Description: This man has potensial!

This is one of my favorite American centenarians. He will celebrate his 110th on 17th August. He was born in Brazil, but now livesin Arizona, USA. Read this articles and you will understand why i like this man.

And the videos of him at 109 and 108 is impressive

This man is a probable fake. We have reason to believe he is younger than claimed by several years. See the WOP message board for more information.

Also note he is being used to promote longevity products.

On second thought, maybe we didn't post the information on the WOP group.

However, the U.S. Public Records Index lists him as born several years later (I think it was 1910). Do a search on Ancestry.com.

Yes, I also think he's fake. Not only he doesn't look anywhere near 110 (he doesn't even look 100, but that's way more likely), but like ryoung said, he has a strong reason to exaggerate his age (apart from vanity).

Let's be realistic here. His U.S. Public Records Index suggests he is 10 years younger than claimed, and he's being used to sell books, longevity potions, whatever else.

He looks so good for his age, but is 109 his age? What if he is just 99? Even that could be exaggerated too...where are the records?

The 104th birthday article helped the most (published 19 Aug 2005)...

It mentioned the following:

*living in a Mesa apartment
*reporter saw one trophy on LaPallo's shelf honoring him for 20 years of service for his work as a chef on cruise lines. LaPallo got the trophy in 1957.
*Born Aug. 17, 1901, in Brazil
*LaPallo and family moved to the United States at age 5
*he was raised in New York and Philadelphia
*Educated at a prestigious culinary arts school in Paris
*His father lived to be 97. His mother lived to be 105.
*Georgette, his wife of 46 years
*About a year ago, the couple moved from North Carolina to a modest Mesa apartment

Based on those information, I found a SSDI match of his wife:

Social Security Death Index
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll...4968796&indiv=1

Name: Georgette Lapallo
SSN: 068-14-8250
Last Residence: 85202 Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona
Born: 20 Jun 1922
Died: 27 Apr 2009
State (Year) SSN issued: New York (Before 1951)

I also find a public record of the LaPallo's living in New York:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll...4553184&indiv=1

Name: Georgette Lapallo
Phone Number: 424-6101
Address: 7210 41st Ave Apt 7f, Flushing, NY, 11377-3006 (1992)
[72 10th Av 41, Jackson Hgts, NY, 11570 (1979)]
[72 10th Av 41, Jackson Hgts, NY, 11356 (1979)]

This is the public record that mentions his birth date of 17 Aug "1910":

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll...3063188&indiv=1

Name: Bernando Lapallo
Birth Date: 17 Aug 1910
Address: 7210 41st Ave, Flushing, NY, 11377-3056

This Ancestry.com public family tree actually shows quite a bit of interesting information about his relatives such as his first wife's name (and where he was born in Brazil):

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/5685291/person/-1413487349

However, it does not provide any census matches, and it is little confusing when it says that his mother, born Mattie Carr, was born in North Carolina and died in Pennsylvania. This seems to suggest that she married Bernando LaPallo Sr (father) and had one son (our Bernando LaPallo Jr) in Brazil then they changed minds and moved back to New York City (and later Philadelphia)?

The Ancestry.com public family tree listed above shows that the "home person" is Bernando LaPallo's daughter (Lee LaPallo Chamberlin)'s late husband (Daniel Chamberlin; 1932-1999)'s living brother (Stanley Chamberlin).

Bernando LaPallo's daughter, Lee Chamberlin, was an actress and now a writer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Chamberlin
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0150184/
Daughter's name mentioned in Bernando LaPallo's video entry

She was born in NYC on 14 Feb 1938. (Bernando has said he has 4 children).

Based on that family tree, her mother was Ida Roberta Small (31 May 1911-22 Mar 1991; the parents must have divorced but she kept Bernando's last name in her SSDI record here). That family tree said Ida Small's parents were "Robert & Ella Small" and that she was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

When I looked for Ida Small in 1930 Census based on parents' names above, she was not yet married to Bernando LaPallo:

1930 United States Federal Census
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll...2031047&indiv=1
Asbury Park, Monmouth County, New Jersey, USA

Robert Small Head 55
Ella Small Wife 55
Ida Small Daughter 18 single

What does this mean? Nothing to help or disprove anything, really. Bernando LaPallo and Ida Small may have married in the 1930's.

Just that his 1st wife was born 1911 so it "lends credence" that Bernando may be born in 1910 rather than 1901 (but nothing to disprove that he could have been 10 years older).

While we're at it, where did the "list of debunked supercentenarian claimants" on Wikipedia go?

Another example of Wiki-holism damaging the educational content it purports to support.

So this guy is most likely a centenarian but NOT a supercentenarian.

Futurist - November 22, 2011 03:43 AM (GMT)
He might very well be 101, but he looks too young even for a centenarian. If he really is 101, then I think he has good chances of reaching age 110 nine years from now.
