Creating a Character Mousie Will Love
Originally started as a character creation guide, this handy list of points will help you fine-tune your character to help you through the application process. It is strongly recommended that you also read the Quick-Lists for characters definitely not being accepted at this time, that can be found below the general points.

How to Create a Character Mousie Will Love...

1. Not killing your parents.
This drives me insane... if I have one more orphaned, or partly orphaned student with an alcoholic parent, or half a dead family, I'm going to close Tallygarunga's doors, call myself Miss Hannigan, and reopen the RPG as an institute for unfortunate orphans! When that happens, anyone who wants to play Annie, is most welcome! But for now... please! Could we have ONE traditional family??
2. This placed is based on Harry Potter, but it is NOT Harry Potter.
Throwing things from the book into your application isn't going to impress me. It'll probably bore me. I don't want "Deatheater" to be every second word, and nor do I want to hear that you were friends with Harry Potter himself... those sorts of things don't work for me. On that line, no relatives from book characters, suspiciously close names, or names of celebrities will be accepted here either.
3. Make your character different.
This is so terribly important, you can't understand. Check the class list, it's there for your use, for what kind of characters that we need and already have in excess. If applying for a professor, you should have already checked Available Positions. In order for this to work, people need different names. On that note, don't be afraid to be wild in your character creation. I'm certainly not going to bite your head off if you submit a midget dark-skinned african girl with a passion for the saxophone... I may even try to hug you! (Unless of course you DO make her a Sax player, where as I'll hunt you down with a chainsaw... j/k).
4. Perfection isn't everything. Flawed is fun!
Still on creating your character, here's the motto: Nobody is perfect. You aren't, Tabris isn't, and I'm certainly not! Everyone has flaws, just like we all have good points. Your character cant be popular, pretty, a perfect academic, have the ideal boyfriend... I want the nitty gritty here! I want to know what their failures are! If they're perfect... they obviously don't belong in school. Also please note, this is not a school for the ridiculously good looking. Make your character normal... ugly even! Hideous! Just not Derek Zoolander!
5. Relax... Admin will choose your character's house.
Regarding houses. You can't pick your house. I do that. However, in order to make life all cheerful (and because I've been asked several times for this) I'm going to put a brief description of each house below.

    Bourke:
The students of Bourke are a resilient and loyal lot. They will stick beside their friends to the point of death. They are trusting, and can often be betrayed by those they love most. In general, they are a brave and happy people.

    Flinders:
The most easy-going students of Tallygarunga, these range from the quiet academics, to the not so brave scholars. They are largely students with a good school record, they rarely get into trouble. They are good friends to those they have, and aren't always quite what they seem.

    Sturt:
Another generally quiet group, they are more absorbed in their dark and cunning thoughts than the Flinders students. They are skilled at scheming, don't often like or enjoy school, or have a more methodical and logical approach to things. Whilst they are not known for their pranks, and can be a morbid lot, it is not unknown for the odd Sturtian to break the shell, and lighten up a little.

    Spencer:
The most distinguishable of all the houses, these students are also the loudest. They have a pure love for life and all it brings like Flinders and Bourke, but also have a notorious reputation for being pranksters and class clowns. Most will have a sharp wit, sarcastic tongue, and talk back to student and professor alike.
6. Detail, detail, detail!
I love it. Give me more. I want to know absolutely everything there is to know about your character... if I've asked for a hundred words, I'm not going to kill you for writing three hundred. Quite the opposite. I'll probably love you forever.
7. Know your Keywords.
There are keywords, yes. And if you can't find them, you aren't reading the information given closely enough. On your application, you should have at least one key sentence... more depending on what sort of character you have.
8. Know your species.
It's all very well making a character which is one of the accepted unusual breeds of Tallygarunga... but with the different definitions of vampires and werewolves floating about, we decided it was time we put down in concrete what they are and what they aren't. So in Rules & Information, you'll find a topic for the breeds allowed. Read it. We'll know if you didn't.

Note: As students do not pick the house, we are aware that you cannot always abide by these guidelines. In all cases, we will suggest alternatives - be it a different year level, or change to personality to suit another house. We do not, never will and never have deleted an application for not abiding by the guidelines.

So there you have it. Steps to making characters I'll love. If you've learnt anything, you should have no problem making me happy and being accepted!

~ Mousie
