These videos prove that she was even more energetic at super advanced ages than I had thought. For instance, I had seen other videos of her 121st birthday, but they did not show her speaking as strongly. In the last video, is she shown at the beginning saying, "One hundred and twenty two years... can anyone beat that?"? I had always imagined her as incredibly frail by her 122nd birthday. In fact, I had heard that her last television appearance was her 121st, but the 122nd birthday cake seems to contradict this.

Oh no, Calment was physically in superb health, until her last few years. At 117 she was as healthy as most supercentenarians are at age 110. And mentally she was very sharp until the end.

I also believe her world record is underestimated. Scientists claim people born today will easily become 130+ years old, but what they forget is that we have a maximum lifespan and no matter how much the average age of humans increase, the maximum lifespan will not increase a lot (Or perhaps will not increase at all!). To be honest, the maximum age of the oldest persons in the 15 years AFTER Calment have not improoved at all. Although we have more and more people reaching age 110+, the number of 115+ remains the same. This means we are reaching a 'cap'. An upper limit of human lifespan. I will not be surprised that without genetic manipulations, the record of Calment will NOT be beaten at all, in the next 100 years.

It's true that the footage doesn't actually show the birthday cake and Calment together in the same shot and yet the surroundings and general atmosphere seem different from her 121st...

Her 'can anyone beat that' question is reported here

Fully agree. The global population should really have been closer to 60 billion in order to accomodate Calment.

This has also been posted on YouTube. Unfortunately my understanding of both German and French is limited. I'm not sure which birthday the footage (which I had never seen before) is taken from, but of course can tell that the news report is about her being 122.

Tomorrow it will be exactly 15 years since Jeanne passed away!

@Makila: Is there was a Jeanne Calment, why couldn't there be a second Jeanne Calment?

So you think there's only one Calment each 100 years?

I really don't know

Would you consider a cure to amyloidosis a genetic manipulation? I think that with a cure to amyloidosis the odds of another woman and even one man surpassing Calment's age go way up. However, even without a cure to amyloidosis I think that at least one woman will surpass Calment's age before 2050. Keep in mind that had Calment died young you would have said that Knauss's record will be unbeatable in the next 100 years, but we know that this is not the case. With more verifications from currently poor countries in the next 40 years, I think that the odds of having someone with amazing genes and with documents will go way up.

It is also possible that this record has been beaten by an SC before or after Calment's passing. It is always possible that there happens too be someone right now who is 122 years, 164+days young. I think that people can live to be as long as they say they're gonna live (like 150, 500, 1000, 9999999999999999.573875, etc) if they set goals to reach those BIG numbers though it's highly unlikely that they will reach the latter.

It's possible that someone without documents already surpassed Calment's age, but it is extremely unlikely.

I could say that I'll live to age 150. Chances are that I won't make it past 105, and I won't even reach age 105 unless I'm extremely lucky.
