Super Mario RPG II: Star Road Heroes Huge focus on the Star Road, and Geno's background. It would also delve into the creation of the Star Universe in Mario's world. The Team for Mario RPG 2 1 Mario 2 Geno 3 Luigi 4 Croco 5 Rosalina Rosalina could be revealed as the higher authority all along. Think about it, Geno's spirit is a star. Rosalina is the 'Mother of Stars." It would be a huge swerve, that makes sense and it keeps the game current too. Croco would be a good new team member. He became an ally to Mario at the end of Mario RPG. Is very memorable from the original. He would be an anti hero like Bowser was, and would have a good moveset. Putting Bowser back on the team would not make sense, as Bowser's castle isn't threatened this time around. Luigi is Mario's partner, and people wanted to play as him in the original. Think of Superstar Saga. Geno would come back as the doll, to tell Mario that a new enemy threatens Star Road. Note: Mallow is now known as King Mallow, who inherited the thrown of Nimbus Land from his parents. He helps, but watches on from afar. Princess Peach and the Chancellor/Toadsworth encourages the team. Bowser....I am not sure? Your thoughts please.

This is pure brilliance!! As for Bowser I would guess his role wouldn't be very major considering what you said, his castle is no longer threatened but it would be nice to see his return to the sequel. Again, your ideas are excellent and they make perfect sense!

I like Rosalina, I think she's one of the better new Mario characters they've come up with. Im not a huge fan of the partners Mario had in the Paper Mario games..ie Watt. Watt? Come on now. I think Croco is well liked among Mario RPG fans. And Im unsure about teaming Mario and Bowser back up. I think to make this sequel work, we need a proper balance of old school and new school without compromising the integrity of what we love about the original Mario RPG.

Sorry for the double post, I am a huge Bowser fan, however I'd be looking for a way to give us old Mario RPG fans a new experience while seeming familiar. We all know why Bowser teamed with Mario. The sequel would just be a Mario RPG LOTSS copy.

I think having Bowser as a final boss by himself and making him insanely difficult would bring back some of his glory. It seems that he always gets pushed around, or is just second to last boss or Cackletta invades him or something. I'd love to see Bowser going at it with 1-hit KO Fire moves and powerful slashes with his claws. You gotta give Bowser some more respect.

Man, Square and Nintendo have to get this project rolling! I want to play this game tomorrow!
Do you think the team should go up to like say 6 people? Or would that be overkill?
I still think Rosalina is a good answer to the "Higher Authority" question. It would really bring the Mario Universe full circle.
Croco would join the team, he'll be under the impression that a treasure is to be gained by going on this adventure.
And the Star Road? Think of the possibilities.

If the first game had 5 playable characters, there'd need to be at elast 7 for improvement for me, especially if a repetitive character like Geno is used. Granted, he and Mallow need to be playable, creating the extra 2.
Rosalina should've been a one game character, but like Petey, Nintendo will whore her out. They already have with Mario Kart Wii.
Croco's fine and all, not worth a playable character at all. Fine as an ally or enemy, but not a playable. No way that could happen under this scenario, maybe another. That, and there has to be some new ones, ala Geno and Mallow.
Bowser/Toadstool were huge for Mrpg, and they need to be represented accordingly.
Star Road wasn't the main focus of the original, it was a theoretically place. I would highly prefer it that way, because it gives a sense of mystery and such with Geno. Geno's great because of it.

I like the idea of Rosalina being a potential party member, but I disagree about her role as the "higher authority"... If you've seen the storybook segments in Super Mario Galaxy that tell the story of how Rosalina became who she is now, she really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Star Road. She simply takes care of the Lumas, who could conceivably be the same race as the Stars in Star Haven... maybe. Nintendo doesn't exactly worry too much about continuity in the Super Mario universe, so it could be done. I think that Star Haven serves as a much closer tie to the "higher authority" Geno alludes to, with the Star Spirits themselves being that authority. Still, Rosalina's a good character, and she'd be awesome to see in an SMRPG sequel, a la Lost Odyssey's Ming Numara, the resident royalty - Peach doesn't seem to embrace that persona very much anymore. It could also make for some entertaining rivalry - two princesses, possibly vying for Mario's attention?

I've always disliked how Nintendo kept Daisy from Super Mario Land but let all the other characters disappear. I have an idea: what if Tatanga was brought back in this game, seeing that he's from space and all. He could have an important role as an antagonist if a space area was in the game somewhere. No one will like this idea if they haven't played and enjoyed Super Mario Land lol

These are all BRILLIANT ideas when nintendo makes the sequel they should put you in charge. but I'd like Yoshi to be a playable character too he's been a good friend of mario's, it sucks that only the paper yoshi has been a playable character in any mario RPG, I could think up awsome special moves he could use in my sleep, and many of us Yoshi fans would be even more tempted to buying this game if yoshi was playable.
All the other characters would seem to work perfectly I'd kinda like mallow to be back though in the story mallow's parents could still be king and queen so he'd still be allowed to travel plus I think mallow deserves to be playable if geno is
The tatanga ideas good too yes it does suck when nintendo doesn't put good use to these awsome mario characters

I don't know what it is, but whoever at Nintendo HQ is deciding which Mario characters will be part of the mainstream, they. are. HIGH. No one asked for Baby Daisy and Baby Peach. Hell, I doubt anyone asked for baby MARIO. Petey Piranha, I admit, has grown on me - but that's only because he shares my name. And Rosalina? I can already tell that they're going to start shoving her down out throats, whether we like it or not. Really, the only character choice they seem to have made WELL lately, is the inclusion of Funky Kong in Mario Kart Wii.
Oh, and a funny note about MKW. No Petey? I find that amusing, considering they left KING BOO in there. What a freaking waste of a slot THAT was.
Nintendo really needs to develop what they already HAVE. There's a CRAP-LOAD of characters as it is - many of which with actual FANBASES, and they're constantly being left in the dust for the sake of randomly-inserted characters that no one asked for.
And don't even get me started on the constant use of generic races within the rosters for sports and kart games. Generic Koopa Troopa, but not Kooper. Generic Boo, but not Bow. Baby, after baby, after freaking baby, but no Geno, Mallow, Vivian, Wart, etc, etc, so on and so forth.
And even for the characters they use that are POPULAR, ala Daisy and Waluigi (God I hate Waluigi), Nintendo seems to REFUSE to use them outside of spinoff games. They REFUSE to develop their characters. And that's hard to complain about with a series like this one, which relies very little on character development.
But anyway, yeah - this game idea? I'm not sure I like it. Though I WILL agree on the theory of Rosalina being the Higher Authority which Geno speaks of - just not quite in the way suggested. Playable, though? No thanks.
Croco, no thanks.
Either bring Geno and/or Mallow back, or create a new character.
Star Road? "Think of the possibilities"? Why don't you think of the possibilities? This is your idea. We've actually GONE to Star Road numerous times in the past, if you recall.
Personally, I always thought the second SMRPG game would take place in Vanda - the kingdom of darkness which Culex heralds from? I had this whole idea for a Geno-centric platformer, where the gameplay is all based on emitting light in different ways - activating switches, fighting, etc.

Well, keep in mind this is an "ideas" thread. Left for open discussion. I was just throwing Croco out there, because I thought people liked him. Looking back on it, I think Mallow should come back into the party. Except, I think by now his story should be about him wanting to prove himself worthy of being King of Nimbus Land. Rosalina, I still think we could use her as the "higher authority." What would you guys do, keep Princess Peach in there? I guess that'd be okay if you're not a fan of having Rosalina playable. However, who should the main antagonist be? Maybe Bowser and a new villain could be working together? I like how Ganondorf and Bowser were put together in Brawl. Not Ganondorf obviously, but someone else. Now that you guys are talking, I am liking the sound of Culex being the main villain. He did say in Mario RPG, "maybe in another place another time, we would have been rivals." Or something like that. Hinting at a return. Bowser and Culex working together as an unholy alliance.
This would also be my revised team, how's this?
1 Mario 2 Geno 3 Mallow 4A favorite character from Mario RPG who was in the adventure not playble, now returning as playable( ie Croco or Booster) 5 A new character 6 Peach
6 alltogether, your thoughts please? I plan on making a boss response too.

I am open to having Paper Mario characters in the game. Super Mario RPG as we recall, had enemies dating back since the original trilogy. I'd like to take Mario RPG II as a way to build characters who Nintendo's forgotten.

I agree wholeheartedly. I hate that there are MORE babies coming out. Petey Pirahna isn't so bad (not referring to Mario RPG s sequel, obviously), but I think don't think Rosalina should be the "higher authority." After Paper Mario, I would rather see the star spirits be the authority then a brand new character.
The Super Mario RPG sequel CANNOT EXIST without Geno and Mallow being playable characters. I love the idea of Geno being an upgraded doll and Mallow being determined to prove himself worthy of being king.
Bowser and Princess Toadstool should definitely be in the game, but I'm not sure about playable. I wouldn't be against it, but if they were playable, there better be some new playable characters too. New playables are a MUST.
Croco and Booster should definitely make an appearance. Not playable.
And also, this Vivian everyone keeps speaking of. Are you referring to the Boo like sister from Thousand Year Door?

First thing first, I saw the true credits to Mario Kart Wii and I saw Rosalina. I was surprised that she was so beautiful. And she got the Lumas with her! There is no way that Rosalina will turned like that! Petey maybe gone but he left his kart at Mario Kart Wii. Second of all, I wanted to wait until later but I just can't wait anymore. Rosalina is in another Galaxy. She can finally live in peace with the Lumas. I have finished the whole game, collected all 120 Power Stars and beat King Bowser twice, I should know! I like everybody spirit and imagination but some of it is just illogical. I don't have any ideas on me yet, but I'm proud to say that I have played Super Mario RPG for 11 years and 361 days and the sequel will be a hit The Radiance Paladin

Well since I got that out of my system, it's time to shed some light! Super Mario RPG II should be just as great as the first one, but we got to concentrate on a strong storyline that can make this game great. ctt4lfecw idea was to make Star Road the main story, but other have different ideas in mind. As long as we got the return of Culex, more info (but not too much) of Geno and Star Road, the special guest apperance of a few character from the Paper Mario series, and Yoshi of course, this game is gonna shine. My list of character are (an opinion) 1. Mario (of course, can't have a game without him) 2. Mallow (Mallow's cool, and without him Mario wouldn't have rescue the Princess in the first place. 3. Geno (The mysterious doll that has a past locked up until now. Almost everybody wants to know) 4. Bowser (Without Bowser, Mario will be still at the bottom of Booster's tower wondering how to get inside. 5. Princess Toadstool (Princess Toadstool won't take no for an answer in the first game. Enough say) 6. Luigi (Mario's brother finally spring into action as he helps Mario) 7. Yoshi (Everybody favorite dragon play a small role in the first game but comes back with a vengenge.) 8. Shine Ninja's oringial character. (Trust me, you will need at least one character from Square-Enix side to make this works) Guest Characters so far: 1. Culex: Whether you want him as a playable character or not, he will play a role somewhere. (By the way Yoshisan, you're right, Culex is a good guy. Mario and Culex has parted as comrades in arms.) That's all I can think about for now! The Radiance Paladin

| QUOTE (Yoshi_221 @ May 11 2008, 12:04 AM) | Bellome and Croco definately have to return if a sequel is made. I agree with Luigi, Yoshi and Rosalina becoming playable but they should upgrade the battle system to include 4 party members and have a cameo from Final Fantasy IV (since Culex was supposed to be a reference to that.) Maybe have Cecil or Rydia as a playable cameo character (hey it could happen).
Also, Daisy, Toadette and Waluigi should have some kind of story role, even if they are just NPCs or temporary party members. |
I'm for Luigi and Yoshi being playable, but not so much Rosalina. I do however agree that the battle system ought to have four characters in your party, and I also think that they should make it so either A) you can play as any party member while outside of battle, or 2) you play as Mario on the field, but have the other members of your party following behind him a la Chrono Trigger and Earthbound.
Personally, if Waluigi and Daisy did somehow weasel their way into the game, I'd rather they be NPCs. Toadette, on the other hand, could do what she did in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and give tutorials.
One other thing I think would be neat to have in the sequel, would be the return of the Pit of 100 Trials.

I like the idea of being able to use someone else outside of battle I'd use Geno all the time! But there is the fact that Mario can jump really high and others not so much (i.e. Mallow). There were times in SMRPG where Mario's jumping skills were needed outside of battle.
