I was thinking about bringing my RPG ratings topic back, and I had a different idea: Instead of games, characters. I'll throw a random group of characters for evaluation, and you tell me what you think of them. You'll also give them a score, from 0 to 100. For now, we'll limit ourselves to PCs only. Let's see how this will work.

We'll start with the playable cast of FFX; as for Yuna/Rikku, you can take their FFX-2 forms, but only if you want to: I'll throw them again later.

Tidus:
Rikku:
Wakka:
Lulu:
Yuna:
Kihmari:
Auron:

What are we ranking these characters based on?

Characterization? Usefulness in game? Usefulness in RPGDL? Appearance? Something else?

Subject to change, based wholly on Characterization before Yunalesca

Tidus: 90/100
Rikku: 70/100
Wakka: 70/100
Lulu: 65/100
Yuna: 100/100
Kihmari: 30/100 (Eh. He has moments.) (Also, I think it's "Kimahri". Could be wrong, though.)
Auron: 90/100 (Gets a big boost for his performances right before Yunalesca.)

Tidus - 80/100. Really very well characterized, and at least 1.5 dimensional. The fact that he's obviously grating on the nerves knocks him back a bit. Probably the best of the FF mains, though, given I don't see FF6 as having a clear protagonist.
Rikku - 30/100. She was okay, but mostly just irritating.
Wakka - 90/100. I really like Wakka. Along with dark, brooding characters, I'm also a sucker for a well-characterized big brother or average chap type. Add to that the fact that he's realistically flawed in his Al Bhed racism, and he's definitely a good character.
Lulu - 60/100. Points for style, but not much else. I.... am trying to rationalize rating her higher, given that she's all dark and brooding, but she's lots of flash without much behind it, in my mind.
Yuna - 90/100. She undergoes a real journey, and becomes a strong female heroine. Like her or not, it's the truth. *shrugs*
Kimhari - 20/100. .... blech. Just.... ugh.
Auron - 80/100. Again, I wish I could rate him higher, but ah well. I do think he's a strong character, and I love the muted sense of despair that's around him at all times, especially after the boss right before Zanarkand, and during the Yunalesca arc. The contrast between yougn Auron and old Auron seen in Jecht's spheres is also nice. Sadly, there are many places where I think the writers went for the 'badass' factor when he could have been a more substantial character.

Tidus: 8/10. I liked him, and found him well done. However, at times, he did kind of get a bit on your nerves, and seemed to overreact (though he did NOT whine as often as people claim). The Laughing Scene alone brings him down a point sleep.gif
Rikku: 8/10 (based on her FFX appearance only. Based on her FFX-2 appearance...add a "-" sign before >.>) I found her funny, cute, and well done as the kind of perky "Lets get our spirits up!" type character. Though, she did seem a bit "mehish" when she wasn't in the happy mood
Wakka: 7/10. I thought he could have been better developed beyond the whole "I'm a Yevon Fanatic!" type ordeal. Not that he was bad, but could have been a lot better done.
Lulu: 6/10. Beyond the beginning and the part in Guadosalam, I really felt like she was missing something.
Yuna: 9/10. Very well done, a female lead who isn't constantly depressed and NOT a whore either (your either one or the other in the FF series) for once. A strong character in terms of personality, and she was kind of likable too. Meh, I need to learn how to describe characters better
Kihmari: 4/10. I honestly didn't think much of him, beyond Mt. Gagazet scene. Well, I liked him as himself, just cause Ronso's are cool in general, but as a character, I honestly didn't feel much about him. He seemed a bit too one dimensional, in that he was overly honorable for the sake of protecting Yuna.
Auron: 8/10. Yeah, he's loved more than he should, but he still has a cool personality, and the way he keeps his cool the entire game w/out ever really breaking a fit, and the way it shows how he USE to be all emotional in the past was quite neat. That, and his kind of sarcastic humor adds a few points to him ("That's an Al Bhed post! Besides, I'm not tired yet, ya know?"- Wakka "Well, I am!" -Auron)

Overall: FFX has a solid cast with a few flawed characters, but nothing too drastic to make it bad. One of the good points of the game (though,t o be fair, nearly every point of this game is good...)

Tidus: 90. I didn't think he was all that whiny. I was able to emphasize with him. My biggest complaint was his horrible hair.
Rikku: 40. She should probably score higher, but she honestly annoyed me far too much.
Wakka: 85. I hated his character, but it gives a lot of points for being the most realistic of any of them.
Lulu: 60. Badass with next to no story.
Yuna: 90. Well developed, dimensional character. I feel that I would have liked her more if her VA could pull of tones of conviction, but she was still good as a character.
Kihmari: 10. Well, he did have a couple lines.
Auron: 80. Badass with good amounts of story. As others said, sometimes he was just a badass for the sake of being a badass.
