think this is not possible, then that explains why this board should die. Myself, Starry, and Exlax were able to get 5000 total posts on Sotss's old board in less than a week. Sotss at the time didn't even had 200 members

There's the challenge. Do it, or do not. We'll see if its worth keeping up or not

Oh, and remember, this is member coordinated, and I will not come up with anything and such. I'll just be the one to transfer stuff and such

Well, there is no question bulk emailing could help a little if worded right, but it won't help alone. We need a new way to attract new members. I'd say that if you can find someone who does skinning to get a new skin (possibly something that matches the site layout). Also, have you thought about ranks? Set up a rank based on Mario characters and make a little picture with the name of the rank and a sprite of the character (you could use pics from the site to make the ranks and make a 100 by 50 pixel picture with them). SMB forums (the old one) had something like it. If you don't have time to make them all I can make them (if you give me permission to use the pictures on the site). I don't know how good they'll be but they will definitely be better than little green bars. Ranks encourage people to post more.

The ranks could go in order similar to something like this:

Goomba - 0 to 99 posts
Shy Guy - 100 to 249 posts
Croco - 250 to 349 posts
Toad - 350 to 499 posts
Bowyer - 500 to 599 posts
Bowser - 600 to 749 posts
Peach - 750 to 849 posts
Mallow - 850 to 999 posts
Geno - 1000 to 1499 posts
Mario - 1500 to 3999 posts
Smithy - 4000 to 6999 posts
Culex - 7000 to ------

They don't have to be just like that, they can be however you want.

As for the message in that bulk mail, if you do make a new skin and do like the rank thing, then include that in the message. I can't think of anything else it should say at the moment though (it is after 10PM).

I will not have new members join just for a skin, because then they are not joining for the right reason. Although, we do need one

You're focusing on the wrong thing, we need POSTS, not MEMBERS. Granted, one's with another, but we got a base

Ask the others about it though, I'm not going to tell you or anyone else what to do

I know we need posts, but I think it is important to attract new members too. That way there may be more stuff worth replying to. I know if someone just joins for a skin then it's the wrong reason, but for some it may be an initial attraction, it will draw them in to start with and then if they like the board they'll stay.

As for the rank thing. That will promote posting. If someone has something they are thinking about saying but don't know if they want to take the time to post it they may be more inclined to post to get closer to the next rank. It's just a thought. I like ranks, especially if posts get too high and new ones start being made. On SMB the next rank was kept a secret until someone reached the post count that unlocked it.

When you bulk email them, no one will actually believe you SM. Believing you will really close the board is like believing that Hyper Geno will stay. =P

Although it seems more real then the previous times.

If it does close it's a shame. For 2 reasons.

1. Last time I checked there weren't any other good MRPG sites.
2.This was the first forum I wasn't a complete loser in.

I hope bulk emailing works though. I miss the members who were here when I joined. (Hammerbro, Booster, FinalHazard, that Pidget dude (forgot name), Boombot etc.)

Pfft. This place is pathetic. The site may be decent but the board is an utter disgrace.

You may not belive me, I don't care. Last I checked, this is the first time in how long you've been here? Try coming here more, than go off about it and the decisions made, then I don't care what's said.

If this goes down, it gives me more time to work on Sml's board, which members from here might join there. I expect Sml to be bigger anyways, so it would be good to get it off to a start

My computer was broken. And the people at my school make sure I don't talk to people online in any way (including forums because EVRYONE ON INTANET IS PEDOPHILE!!1!!1!!)

Your computer was broke that long? I have a very, very hard time believing that in the time you last came and now that you could not have gotten on 1 computer to post that yours broke or that you wouldn;t be back for a long time

SM.............this site cant close. What Mr. X said is right. I have a forum too. it sucked for a while, only 3 members. 3 days ago, I got 5 new members, and then another, and I'm expecting 4 more(they all got grounded). I showed them the cool graphics and all, ranks, the 10 different moderator positions, etc. They thought it was cool. Long story short, we have to make people think this place is cool. If you really need active members, then I'll spread the word(I know 50 different active people). I'll make sure this site never closes, I'll do anything. Let me know if I can help.

I did in May. I think I almost got suspended for that. =P

Although, to be more on topic.....I'll make sure to post....alot...yeah. (that was a lame attempt to stay on topic)

Haha, I thought you meant get 75,000 posts in a week! That would be in possible, but 8000 is still not that realistic... And closing it this close to the realese of the Wii might be the stupidest move ever! People will get active again then probably... I have been here a a few weeks and hve what, maybe 30 posts? don't really feel like checking but, doyou really think that some people will just waste time here for a week so it doesn't close?

We should all try to reply in all of the topics without it being spam. And I mean reply everytime someone else replies.

I like AIB's question about raising dead topics. I see all kinds of great topics older than a month to post in, but can't do so since the rules bar it. Sure, I can read it all, and then create a new topic based on the thoughts I made during that reading, but who really wants to do that when its all right there in front of them?

Actually, I think a recent update allowed bumping older topics as long as it was a relavent post and you don't go crazy.

Or maybe that was just the games forum.....

With the amount of people here, I still thin 800 posts is no way in He11 realistic. Maybe we should shoot for smaller goals like 2000...

8000 posts? Forget that guys. Making that many posts in a week is meaningless, forcing posts only ends up with a severe lack in quality. Spam in disguise! There's an average of like 400 posts per week on this forum (judging by SM's join date). 20 times that is insane.

If these forums close, a new SMRPG forum will be opened (with duplicate profile/postcount info and all, if wanted). I don't think the forums will close anyhow.
