Title: last WW1 vet
longevitydude - August 4, 2009 07:20 PM (GMT)
i think it will be Frank Buckles by a lot of years, hes younger than one of them and looks in much better shape. But i think the other two will be around for a few more months at least.

Mr. buckles seems to be in slightly better shape then the others, but Babcock seems like a contender 2. even at 109, he seems to be in good shape.

Yes he does look like hes got a few good months in him, He might even make it to 2010,that's a good goal for him. Maybe even Stanley will make it to 2010. I know Frank Buckles will.

Im saying buckles will probably reach 2010, but you never know, most people thought Tanabe would reach 115+, but he deceased at "only" 113. On the other side Del toro, was described as dieing at 112, and reached 115.

like i said earlier, the will to live plays a big part in how long people live, life is full of surprises, you never know what can happen.
PS you're very smart
firefire - August 4, 2009 09:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah will does play a big role in how long a person lives, Sarah knauss at 107, knew she wasnt going to died at time soon, and she was right, she lived another 12 years. Allingham, also had a huge will to live. Tanabe is an exception though, he seemed to be in such good health, and he said he wanted forever at 112th, and then he said another 10 years at 113, but after his 113th birthday, his health steadily declined, and then in May he was bedridden, and that next month he deceased. will doesnt always conquer health

sometimes it does i depends on how much someone is willing to fight their health problem someone it kills their will to live and they just let it kill them.

exactly correct, there have been countless occasions where super-cs have rallied back from pneumonia, and on a couple occasions a broken hip. But sometimes, they cant fight it, like Hendrye Van Andel, had Gastric cancer, and she knew was going in fact she sad something like "the man upstairs says its time to go" so she sort of gave up.

no one lives forever and by a certain point people realize they cant fight something and they accept that its their time.
SiameseTurtle - August 4, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
He's actually Claude Choules. Stanley is his middle name.

Making up another name is MORE confusing. And why so many posts?

very true, I think a person stops "fighting" when they either know there are definitely not going to "Win", or they just lose their will to live.

I think Babcock will be the last. He has a much younger wife to entertain and it is his secret/key to keep going. :)

yeah, you may be right, its seems like a pretty close race between Babcock and mr. Buckles. Claude's wife just died sort of recently in 2006, after 80 years of marriage.
longevitydude - August 5, 2009 12:28 PM (GMT)
you all have good points, i think Claude Stanley and John Babcock will be a close call but buckles will live a few more months.i wonder how much the wives, however, do play a factor in how long these men live.

He is also the only veteran left that fought both in both WWI and WWII, and he is the last seaman.

Robert is right, this isnt top ten, so can this thread be moved to the WW1 section, thats where it belongs?
thank you for moving it to its proper section.

the 135 year old claim is the only unrealistic one, but the claims should be debunked to shut the liars up, or the unexpected, someone beating the frenchy, we should look into all the cases we never know what we can find.
SiameseTurtle - April 4, 2010 11:11 PM (GMT)
There's no evidence yet that Henry Johnson served during WWI.

your right, thats why hes unverified, anyway, i think frank buckles will outlast all of them, though green might have a chance.
clark kent - April 5, 2010 12:43 PM (GMT)
yes it's either florence green or douglas terry if terry would be verified

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lennart_R%C3%B6nnbackheres someone younger than terrey who was a ww1 era veteran, and there are some veterans of WW1 who were born in 1903, so its possible that terrey is a ww1 vet.
clark kent - April 5, 2010 02:03 PM (GMT)
yeah but ronnback passed away already. so the youngest living might be terry douglas right?

i was pointing out that there were people younger than him who are veterans of the era and the war so we shouldnt discount him because of his age.
clark kent - April 5, 2010 02:07 PM (GMT)
ah yes we should not discount him. just hope he'll be verified before he dies.
SiameseTurtle - April 5, 2010 02:08 PM (GMT)
I would be pretty shocked if Florence Green died before 110. I think she will be the last veteran (assuming more aren't found anyway).

if terrey gets verified, than frank buckles probably wont be the last male veteran, because of green he already wont be THE last one, there will probably be claiments for the next 10 years, its cool when new ones are discovered, it keeps the veterans from going extinct, new ones may be discovered someday, i think green will be the last one, and buckles will be the last verified male veteran unless terrey gets verified.
green will probably be a super c, she will probably be the last, but i hope buckles also lives to be 110.

we didnt expect john babcock or harry patch or bill stone to die, those deaths were surprising, but we didnt expect calude choules to still be alive.
