Do you think that jeanne calment's record will ever be broken? She is currently the oldest verified person ever, died at age 122...what are the chances that someone will succeed her and take the record away after many years!? Or is her record one of those that will never be passed? Because today the oldest supercenaterians is 114..that is 8 years short!

Possibly. There's obviously no way to tell,

Also, Calment did not only live to 122, but for almost 6 more months as well!

My thought be yes. Eventual.
Delina Filkins, of 113 years in year 1928 was oldest ever to reach that age for very longest of time, and had Katherine PLunket & Louisa Theiers not a lot younger. But somebody did get over her. I believe that one day in future, the same to happen for Jeanne Calment.

I believe she will be succeeded. Advances in medical technology keep improving and I believe we'll be able to keep having people live even longer.

I believe that she will eventually be succeeded, but not until advances in life extension technology make it possible for people to live much longer lifespans that Calment's age becomes commonplace. 122 currently is just such an incredible achievement and so near impossible an age to duplicate naturally that I fear we won't see it ever again until if and when science makes it much more humanely possible. I could still be wrong of course, but I think that it's incredibly unlikely otherwise.

The real question should be, "will Calment's age be exceeded in our lifetime"?

No record lasts forever, even though it is the most extraordinary observation for 200+ years of centenarian data.

"Will Jeanne Calment ever be succeeded?"

The answer is most definitely yes.

Robert Young is correct, the real question should be WHEN! biggrin.gif

I think someone born between 1900 and 1910 can surpass calment's age so yes that could be in our lifetime. as for the total number of centenarians ever no one also knows. probably 500,000 as there is an estimated 300,000 living centenarians today

I would probably say there are over 1 million of them, though that's still a wild guess.

With 300,000 centenarians alive today, I find it hard to believe that there are only 200,000 other centenarians who are deceased.

A woman recently died in Singapore at 104.

A man where I lived just died at 104...

In the future, I see life-extension technologies extending life and improving the quality of life as well. I believe Jeanne Calment's record will be succeded. That just leaves us with the question of when. It also brings up a question I have been pondering for a while now. In the future, if I had the oppurtunity to extend my life a considerable amount, would I get the procedure or treatment?

The issue of extending one's life brings up many moral and religious questions. I am a christian, and I would probably feel quite a bit of apprehension upon extending my life past its natural limit. After several of these procedures, one must wonder: how much of your original body is left. The body that you were born with and lived a majority of your life with. Just my two cents...

That's fine though, because she was a woman! tongue.gif
