Friendly: Lancaster City 1 Dundee 2

Jul 8 2012 By Sean Hamilton

MATT LOCKWOOD insists the Dark Blues’ pre-season trip down south has helped keep their heads screwed on amid talk of a return to the top flight.

The Englishman has enjoyed a career spanning 17 years including stints at Nottingham Forest and QPR.

But Lockwood – who has signed on for a third year at Dens Park – revealed he has never experienced anything like the madness of late.

The 35-year-old said: “It’s been good to get away for a few days to be honest. You try to ignore what’s going on.

“But when you’ve got the papers full of talk about what’s going to happen to us and people texting you to say, ‘Congratulations on promotion’, that makes it difficult.

“You can’t help but get caught up in it a little bit. So it’s nice to escape it – even if it is just for a couple of days.”

Barry Smith’s side face an anxious wait to discover if a spot in the SPL awaits them following Rangers’ downfall.

Hopes of a rapid route out of the First Division were put on hold, though, as Lockwood and Co brushed aside English minnows Lancaster City.

And the left-back stressed it’s strictly business as usual until their fate is confirmed. He said: “The gaffer’s said it before and he’s dead right – we have to assume we’ll be in the First Division.

“We can’t get carried away and lose sight of that because if we do we could set ourselves up for a mighty fall.

“It’s a bad situation and ideally everyone would have liked it to be sorted out sooner. But this is just how it is and we’ll deal with it, whatever happens.”

Dundee proved too hot to handle against the Dolly Blues as two goals either side of half-time ensured a perfect start to their pre-season. Ryan Conroy signalled the visitor’s intentions right from the off, striking the woodwork inside eight minutes.

Seven minutes later and the ex-Celtic kid had the ball in the net, albeit with the help of City captain Neil Marshall who headed Conroy’s wicked cross into his own net.

Dundee were pegged back with five minutes of the first half remaining as Zac Clark cut in from the left to slot past Rab Douglas.

But Smith’s side showed their mettle after the break and earned their just reward when Stephen O’Donnell popped up to bag a deserved winner with a little over ten minutes left.

I spent Saturday afternoon surrounded by 200 scotsmen at Lancaster - I now know the words to Flower of Scotland and I hate Dundee United (mind you mt FTFC links means I've never been over struck on Orange/Tangerine). The winner was a fantastic lob over the keeper. keepy_uppy.gif

KTFC 0 Dundee 2

Dundee brought their first team squad to this fixture. Kendal Town matched them first half (0-0 HT).....as Ashy made his changes second half, he looked at trialists and the visitors took control of the game. Two late goals gave our visitors the win.

Dundee FC were a joy to deal with, we thank their officials, players and supporters for the game and would welcome them back at any time.

The take-up on season tickets continued. For that we, we as KTFC, are very, very grateful.

Our loyal supportes continues to amaze us winner.gif keepy_uppy.gif cheers.gif

Let's give you something to cheer.
