Hi all,

we are January 22, 2012.

There are two known supercentenarian deaths so far for January 2012 (Mrs. Sagor Maas and mrs. Narbonne) which is not much for a January month.

here in western Europe, the flu has not (yet) struck and the winter is pretty soft

What could be other reasons?

The lack of knowledge of (japanese) supercentenarian deaths?

which season is it in USA/Japan right now?

Indiana's winter, thus far, has been very mild. It also seems to be much more variable than in the past. For example, a couple days ago, we got freezing rain, 5 inches of snow, and it was zero degrees fahrenheit. Tommorow, it is forecasted to be forty degrees fahrenheit and rainy. For the most part, though, winter has been warmer than usual.

The lowest it's dipped to over the whole winter where I live is -1C, which is pretty ridiculous for this time of year. Last year was much harsher - one day reached a maximum of -11C here. Probably that will have a knock on effect on infections at this time of year.

Perhaps there have already been more deaths but we have not yet found out about them. I'd be surprised looking at past statistics if these 2 are the only 2 to die so far in a month with a traditionally high death toll like January. We will have to wait and see.

Of course, not all of the world has been warm this winter. In Greece, it's been really cold (relatively speaking)>

I wonder if it's because I'm using Firefox to keep the world warm. I use to use Internet Explorer.

Feedback from the Southern Hemisphere.

In Australia, it appears as though the summer has been cooler than normal. Where I am, in the 20s rather than the 30s.

-24 C in the northern part of Greece. That's almost record breaking.

Thats very geographically interesting to read about the temperature in you areas of residence!

When I was in Florida earlier this month, the first days it was 26 C/ 85F

It was stunning for me to be able to walk around outside in shorts and flipflops on new years eve

When I returned to canada to such cold weather, I accually said "what the hell mother nature, come on!"

Lol.........:'( .........i miss Florida

Does really a cold winter affect in the negative our SCs? How many SCs do you usually see mounting winter tires in their snowy driveways? December was a tough month, and after a tough month, we are usually left with a smaller group in better shape.
