So close and yet so far away. Before me, as far as I can see, yet I can not go there, it is not my place to be. It it no one's place to be. No living soul will ever go there, no lving soul can ever go their. All living souls want to go there. It is a place of great beauty, I can see that. It is my greatest wish, my greatest desire, to walk there, untroubled. No heed for the dangers. No dangers. Alas, it is but a dream.
Vaya looked down upon the fields. It was getting late already, she had to go, but it hurt. It hurt leaving the fields behind, even if she had never been there. The fields were surrreal. She could see them, yet she could not go there. It was forbidden. It has always been forbidden. She turned back, casting one last look over her shoulder, towards her village she went. It was not far from here. If she hurried, she could make it back to the village before nightfall. the sun was already setting, making the grey rocks look as if on fire. The whole world was seemingly covered in a fiery blanket, the blanket of Selor. Selor watched over them, watched over their homes, over their lives. Selor protected them like neither Omvyor nor Darmonyor had ever managed. Selor and Zelfae, the sun and the moon. Vaya stroked the little brass symbols that hung around her neck. A sun and a moon. She thought about the small abbey in her town. It was the pride of the village, a large building, completely made out of stone. It was partly hewn from the mountainside and it had been founded in the distant days of Golaeon III of Darmon. Ever since its founding, it had been a monastery. First in the service of Darmonyor, but as time passed, more and more icons of Selor and Zelfae were brought into the temple. Darmonyor didn't watch for them, Zelfae did. The people from the village didn't consider themselves Darmoní anymore anyway. The forest, the court of the Prince, they were too far away. They could not feel its influence. they only felt the presence of the massive Mountains of the Moon around them. The Mountains of Zelfae, hence the worship. The Princes of the Darmoní court weren't too worried about the change of worship. Zelfae and Selor were respected gods within the forest too. They were Elven gods, they had to be worshipped as part of their Elf-being. |

Something was wrong, she knew it the moment she saw smoke rising from her village. She began to walk faster. It was too much smoke for any normal campfire, far too much. Even before she saw, she realised what was wrong. The village was aflame, it had been set on fire. A group of Kanh rogues had overcome the Elven sentries. Now they were pillaging the village. In horror, Vaya grabbed the hilt of her sword and pulled it out of the simple scabbard. There were not a lot of them, she assumed most had been slain by the sentries. She began to run, sword in hand, but fileld with fear. She did not fear battle, no, she feared that the Kanh knew of the great treasure that was held in the monastery.

With sword drawn, she ran down towards the village. She didn't care if the Kanh outnumbered her. These were the smaller of Kanh, she could take them on. She hoped.
The Kanh looked surprised. They hadn't expected to see another one of the Elvenkin, at least not alive. Their beady eyes looked in horror at the female Elf that came their way, preparing for slaughter. They took out their etched blades once again, in the confidence that one more dead Elf wouldn't hurt. Vaya ran straight t the first Kanh she saw, a smaller, but quite well armoured critter who wielded two short blades. The Kanh was surprised by the speed at which the female Elf struck and coupled with the longer arms of Vaya, soon found his head rolling away from his body. The Kanh were more careful now, they had seen the skill the Elf had shown didn't want to end up like old Aiçell. None of them wanted to take the offensive, so they waited until the Elf attack. |
