the bates complex
The Bates Complex is an upperclassmen residential area consisting of six-person apartments. The Complex is located on South Campus. All students under the age of 21 are required to live in the substance-free area of Bates. Students who are 21 or older may live in the substance-free entryways or in the 21+ area.
Approximately 350 male and female students live at Bates, in a unique blend of returning, transfer, and international students. Bates has a Commons Building that features a large-screen TV, VCR, and recreational equipment available to all residents.
Townhouse apartments on the two lower levels have two single bedrooms and two double bedrooms; the upper level townhouses and all flat apartments have three double bedrooms. Each apartment has a full kitchen and two bathrooms.

bowditch hall
Bowditch Hall is a traditional, corridor-style residence hall located on North Campus, housing first-year students. Each floor has double, triple, and quad rooms, a large bathroom, and a lounge. All bathrooms and floor lounges at Bowditch were recently redesigned. In addition, the front of the building is newly landscaped with an accessible design.
Approximately 300 male and female students live in the building on six floors: two male floors and four female floors. Each floor has one or two Resident Assistants.

central campus residence hall
Central Campus Residence Hall is a 452-bed, apartment style residence hall, housing upperclass students. Each apartment houses six students in two double and two single rooms, and includes 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and a living room space. Each apartment is furnished and has a convection oven, dishwasher, and full size refrigerator.
CCRH has a fitness room and a "smart" classroom on the ground floor. A 24-hour security desk is at the entrance, and the hall is staffed with ten Resident Assistants, an Assistant Resident Director, and a full-time Resident Director.
Central is designated as substance-free living and includes air-conditioning with temperature controls in each apartment.

peabody hall
Peabody Hall is a traditional, corridor-style residence hall located on North Campus. Most residents at Peabody Hall are first-year students. Each floor has double, triple, and four-person (quad) rooms, a large bathroom and guest bathroom, a study lounge, and a TV lounge.
Approximately 370 male and female students live in the building on seven floors: two male floor and five female floors. Each floor has one or two Resident Assistants.

The college bookstore offers a wide variety of items required by their customers. The recommended texts for all courses are available with respective course names and codes properly labeled for shopping convenience. The books are well arranged to facilitate easy service to the customers.
The bookstore also sells and buys used texts and a service desk for re-sales is set up for faster service. In addition to academic materials, the bookstore also sells colorful and high quality print memorabilia, such as t-shirts, caps, sportswear, alumni products, key holders, and mugs.

the art department
The Art Department at Salem State has undergone major space transformations recently resulting in expanded and new facilities. More than $400,000 has been expended for improving the Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, and Graphic Design areas (two state-of-the-art Mac Labs were installed this year). This keeps the Art Program current with professional art practices.
