When I saw "Jiroemon Kimura, 1897-", I thought he was dead...

The photo of Kimura you asked for checking on is probably correct, though obviously not the nicest of photos (I wonder what the photographer was thinking...). He's wearing the same clothes as he did when receiving his Guinness certificate in September 2011.

Okay, I removed that photo. I am sure, that he was doing some exercise, so I posted it. But on the other hand, the viewer who has no idea of Kimura's way of life might think that he stumbled and fell or became ill. So i decided to remove that photo as soon as I realized it. Thanks

If he would have died, it would have been in the news and in the Deaths thread.
Oh, and this is my 1897th post. :)

Mr Kimura always surprise us, for 115 years it has formidably, we can expect great things of Mr. Kimura, will certainly be the first man to reach 116 years old, probably the oldest person in the history of Japan

Has anyone noticed that for nearly every age from 110 to 115, there is at least one image of him with his hands together and his fingertips touching those of the other hand? I wonder what the significance is...

Very perceptive, Brendan.
See Japanese hand gestures:
http://lov-e.com/RLSArticlesfolder/JBL4.htmlhttp://www.ispeakjapanese.net/videos/commo...e-hand-gesture/The gesture you are alluding to is a variant of the konnichiwa (hello) Japanese body language, see
http://cff.ssw.net/misc/langauge.htmTo quote:
“Hello/konnichiwa — Right and left hand fingers splayed, touching each other at the tips forming the shape of a triagular cylinder, gesture is made with the fingers pointing upward and rotating downward until pointing at the recipient of the greeting.”No matter which language we speak or which culture we come from, we all have them. For those who are very perceptive, actually it can tell us where someone comes from.

It appears that Kimura is a ladies' man even at age 115.7! :D (Please don't punish me for this statement--I was making a joke
complimenting Kimura. I do not mean any disrespect to anyone.)

I corrected Futurist's dates.
I think what's important here is that these photos are from December 2012...we can see that Mr. Kimura is not as sprightly as the images from his 115th birthday party, but neither do we see him bedridden and unable to move.
So, if he pulls through his latest hospitalization (he is likely to stay through the end of the year), I wouldn't be surprised to see him reach 116.

If he really is. And I do hope he really is the age he claims to be.

I fully agree. Judging by the background he appears to still be hospital but he certainley seems happy.
This makes me even more confident that he will reach 116.

This picture of him really scares me. Us it just me or does the purity of his face and strength of his mouth, seem very simmilar to Izumi's arms in his :115" picture :(

I agree he doesn't look 115... but then again, what does 115 look like? I don't think we can really tell.
Gijs - April 14, 2013 07:57 AM (GMT)
He does look 115 years old, have you seen the pictures from earlier this year, he has aged very much.
All you people with your conspiracy-theories, mr. Kimura is 115 untill it is officialy proven he is not.

I completely agree. Mr Kimura looks quite a lot older in the more recent photos than he did on his 115th birthday(although he still looks good for 115)! I suspect when/if we see him on Friday he will have aged even more!
And Mr Kimura is almost 116 years old, as far as I know at present there isn't any evidence to suggest otherwise!

There was also no evidence that Kamato Hongo was not 116 years old when she died before she got double-checked. However, once she got double-checked, her age was discovered to have likely been inflated and that she was actually 108-112 (but possibly more likely 110-112) when she died.

Maybe he was double-checked already, and maybe he was not. Maybe he was double-checked already, but not as thoroughly as he should be. I really don't know.

One year ago I posted a set of Jiroemon's photos with dates. I searched all over Internet to find more or less reliable information about dates of photographs.
http://z3.invisionfree.com/The_110_Club/in...post&p=22003353According to furnishings and Jiroemon's clothes, the most likely date of recording - September 2009.
