Do you know who is second oldest person in holland after Grietje Jansen-Anker?

I wonder if there are some anonymous cases from the Netherlands aged 108+? Because their oldest person is Grietje Jansen Anker, who turns 112 next month. Second on the list is now Bertha van Hasselt who is more than 4 years(!!!) younger than Grietje and who is barely 107 years old.
In Belgium we do not have such gap. Our oldest is turning 111 this year and we have currently more than 10 people(!!) on the 108+ age list, who are currently still alive. Belgium is less crowded then the Netherlands and we are their neighbour. So it is hard for me to believe that Grietje is their ONLY person older than age 108.

There are probably some anonymous cases in the Netherlands, it is possilble that there is one other person who is at least 108. Just recently Grietje Jansen Anker became the oldest at 108. There have been also four Super-c deaths, in the past year and half.
SiameseTurtle - August 9, 2009 02:14 AM (GMT)
England & Wales has around 100 people over 107 and the Netherlands has a population around 1/3 of that. Assuming they have the same rates (and I don't see why not), it does seem a very low number for the Netherlands.
firefire - August 9, 2009 04:41 AM (GMT)
I am pretty sure there is some one in the Netherlands, around 109-110 out there somewhere, there are around seven 107 year-olds. If they dont get reported, they will probably become known when Grietje Jansen Anker dies. If there really inst anyone 107+, its just a quirk of statistics.

Updates.
Bernardina Van Dommelen is reported in excellent health as of 08/26/09
Maria Ledent is reported in weak but stable health as of 08/19/09
Gabriëlle Demets is reported in excellent health as of 08/26/09
No news about Romanie Pollet at this point, but I assume she is doing just fine as Belgian's oldest.

wow, mostly all good news, I see Belgium breaking some records in the next few years.
makila - August 27, 2009 09:12 PM (GMT)
They already did break a record. 4 living Belgian Supercentenarian's at the same time. You know what the record was before? 1! (At one point a supercentenarian died one day before the 110th birthday of another Belgian, but we never had 2 or more living at the same time and now we have 4 all of a sudden)
Okay, Maria Ledent and Gabriëlle Demets are not validated yet, but I have sufficient documents to claim, they are 110+ with 100% certainty.
I am only a little worried about Maria Ledent. She surely is the weakest of these 4 supercentenarian's. 111 will be a stretch for her. The other 3, are all able to reach age 111, I think, if they do not become ill. Of course you never really know for sure. Supercentenarian's can go downhill fast.

3 are fully validated now.
We are still missing the ID card of Maria Ledent. It should come, but Maria's family needs to find some time to mail it. The birth and marriage certificate confirms she turned 110 last june.

its seems like the older two are healthier than the younger two. This is truly remarkable for Belgium. over the next few months, Belgium may have a record 5 super-cs, and their oldest person Romaine pollets will be 111.

It is not that surprising.
You have to keep in mind, Luxembourg is very small. There are <500000 people living in Luxemburg and that is it.(More than 20x less then Belgium which is already a small country!) The chances someone turns 110 is not entirely impossible but extremely low.
|
I'm not sure how many supercentenarians to expect, but look at for example the nordic countries, all of which have had decent statistics over the years. Including emigrants, wikipedia lists 39 supercentenarians, and the current population is roughly 25 millions. If the numbers are correct, we would expect a (alltime) supercentenarian per roughly 600000 people. Although this is a bit rough, it might give some sort of estimate. It would also mean some 10000 supercentenarians "ever" worldwide which could possibly be a bit high, but even so not entirely out there. Because of this, 0 SC in a country with 500000 is well within the expected.
SiameseTurtle - September 25, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
Guernsey only has a population of 40000 and had Margaret Ann Neve. Another resident died not too long ago just less than 2 weeks short of 110.
There have been 3 supercentenarians from Chesterfield, England - a town of population of around 100000.
500000 is a fairly large population - similar to a city. It's probably just a matter of time. Do you know who the oldest resident in Luxembourg is?

I dont expect a Super-c to living there now, but I would expect that there at least a few Super-cs, with in the past few decades. I also think that they would probably be validated because It probably has great records, at least Belgium and the Netherlands have some of the best records.

I have no idea who the oldest person is, in Luxemburg. I do not think we have any correspondent from Luxemburg on WOP right now.
And about your examples. Now you are talking about exceptions. I will start too then. The oldest Belgian lives in Ganshoren, aged 110.5. And Ganshoren also has the 2d oldest Belgian Male(!) who is aged 105.5 and there are only 21000 people living there.
On the other hand. In Belgium on 10.5 million people we just have 4 supercentenarian's. Or 1 supercentenarian on 2.5 million people(!)
So just taking digits to compare is maybe a bad idea. It depends on environment, luck, .. and many other factors.
|
the thing is, Luxembourg is a mixing pot, it has 3 official languages: French, German, and Luxembourgish. It seems like Luxembourgish is closer to German than Dutch.

Romanie Pollet keeps surprising me. She sits in a wheelchair since age 100 and could no longer walk since. But nearly 11 years later, she is still alive. She will probably make it to age 111 which would make her the 4th oldest Belgian ever.
And our oldest people are moving up the list fast. Our oldest living male Joannes Goossenaerts is now the 3th oldest male ever, from our country, at the age of 108 years and 340 days. :)
We also have a big age bubble here at Belgium, with 4 supercentenarian's(3 completed and one semi-validated), with a 5th one joining them soon. |
Marie-simone capony whi died at 113 1/2 was in a wheelchair since 100.....I also think gertrude baines was in a wheelchair since around 100.

Do no worry, the age bubble in belgium will also collapse one day. But I think with 14 108 years old(15 in fact according to Michel, but I count 14), I do not think the oldest from Belgium will drop under age 108 any time soon.
