Here's a recent news event of an anonymous claim for Canada's oldest living person.

http://cjme.com/story/mystery-woman-oldest...katchewan/66281

The GRG has knowledge of this claim, being that Dr. Coles offers commentary in this news article. It's fantastic that this previously unknown case has surfaced, but there is so little information revealed. Given that her birth date of July 1st could be looked at as questionable (Such as a rounded birth date or immigrant case), this case, in my opinion, could be a long way off from being verified, if ever.

Interesting but her birth date is suspicious. Anonymous case and, maybe, a fake one?

Maybe 3 to 10 years younger. but 113 is still verifiable if there are foolproof records from her youth

I'm inclined to believe that she is real. Anonymity does not mean she does not exist.

Just a FYI: this is based on the Oldest Saskatchewan Residents page on the Government of Saskatchewan's website.

I had seen this birth date mentioned a few months ago, but just seeing a date does not mean much if there is nothing to go on with. This reminds me of Sweden -- they reported the oldest resident "claimed a birth year of 1899".

I would not be surprised if this case was about a real person, but likely an emigrant case from another country.

I am just glad to see a lot of news coverage on this -- I now believe the government is going to do an internal investigation on this case.

I'm surprised the Canadian government is being involved with who the oldest person is within their country. Is it to see if she is real or a fraudulent case like Sogen Kato?

There was something similar 3 years ago in the province of Quebec. A man was in the records of the Ministry of Health. He was 112. Never heard about that case again. Maybe he is still alive at 114 or 115 biggrin.gif

I have heard that the woman in the article was still alive at her 111th birthday this year.

Thank you for that old article, bac211.

I see that you had posted her 110th birthday article that appeared last fall in this post.

You had called her nursing home last year to confirm that she was alive. The article you mentioned last fall confirms her birthday to be June 28th, not June 30th.

Can you find out about her 111th birthday this past June 28th? I see that a Danish blogger wishes her a 111th birthday here, but that appears just to be an old picture of Gloriam Bellerive-Hébert.

Since she is 111+, I believe GRG will take a look at this case sooner than later.

This article supposedly confirms her to be alive at 113. Also, it has a supposed picture of her. However, no name was given.

That's not her, it's just a stock photo of an old Indian woman. They really just plagiarized the article DHanson linked to and tacked on some more plagiarized content about Blue Zones. You can see that the Stephen Coles quote was pulled directly from the original article with no source given. No original content there, just lazy blogging (and poor editing..."centurion", really?).

I see that it was last updated on March 1, but that could either mean that the oldest man and woman are both still alive ("no news is good news") or that the records don't get updated very often. Do you think the Ministry of Health would automatically report the death of the province's oldest person, or could that take some time? I guess we're meant to assume that this woman made it to 113 just because there hasn't been a report of her death (as the cjme.com article says, "The ministry says if someone dies, it takes a few weeks for a record to reflect the death"), but that's a leap I don't want to make, seeing as we probably can't research her death record on our own without knowing her name. Are ghost cases common in Canada?

Well thanks for the heads up about that. I had a feeling it was fake.
