Karite landed in the East Suburbs and closed his eyes. The first thing he was taught in Reaper School was to never close your eyes when an enemy was nearby, but never one for rules, Karite tuned in to the largest amount of soul energy he could find. Found it. That's my hollow. The largest amount of spirit energy I can sense. "I'm going to avenge you; mother, father. Both of you can now rest in peace."
Karite jumped upon the roof of the nearby house and began to run in the direction of the soul energy. As he neared, Karite began to hear the howl of the hollow. It was a loud, long, empty cry of a beast that wanted to die. Karite landed on a rooftop overlooking a grim scene. A large spider-like hollow was bent over a group of two or three people in the center of a culdesac. Karite drew his blade with a loud ring and jumped down behind the hollow.
"I've found you. After years of searching, I have found you. I am Karite, the Grim Reaper of the 8th Division of the Soul Society. And I am about to reap you." Karite brought his sword back and rushed the hollow from behind. When he was close enough, he launched himself into the air and brought down his blade upon the top of the hollow's head. It rang out with a resonating crunch, when the hollow's skull was cracked in half.
When the front of the hollow's face fell off, Karite was only half surprised that he had missed a 1-hit KO. The hollow turned showing a now human face that Karite did not recognize. It was time to do battle. Karite hopped backward several steps to give himself room in case he wasn't well prepared to fight.
The hollow rushed forward and reached Karite's position in two large loping steps. Picking up one of it's claw-like hands, the hollow struck down where Karite was standing. When the dust settled, the hollow was caught off-balance when it saw Karite standing about a foot to the left of its claw. Karite swung his sword and caught the beast's claw at the joint.
He pulled backward hoping to yank off the claw, but the hollow was smarter than to let this assailant take off its foot. It pulled the claw up out of the ground and clenched the joint closed. This effectively pinched off Karite's blade and he was stuck. Well, this does not look good for me. Obviously, it's going to attack again, but when and where?
While he had been pondering this, the hollow did attack again, from Karite's back. The claw pierced into Karite's arm and stuck. Looking over his shoulder with a look of mocking disgust, Karite said, "Is that all you got? Then I guess it's time to stop fooling around and finish you off. Gai! Extend!"
The blade caught in the hollow's claw began to shiver with power. All of a sudden, the handle shot out and lengthened and the blade curned even more turning into an actual scythe. Karite smirked, he pulled back on the blade again as swiftly as he could and lopped off the hollow's leg.
The hollow howled in pain and pulled its claw back out of Karite's arm. It began to throb where he had been stabbed, but he'd deal with that later. The hollow began to stumble backwards trying to get away, but Karite didn't give it one piece of ground. He swung the scythe in a wide killer arc that hit the hollow in the side of the head. Again dodging a death blow, the hollow instead began to scream because Gai had given it a vision of hell. The hollow then turned tail and ran. Karite began chasing. "I'm not giving up!"
