did she undergo surgery? if she did and her age claim is true then n that would make her the oldest person to ever undergo a surgery. is she still alive?

I found a youtube video of an interview with Elzira Rogelin (shown in the first post), in 2004 when she was 111. It shows her ID with the same birthdate as alleged on the hospital record in 2009. So this should confirm that this person is actually claiming to be that old, with that date of birth.

Greetings,

I've been informed by a Brazilian source that Elzira Rogelin Morreu passed away Aug 22 2009 at the claimed age of 115 years 343 days.

IF this case were validated, she would have been the WOP from Nov 26 2008 until her death...taking up most of Gertrude Baines's time with the title.

However, we only see late-life documentation so far.

athyon - May 24, 2011 01:11 AM (GMT)
So this means she passed away two months after her broken hip surgery. I will update the case on these findings.

Thanks for posting the death notice for the Brazilian longevity claimant Elzira Rogelin Morreu, deceased as of August 22, 2009, at the age of 115 years and 343 days, and who was allegedly born on September 13, 1893.

Descanse em paz.

Even with extreme longevity claims it is important that death notices be posted for the record.

Correction: Maria de Jesus was born Sept 10 1893; this woman would have been world's oldest from Jan 2 2009 until Aug 22 2009, should her case be verified.

That would take up most of Gertrude Baines's title reign, but not completely eclipse her.

Still, validation is by no means certain in this case. The fact the documents shown were issued in late life may indicate that the early-life documents either don't exist or will be difficult to find.

RankBrasil has the phone number for the grandson of Elzira Rogelin, that the source provided, and are now contacting him. Perhaps there will be new light shed on this case in the near future.

ryoung122 - May 25, 2011 01:39 AM (GMT)
I've been told that "morreu" means "died"...we all make mistakes, mine was in Portuguese!

athyon - May 26, 2011 11:52 PM (GMT)
RankBrasil has spoken with the grandson, and he is sending them documents. To what extent these documents will be is currently unknown.

Elzira Rogelin was mentioned in the news last month. Some information revealed is the name of her grandson, and that she had 13 children. Also mentioned was that documents to substantiate her age are intended to be forwarded to Guinness.

I've found a website for one of Elzira Rogelin's grandsons, included was a photo of her at age 113, which is now included above. http://www.portalchapeco.com.br/rogelin/ffamilia.htm

Athyon:

Instead of updating old posts, please post new ones. Now my comment about her death looks ridiculous...until one notices you amended your Feb 7 comment in May.

It's message board courtesy to post NEW information in NEW posts, editing should only be used to fix errors or delete inappropriate material.

athyon - June 26, 2011 03:12 AM (GMT)
Understandable, I'll do that from now on.

In the meantime I embedded the date I updated that post to avoid further confusion.

There are a few topics that should be understood that I continue modifying the original posts, such as 'Claims from Brazil/China/etc.' for obvious reasons (to prevent disorganization in those topics, which contain large numbers of supercentenarian claims, posted in chronological birth order). However, so that it is known to everyone, updates in those topics are informed within the supercentenarian table topics.

But for all other topics, especially on individuals, such as this one, it does seem more prudent to post new information in new posts.

It is important to post any updates so the articles on Wiki can be updated. It is more convenient for me or anyone else.
