Here is a claim from New York City. This article was written on the occasion that it was thought he went missing after he rode the bus but that he was thankfully found. Can a 111 year old man still ride the bus? Hmmm...

http://nypost.com/2014/02/21/111-year-old-...de-on-city-bus/

The article states he is to turn 112 on March 6, making his claimed date of birth March 6, 1902.

The only record I can find on him is in the United States Public Records Index, which means he has been claiming 1902 for a while: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K2BZ-2JJ

Is it possible that he could be the oldest man in the world?

"The oldest living man is 115-year-old Japanese national Misao Okawa, according to the Guinness Book of World Records website."

Well this is quite a development! Watch out Kimura!

Here's his son's obituary:

http://www.pirofuneralhome.com/obituaries/...#!/Obituary

Probable 1940 census match:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K3Y7-GSZ

This lists Earnest Peronneau's age as 36, implying a 1904 birth date (which if correct, would still make him a supercentenarian if he makes it to his birthday).

Could this possibly be a marriage record?

This is a good find! But it is a late life document so we need something earlier...

Ok if as per the 1940 census, he was born in South Carolina in 1904, this might be him in the 1920 census: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M6CG-FY6

HAHA this gets even more interesting...this is likely him in the 1910 census, but the last name is garbled: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M5DL-9FV

Clippings from the New York Age, an African American newspaper, during the 1930s include:

That marriage record is interesting because it appears he moved to California at one point...then moved back to New York.

This 1994 obituary of sister, Ellen Peronneau Powell, proves it: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2482...&pg=1524,677941

Ellen was born on October 28, 1906 to Florence H. Spencer Peronneau and James F. Peronneau. Survived by Ernest Peronneau of La Mesa, CA and sister-in-law, Pak Peronneau of La Mesa.

Likely summary of case:

- Ernest Peronneau is born to James and Florence Peronneau in Charleston, South Carolina on March 6 sometime during the 1900's. Likely years are 1902 (current claim) or 1904 (1920 and 1940 census, and 1971 marriage record)
- He has many siblings, including Ellen, born October 28, 1906, died April 24, 1994
- In the 1910 census, he is recorded at the age of 14, which is likely a transcription error
- In the 1920 census, he is recorded at the age of 15, which supports a date of birth of March 6, 1904
- Between the 1920 census and 1931, he moves to New York city and marries Ella Pitts
- They have 2 children, Milton (likely born c. November 1930) and Robert Horace (born April 8, 1932)
- During the 1930's, he and his family are featured several times in The New York Age, an African-American newspaper
- In the 1940 census, he is recorded at the age of 36 (supports birth year of 1904), with his two sons, Milton and Robert. His wife is not listed though he is listed as "married"
- Between 1940 and 1971, they either divorce or Ella dies. Ernest moves to California where he marries Yong H Pak in 1971, a woman 36 years younger than him. He is recorded as age 67, supporting a birth year of 1904.
- In the 1994 obituary of his sister Ellen, he is recorded as living in La Mesa, California
- Between 1994 and sometime in the 2000's, he moves back to New York City, settling in Brooklyn
- In the United States Public Record Index from January 1, 2009, he is recorded as living in Brooklyn and with a date of birth of March 6, 1902
- On July 15, 2013, his son, Robert Horace Peronneau passes away. The obituary lists Ernest as surviving him, and his age is 111 (supporting a birth year of 1902)
- On February 20, 2014, he boards a bus and disappears for 9 hours and he is later found. This makes the media. His claimed age of 111 with a date of birth of March 6, 1902, if verified, would make him older than the currently verified world's oldest male, Arturo Licata of Italy, born May 2, 1902.

On September 14, 2007, he is featured in The Post and Courier, a Charleston, South Carolina based newspaper. There is a photo of him at the age of 105. This was on the occasion of him visiting the old high school he attended more than 80 years previously: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2482...pg=1974,5544540
