There was so much on the young Kings mind, that he hardly had a moment of thoughtless silence. The newest situation with the Land he and his siblings ruled was such a mind boggler, that it was consuming most of his time lately. Not to mention the fact that Isabella Vasquez, the princess who'd washed up on the shore of Pevensie cove, the princess, whom, he'd gotten so unconditionally fond of.... Had broken up with him when he'd never even really courted her in the first place. Peter knew it was for the best, the situation revolving around that entire relationship was rather complicated, and in itself, was a great deal to think about for him.

His hand clasped firmly around the hilt of his sword rhindon, he slaughtered up to the doors to the throne hall. It was just hours until supper, and he had finished all the royal duties he could think of for the day. So now, he'd retire to his throne, it may not have been the most continent place to sit and relax, but the throne hall, when there wasn't some kind of meeting going on, was usually kept empty, and Peter felt it was the best place to go at the moment, just to be alone and try to think about.. well, nothing.

He lifted the latch and pushed his way into the room, and shut the door which creaked shut behind him. He rested his back against it for a moment and closed his eyes with a sigh. Finally, he was alone. Peter rested for only a moment at the door before opening his eyes, expecting to find the hall empty, but was mistaken. There was a lone figure sitting on a bench, and staring at the four epic thrones. They appeared to not notice Peter's silent entrance, and for this, the king was glad. Not that he wanted to scare or startle the boy though.

The High King hadn't seen this one before from what he could make of them, but that didn't come as a shock, as he was sure there were a great number of people that he'd not had the pleasure of meeting in the castle. Actually, it was sort of a spooky thought, having people allowed in your home, and not knowing who on this wide plain they even were. Deciding that this person wasn't a threat, his released Rhindon and walked dutifully forward. He eyed his throne longingly as he stopped at the bench. He'd much rather sit there than this ruddy bench. In any case, he plopped him self beside the said person and looked over at them. No need to stand and be all formal. "I don't believe I've seen you around here before...." He started looking expectantly at the person.. Another thing Peter was unsure of, was whether or not this particular youth knew who he was...

L I V I N G I N T H E S K Y W I T H D I A M O N D S

'One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine...' Her head down, Effy Miles counted her steps as she walked, slowly and deliberately with a sort of catlike grace to her stride. Her steps looked almost cautious; as if she was afraid ne of the stones of the floor would fall out from underneath her at any moment if she went too fast or stepped too hard. Of course, she wasn't really afraid of falling through the floor; the stones were too tightly pressed together and too firm. The only possible reason for a hole in the floor would be if Hogwarts was attacked and someone deliberately made a hole in the floor. 'Why anyone would actually want to make a hole in the floor is ridiculous anyway. What kind of person would want to make people fall on purpose?' She wondered, looking up now but keeping her pace as she walked. She was meandering through the halls; she knew she shouldn't have been, after all, she was supposed to be in class. She was taking a long time to get back from the bathroom as it was. She usually did, though, Flitwick was used to it by now. He probably didn’t like it, but he was used to it. As long as she did well on tests and practical use exams, why bother her? Effy had always been rather apt at learning. She absorbed things like a sponge. That was probably the reason she was the way she was.

She stopped suddenly in the middle of the hallway, her eyes having caught sight of something on the floor. She leaned down, squinting at it. A crack in the stone. She pursed her lips. “I am not falling through you.” She murmured defiantly at the crack, moving to straighten her stance. As she did, she felt a strange sensation in her stomach, as if she was moving so fast that that it was being pushed back against her spine. It was a rather queer feeling and it caused her to stop moving altogether. She shut her eyes briefly, taking a deep breath. She straightened herself, the strange pulling sensation gone now. When she opened her eyes, she was greeted with the bright light of the sun shining directly above her. The sounds of wind dancing through leaves caressed her ears and an unfamiliar, but beautiful sight met her eyes. She was standing in a rather large, open courtyard, and before her stood a castle of enormous portions. She tilted her head back to take it all in until the sun obscured her vision with it’s brightness. She felt quite out of place in the middle of the courtyard, her school robes weighing her down in the apparently lightness of this place. And on top of that, she had no idea where she was or how she had gotten there. Surely it couldn’t have been a Portkey, she hadn’t touched anything. All she had done was talk to a stone in the floor. No harm had every come of that before.

She stepped toward the large castle, her steps once again cautious and slow, and she began counting again. ‘One, two, three, four, five…’ She counted in her mind, her eyes ever observant as she entered and took in everything in sight. The castle was as beautiful as it was huge and she found herself smiling at the décor and general splendor of the place as she walked. She had reached step two hundred and fifty nine when she was finally spotted but a scullery maid. The woman had kind eyes, she noted to herself before she was asked if she just arrived. Effy smiled and nodded. “Yes, I was talking to a crack and suddenly I was here.” She replied, as if talking to a crack on the floor was something that was completely normal. The woman smiled at her warmly and gently took her hand, saying she would show her to a room. Effy followed, letting the woman lead her on as she watched her surroundings. The maid talked to Effy as they walked, being very hospitable toward her even though Effy herself wasn’t speaking. It didn’t even look like she was paying attention. However, when they reached a room and the maid announced it, Effy thanked her very much for being so kind and telling her about the others that had come. It had helped to fill in a few blanks. She smiled at the maid and leaned in, kissing her cheek before she entered the room, leaving the woman with a somewhat baffled look on her face. The maid shut the door gently behind her and Effy did what she had been ding the entire time she had been there; she looked around. She was drawn immediately to a wardrobe after her musings and when she opened it, she found clothes in it, obviously. They weren’t what she had been expecting though. She gently pulled out a frock from the closet, admiring it with a smile on her face. ‘It’s so pretty… I hope I’m supposed to wear it.’ She put it up against herself and played with the hem, swishing it this way and that. She laid it on her bed gently and began to undress, removing the layers upon layers of the Hogwarts uniform and slipping almost seamlessly into the indigo colored dress she had found.

She left it at that, not bothering to put on shoes. She rather disliked most shoes, actually, they kept her from feeling the cool stone under her feet or the softness of carpet, should there be any underfoot. She left her room and began wandering once more, this time she wasn’t stopped by any maids and directly to a room, they let her wander, as she liked to do. It didn’t take long for her to reach the Throne Hall. She obviously was not aware of what lay beyond the door she was about to push open. She was only concerned with seeing whatever it was. She was rather happy to find it unlocked and so she slipped inside, closing the door behind her once she had. The hall was magnificent, all marble and pillars of light colored stone. She walked forward, fascination clear in her features. She spun around under the glass opening on the ceiling, the skirt f her dress flying about her waist as she did. And when she was done spinning, she sat down on a bench and stared forward at the marble thrones. They were all striking and well carved. They gleamed as if they had been just polished. She itched to touch them, but knew she shouldn’t. She was not a princess. Nor was she was queen. She did not have the right to sit on such a thrown or even touch one without the permission of it’s owner. She sighed to herself, watching the throwns in earnest, trying to imagine their owners. As she did, the door she had come through opened, creaking slightly. She did not start or turn to see who it was. They would reveal themself in due time. She continued staring at the throwns, tilting her head slightly to the side as she did, listening to the mystery person’s footsteps as they walked forward. They stopped and suddenly there was a body next to her on the bench. She felt eyes on her and then the person spoke, his voice inquiring.

“I don’t believe I’ve seen you around here before…” She smiled slightly, her gaze still on the throwns before her. “No, I don’t believe you have either.” She replied softly. She turned her head to face the stranger and her wide brown eyes met blue. She blinked and took in the look of the blond, blue eyed boy next to her. He looked… expensive. The material of his clothing was easily more luxurious than that of her own garment, she could tell just by looking at it. An idea struck her and she tilted her head as she looked at him. “Are you a prince?” She began, raising an eyebrow at him, “If you are, I’m afraid I’m not a princess. If you’re looking for one, I’m sure there’s one around here somewhere.” She continued, looking away from him and around the room once more, as if she expected a princess to pop up out of nowhere, much like she had herself. Then, she looked back at him, a cheerful smile in place. “After all, this is a castle.”

Well, that was a relief of some kind for the king. It meant he had more of a handle on all the faces of hogwarts, maybe even better than he realized. He nodded at her response, still looking at her, wondering how she'd gotten here. There were so many different stories of arriving it was crazy. When she turned, and look at him, she seemed to take in his appearance. He said nothing for noticing, just let her do or say what she liked for now...

Peter's lips curled into an amused smile. He chuckled. "Oh, I know you're not a princess." He chuckled, as she continued to assume he might be looking for a princess. He watched her look around for a moment then state that this was a castle, after all. Peter lit up at her fascination, much like he did when anyone commented on his home. "And I'm not actually a prince by the way. I'm Peter Pevensie. High King of this country, and this very castle." He said, looking at her, waiting to gauge her reaction. This girl was an interesting one. He held out his hand for her to shake if she wanted.

"Oh, I know you're not a princess." Well, that was quite a relief for Effy. If he had been expecting her to be one, she would have felt very bad for disappointing him. After all, from what she could tell of him, he was very polite and he had been kind to her so far. She watched the way his features seem to light up and her own cheery smile went up another notch. SO far, this meeting was going very well. She hoped to have made a new friend. He still hadn't answered as to whether he was a prince or not. He seemed to know that she wasn't a princess, so he must have been familiar with a few himself in some way. She had no doubt that there had to be more than a few girls with puppy love crushes on him, he was handsome. And polite, as she had thought before. 'I wonder if he already has a princess.' She thought to herself, her fingers unconsciously playing with the material of one of her sleeves. 'If he does, then I've embarrassed myself and him by assuming he was looking for one. It's not like he really needs help getting one anyway... And I implied tat he did, didn't I? No wonder I idnd't have a date to the Yule Ball, I underestimate so much... Like the size of that crack in the corridor, I wonder if I did fall through it after all. That would explain this as a hallucination or a dream then, wouldn't it? I wonder...' Her eyes seemed to become unfocused as she looked at him, her thoughts muddling her mind. There were so many possibilities as to why this was happening. She preferred this place though, there was a rather carefree air to it. On the surface, all there was was beauty and peace.

She was snapped from her toughts by his next words. "And I'm not actually a prince by the way. I'm Peter Pevensie. High King of this country, and this very castle." Effy blinked at him, her eyes wider than before. The smile fell from her face and her mouth formed an "o" from her surprise. 'A king! No, a High King. I've never met actual royalty before... A prince doesn't sound as amazing as a king does. Oh Merlin, I've met a KING!' Effy's face caught up with her thoughts as Peter extended a hand toward her. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to shake it or kiss his ring. Well, as she didn't really see any rings on his fingers, she raised her own hand to meet his, a jubuliant, smile exploding onto her face. "Oh, wow... It's a pleasure to meet you, High King Peter." She said as she shook his hand, "My name is Elisabeth Miles. But, do call me Effy, please; everyone does." She conitnued, adding the last part with a twinge of insistance in her voice. She disliked being called by her full name, it reminded her of times when her mother would scold her when she was younger. Of course, her nickname wasn't always the best alterative, either. Especially when someone added the "Off" in "Off Effy" to it. Effy paused, her hand lingering in his after the shake, before she pulled back and used it to brush some of her hair behind her ear. Her smile faltered just a bit as she spoke again, her voice still cheerful; "Your Highness... This isn't a hallucination, is it? I think perhaps I may have fallen through a crack in the floor and ended up in a coma of some sort... But, the others I was told about... they couldn't have fallen through the same crack and ended up in my dream, could they?" Her brow furrowed as she tried to sort her thoughts and then, realizing all that she had heaped on him so quickly, she apologized. "I've never met a royal before, so I'm a bit nervous."

Peter was amused at this girl. She seemed sort of.. Airy? He smiled when the look of genuine surprise crossed her face. His smiled wider when she shook his hand with.. was that excitement? He chuckled. "And a pleasure to meet you as well." He said sincerely, adding in a slight nod for greater effect.

He raised an eyebrow and laughed. "A crack on the- Goodness no. This is definitely real as anything for sure. You're fine Effy, trust me." He told her, with a nod, still smiling warmly. To her last comment he told her. "Don't be sorry," Peter insisted. "I'm pretty well the same as anyone else.. just, with a bit more responsibility. Ya' know?" He told her with a wink. "I'm just lucky Aslan chose us. But... I trust him. He knows what he's doing and turns out... I love being High King." Okay, now HE was starting to ramble.

"A crack on the- Goodness no. This is definitely real as anything for sure. You're fine Effy, trust me." So this place wasn't the product of a dream then. That made her both sad and happy, mostly because that meant whatever happened here actually happened. If it was a dream then she could just wake up and go back to what she was used to, even if this world was better. She would always wake up though, always. Because she knew that not every dream was perfect. Somewhere in that dream, in the deep dark hidy-hole of it's core there was a nightmare just waiting to bloom and swallow her whole. However, she still thought this world was too beautiful to be real, the people too kind to really be; and a part of her wondered where the nightmare lurked here. That same part smiled at him somewhat ruefully when he said she was fine. 'Not always... sometimes.' She thought to herself, looking down at her hands in her lap. She was fine now, yes, but what about later? She didn't know what was wrong with her, to be honest. She figured, from some reading, that it was a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but she still didn't know what really triggered it in her. The episodes and fits she sometimes went into... She wasn't a threat to anyone, all she really did was scream and cry, but it was still disturbing to see.

"Don't be sorry, I'm pretty well the same as anyone else.. just, with a bit more responsibility. Ya' know?" Effy looked up at him again, a genuine smile blossoming from her sad one. Her cheeks tinted sligtly in a blush when he winked at her. She wasn't sure why, it was a natural reaction, as ooposed to if he was an old creeper then she was sure she would have winced and scooted away from him on the bench. However, that wasn't the case, and he was being very kind to her. She knew his question wasn't really a question, but she nodded anyway, in understanding. Despite her problems, Effy prided herself on her ability to understand people easily, even if it wasn't always the other way around. She studied him for a moment as he continued to speak 'He's very down-to-Earth for a King... I wonder how long he's been king...' She wondered absently, making a mental note to ask him later.

"I'm just lucky Aslan chose us. But... I trust him. He knows what he's doing and turns out... I love being High King." "Aslan?" She repeated, trying out the unfamiliar name and furrowing her brow. She tilted her head, looking at him with confusion and blatant curiosity. "Who's Aslan? Was he High King before you?" She marveled at how a King would choose someone so young to lead his kingdom. And Peter had said 'us'; that meant there were more, didn't it? Her eyes moved from his to the beautiful throwns that sat before them. She longed to sit on one, but she knew she couldn't, that she musn't. They were for Peter and his fellow monarchs. They ruled this land from those very spots, watched over it all like stars in the sky. She smiled when he said he loved being High King, smiling at the untouchable throwns. "One sky, four bright stars..." She mused before looking back at him, "But, you're the brightest, aren't you? Are the other stars jealous?" She only heard herself speak, she didn't hear herself think until after she heard her question. Was it even possible for stars for feel jealous of one another? If they did, it was wonder that tey were always jolly enough to wink down at them from the heavens. Was it possible to be beautiful and jealous and happy all at once? She wondered how the they managed it and were still able to concentrate on keeping themselves from falling down. It didn't always work, obviously, as stars sometimes fell and were wished upon. But that was in her world. This place wasn't her world, so did the same principles still hold up? She wasn't sure.

Her sad smile turned to one of true happiness, and Peter felt a little bit better about meeting her here. He had wanted so badly to be alone here, but, the smile of genuine happiness she showed now, was worth bumping into her for. He loved seeing smiles like that on people.

Peter chuckled softly when Effy repeated Aslans name. "No, you wouldn't have heard of him yet would you?" he asked retorically with a chuckle, before addressig the topic again. "No, I don't think he ever was KING of Narnia... He's the one who created this world. The one who gave the beasts their voice, the one who help us save narnia from the rule of a wicked witch. He`s sort of like... the king of kings." He finished, wondering if his praise of the Lion was really a very good explination of him. One good enough to fill the void the curiousuity may have dug into this new comer. He could remember the feeling the first time he heard Aslans name. How his whole body became washed over with a sort of light. He had felt calm, and safe...

Now Peter tilited his head slightly. He had nodded to 'One sky, four bright stars...` but to her second comment... `But, you're the brightest, aren't you? Are the other stars jealous?' The king chuckled, he had never heard it put THAT way before. He shook his head. "No. As great as I am, I believe my sisters, my brother and I, are all just as bright as the other."[/i] peter hoped his anwser would be good enough for her.

"No, you wouldn't have heard of him yet would you?"Effy shook her head in agreement. She hadn't heard of Aslan. If this Aslan character had been in any of the history books at Hogwarts, she would have read about him at some point. That didn't matter though, did it? Because, she wasn't at Hogwarts anymore. She was in this world; Narnia. And apparently Aslan was just as important as Merlin here. He had the power to make Peter a king, after all. And if someone could just declare four people to be rulers of a place, then that person must be rather important, right? It made sense. And, of course, Peter seemed to think of Aslan highly.

"No, I don't think he ever was KING of Narnia... He's the one who created this world. The one who gave the beasts their voice, the one who help us save narnia from the rule of a wicked witch. He`s sort of like... the king of kings." Effy took a moment to let all this process. Gave te beasts their voice... This caught Effy's attention especially. Did that mean that the animals could talk. She voiced this question, excitement bubbling up in her. 'I've always wanted to have a conversation with an animal, dolphins and pigs especially... I've always wondered if it was true about them being so intelligent.' She thought with a growing smile. "Does that mean the owls can talk too? I wonder how they'd feel, knowing our owls are messengers." She mused with a soft laugh. Also wondered how it was possible to give animals a voice. She wasn't even sure there was a spell for it. What kind of magic could do that? Very powerful magic, she assumed. She guessed that Aslan was a very powerful king of kings then. It was understandable that he was seen as so important. As for his defeat of a wicked witch, Effy felt somewhat put out by that. There were evil witches and wizards, she knew, but not all of them. She wasn't evil, and her friends weren't. She wasn't sure about some of the Slytherins, but mostly everyone she knew personally was a good person. She bit her lip, the smile slipping somewhat. "Aslan sounds lovely. And very powerful. But, hopefully, you won't think that all witches are evil. I can't apologise enough for that witch's behavior, but we're not all that way." She said earnestly, smiling again. "I promise."

"No. As great as I am, I believe my sisters, my brother and I, are all just as bright as the other." Tilting her head at him once more, Effy was seemingly contemplating his words. He could very well be telling thr truth; she hadn't met his other siblings and they could be just as bright as him. Or, he could just be very modest. Either way, Effy smiled at him and leaned over, patting the back of one of his hands gently. "You're very sweet, King Peter." She told him with a nod. Then, she stood up and gathered up some of the skirt of her dress before climbing back onto the bench. And standing on it. She dropped the fabric of her dress and held her arms out on either side of her as she began to walk along it as if it were a balance beam in a gymnastics studio. If asked why she had decided to do this, her answer simply would have been that she was tired of sitting still. Effy liked to move, to be in motion. If she could, she would be a whirlwind. As she walked, she addressed Peter again, making sure that he knew she wasn't just leaving in the middle of their conversation. That would have been horribly rude of her. "How long have you been High King?" She asked, turning back to face him.

Peter was a bit shocked to hear that she'd apparently not encountered any talking beasts as of yet. She really must have been here only awaile then. He smiled to her talk of wanting to talk to pigs and dolphins. He nodded "Yes, all of the animals in Narnia can talk, from the smallest mouse to the largest bear." Peter told her, emphasizing the bit about animals, it was his way of getting across the fact that things like insects could NOT talk.

"Aslan sounds lovely". To think Peter simply hummed his agreement as she continued. "And very powerful. But, hopefully, you won't think that all witches are evil. I can't apologise enough for that witch's behavior, but we're not all that way." "I promise."

To this Peter shook his head and chuckled. "I know. I've already met alot of you, and it's clear to me that your lot and hers were of a very different kind." he assured her before the conversation continued.. sort of, Elizabeth Miles got up and began pacing the bench, Peter sat still; in his chair, amused by the girl who apparently could not stay still for to long. He laughed to himself.

"How long have you been High King?" She asked, turning back to face him. and succesfully snapping him out of his amusement. "Just over two years now." He told her confidently, stragihtening up in my seat.
