Title: SUPER MARIO RPG MMORPG INTERVIEW!!!

ShadowSonic - November 17, 2008 05:35 AM (GMT)
IGN got an exclusive interview about details of the upcoming Super Mario RPG MMORPG [working title] for the Wii!!!!!

Link to IGN Wii Interview

IGN Wii: Well it must have been a surprise when Nintendo brought the idea for an MMORPG on the Wii over to your company.

Kang Kim: It was a very big shock to me and our company when we had a meeting from Nintendo and that they wanted to bring an MMORPG, based off from Super Mario RPG, to the Wii. We've done some very successful MMORPG's in the past, and still going strong today with all the games we have produced.

IGN Wii: Since Super Mario RPG was produced by Square-Enix, will you have the rights to use their characters?

Kang Kim: I can't say too much about the rights at the moment, but we will have permission on using characters made from Square-Enix.

IGN Wii: Have you ever played Super Mario RPG yourself?

Kang Kim: I've never owned a Super Nintendo but I do own a Wii. I also downloaded Super Mario RPG on the Virtual Console. I haven't completed it but it's very fun.

IGN Wii: I'm sure some the Geno/Mallow fans out there are dying to know whether or not they will be in this game. As well as other fan favorite characters.

Kang Kim: Sorry, can't reveal anything about that yet.

IGN Wii: Oh, well that sucks. All your MMORPG's are all for the PC. Do you think it will be complicated trying to produce an MMORPG for the Wii? Also, will it be in 3D or 2D?

Kang Kim: While it does seem like a challenge right now, we believe we will grasp a hold of this concept and be able to do a successful MMORPG for the Wii. With this being their first MMORPG for the Wii, we hope in doing every right and not have to throw out ideas and start from scratch over and over again. Also, this game is going to be in entirely in 3D.

IGN Wii: How much of Super Mario RPG will be related?

Kang Kim: We are going to try and keep it faithful to the actual game. While Nintendo haven't decided yet if they want to try and make the action turn based, or make it "free roam" fighting, we believe that keeping it faithful to turn based will please the fans. We will also be taking backgrounds and battlefields and try to base the world around that.

IGN Wii: Does this mean you will be creating new areas not seen in Super Mario RPG?

Kang Kim: Sorry, can't say anything yet to confirm or deny this.

IGN Wii: I see. Seeing how this game is going to be an MMO, I'm assuming you guys are going to support Keyboard USB support. Will you guys be doing any other support for other kinds of communications? Like mic speak?

Kang Kim: Of course we will have support for Keyboards. The game might come packaged with it's own keyboard if the idea passes, but seeing how you can plug almost any kind of Keyboard into the Wii, it's more then likely it won't come packaged with one. And whether or not the Wii will support more brands of keyboards, that's up to the Wii developers over at Nintendo. Regarding speaking with microphones, we probably won't supporting that.

IGN Wii: Well as long as keyboards work, that's very nice to hear. Will you guys offer any downloadable content? Or how about patches or bug fixes?

Kang Kim: We've been pushing this idea and saying to Nintendo that this is a must, especially for being the Wii's first MMORPG. At the moment, Nintendo came back to us saying they will more then likely have a channel for our game which will do automatic updates via WiiConnect24. Also in the channel, there will be content in which you can buy using Wii Points.

IGN Wii: With the the upcoming Pay-To-Play Wii games coming soon, will this game have a monthly subscription?

Kang Kim: Just like our other MMORPG's, this game won't have a monthly fee. But, like I said before, it will have content that's available to purchase with Wii Points. Such as buying items and weapons.

IGN Wii: Will it feature any PvP options?

Kang Kim: Can't say.

IGN Wii: Well thank you very much for your time Kang, we hope to look forward to this as time goes on. Will this be shown at E3 2009?

Kang Kim: More then likely, there will probably only be Alpha videos to be shown since we've just acquired the project. And thank you for the interview.

Ok ShadowSonic....I know you and your work and all but C'mon. A Tripod site? 3 days dated with no other news sources reporting it? You can't seriously expect me to believe that right??

What are you trying to prove here?

ShadowSonic - November 17, 2008 08:07 AM (GMT)
I just found this on the Gamefaqs board. The guy on there got pretty burned trying to fool people. I guess I'm not better at it then he is lol ^^;

MetalMario - November 17, 2008 11:35 AM (GMT)
So why make this whole big topic just to fool people? I mean I didn't really believe the Wii was getting an MMO. Not in the least.

Shine Ninja - November 19, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
Even if it was real, I wouldn't play it. Its because a Super Mario RPG MNO sounds weird.

1) Nintendo never prove that they can make original human characters for any Mario game before, so I don't think it's going to happen now. And when I mean original human characters, I don't mean dansels in distress. I mean fighting with the Mario Bros.

2) We don't know who the bad guy is. If it Bowser, I sure one Mario is enough for him.

3) Pay-to Play? Nintendo would never charge to play any game.

and 4) If it was true, then we would've heard it from Nintendo Power, not from IGN.

But nice try though. ^_^

MetalMario - November 19, 2008 08:13 PM (GMT)
Actually, Pay-to-play is a real thing. For Guitar Hero World Tour, Samba De Amigo, and maybe Rock Band 2 for Wii, you can download songs in-game with your Wii Points. It's new. ^_^

And it was a pretty good try, but I'm not convinced about it. Probably never will be.

Shine Ninja - November 19, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
Uh, MetalMario. Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Samba De Amigo isn't made by Nintendo; Nintendo has no control over pay that third-parties ask for. And besides, I'm talking about paying $14.99 (more or less) a month to play with other people, hence the MMO part. As for the Wii Points, you got a point. ^_^

JonnyJinx - November 20, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
Well, since this was a hoax, I guess this topic is pointless now. Closed.
