Jiroemon looks that even on his 115th b-day was in amazing shape! What's his current condition?I 've heard that he's fortunately with us,but what's about his health?Hopefully he will become second oldest man ever in 6 days from now...

It appears Kimura was hospitalized in july for an undisclosed reason but he has recovered from it since. As a result however, I think he lost a little bit of weight (you can see it in his neck)

This has been discussed in one of the Top Ten section's topics! He has just been hospitalized to make some medical exams, in order to verify if everything's okay or not. Hopefully, everything was in order!

Who was he/she?

It was a she and her name is Grace F. she lives about 10 minutes away from my house. She told me about what life was like for her on a farm in the rural south in the 1910s-'20s, working through the depression, World War II (she later met her husband after he ame back from fighting (in the Mediterreanian, I believe) and during the rest of her life. Her secret to her longevity was to 'dance' [also to eat and take exercise classes provided by the retirement center that she spent her last 28 years living in it (since it was built)]. As for her diet (unlike Kimura's) she would eat grits, eggs and bacon and dwould drink OJ, water, milk or coffee. As for lunch or dinner she told me that "they have different things everyday." (I wonder what :)) She even said that she enjoys dessert and will somethimes eat cake deending on the type that would be served at the retirement home.

Yeah, he does look a bit like Chuganji in that picture, which is ironic as Chuganji is the man Jiroemon surpassed to become the oldest Japanese man ever :D

He isn't smiling because clearly he does NOT want to be in the hospital, buddy! If you were in your hospital recovering from your illness and not being able to come home for a few days, being without family, of course you wouldn't smile either. :P

but Jiroemon looks pretty good. Declined a bit since the last few photos released before december, but very elated to see the man still with us currently. I would really hope that he makes it to 116, we could really use at least one SC man eclipse that milestone for the first time ever. Think we are a little overdo. prayers and wishes for this man, of course. He is one of my favorites, along with besse cooper (still sad she didnt make 2013..but oh well, thats life. She had been declining tremendously)

He might not look 115 but then again Shelby Harris, James McCoubrey, Catherine Masters, Tomoji Tanabe, Yoshio Nakagawa, et cetera didn't look like they are ages 110+ either. It's hard to have a set look for people aged 110+ since so few people actually manage to live to this age.

Agreed.

In hospital one doesnt always feel "yourself"
Also in Japan it is apparently not very polite to photograph people in the hospital, so maby thats why he is not smiling, nor he want to be rude and refuse a photo..he maby feel "Okay..lets do it, I am afterall now the WOM ever.."

Is this a young Jiroemon Kimura?

When I searched for images of Jiroemon using his native name this photo came up along with some of the Kimura we are familiar with.

I looked at the above photo alongside a photo of Kimura and I noticed that the young boy's smile is very similar to Kimura's (i.e. the shape of his mouth) as is the shape of his nose. His facial features are very similar too, his ears can't really be compared as when one is elderly one's ears are somewhat bigger as they keep growing.

What are the thoughts of others?

Same gender, both Asian. Both extremely old. So I dont think it is abnormal he starts looking the same. ;)

lncredible, l didn't know there were any young photos of Kimura available. That definitly looks like him. What age could he have been in this pic? 11-12?

Alas, the boy in the photo isn't Jiroemon. It comes from this blog:

The caption says "安樂兼道警視総監の孫、徳郎君", which translates to something like "Grandson of Commissioner 樂兼 road safety, Kimi Tokuro."

Oh well, never mind! He certainly has strong similarities to Kimura and what he could have looked like as a young man!
I should have looked more into it before posting but I didnt have time, yet couldn't resist posting incase it was him!

I agree.

I have noticed that in many of his picture, he have the hands hear between them (I think it's a Japanese attitude)...

Anyway until december, he was very very well (I don't know how Mortensen was when he died...Does anyone know this?)

I believe it was a mistake to allow the media to take pictures on his 116th birthday. However I somehow have the impression it was Kimura himself who insisted that visitors should be allowed. He was just .. that kind of person.

Well or unwell, visitors were holy to him and it was part of who he was ..
