Title: Marquis Gra 2007!
Description: Space Pirates!!!

Mally - July 18, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
Anyone interested... now'd be the time to get tickets and get make room reservations for Marquis Gra 2007 in Valparaso, IN October 13 & 14th.

Marquis Gra

I have my room and I have my tickets... in the process of getting my costumes together. My Space Pirate... My Alien... and who knows...My swimsuit? LMAO!

If anything it'll be a chance to show off the tattoos... for some reason they are big at Trek Conventions. LOL... Need to remember to order that wig too...

But anyway... it'd be a cool way to meet up with others who can make it. I know I met many Trek Lovers at Camp Dover last year.

I know I have to have a door plaque this year so everyone knows who I write, where I write, and what groups to swing by to read up.

Hey Pete and Carlos...which banner would you like me to use to represent Liberator on my plaque? Let me know...would you please?

This sounds very interesting. Can you tell us a little more about it? Is it some kind of RPG/writer focused convention? I am intrigued!!!!

Pete... Found out at Camp Dover, that at most of these conventions, if you write in Online RPG's most of the people put together a sheet of who's in their room. Listing your real name at the top... then putting up pictures and names of your characters and the groups you write them in.

Didn't know what they were at first, but it's one way that everyone gets an idea of who's there and why.

They will have RPG sessions as well as D&D sort of Rollplaying there. Slave Auction for charity Saturday afternoon. Treasure hunt going on all weekend. A regular charity auction Saturday at some point. Costume contests... Alien and Space Pirate...

Just a ton of stuff.

This sounds like a lot of fun......AND the perfect chance to promote the site to a focused and dedicated RPG event. Mally, what are your thoughts on some kind of flyer or almost press release that would talk about the site?

Would you be comfortable handing something like this out to interested parties at the event?

Mally - July 19, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
Carlos...

I don't know about this one. I do know that most hotels are kind of funny about what you affix to your door or wall. So I don't know if I'll be able to have flyers out for people to take. I do know I can put together a page just for Liberator and hang it just outside the door.

But at the last convention...I also had a mini-book from another group that was going around.

"Federation Marshals"

Was making the rounds with links to various groups at the back of it.

I still have that running around somewhere in adobe format if anyone wants to read it. I don't know if that would be helpful or not. Make up some adventures that include the various Liberator characters and attach it to the door...LOL...

I'm open to ideas.

I'm thinking less a flyer (perhaps that was the wrong word) maybe more along a press pack or information sheet, where we would detail the history of the site, its strengths, the website address, etc.

Basically all the things you would SAY but in more detail. Maybe just a few paragraphs on an A4 sheet? It will save you repeating the same information over and over again, plus it lets people take that home with them and at their leisure soak up the information?

Mally - July 20, 2007 01:57 PM (GMT)
We can try for that...or something about the size of a note card. That way it doesn't take up too much space and I hopefully won't get into trouble for having it hanging along my door or on my door.

Maybe make use of the wonderfully slick color printer here... Hmmm... Shhh... Don't tell the bosses...LOL.

I'm off to see Nickelback this weekend but maybe when I get back we can work on that...

If you want to post a summary or something here...I'll copy it and work on a lay out for it.

I'll start work on it this weekend...and will send it over to you. This conference could be promising. We could really network some more great players to join us.

Exciting stuff! :)

Here's something I drummed up today. Following this, I was going to discuss the strengths of the site and some of the characters. But here's what I have so far -

January 1st 2004 saw the birth of Star Trek: Liberator, a fresh and dynamic new breed of online Trek RPG. Four years later, it has built a consistent cast and solid record of quality storytelling. But no matter the successes, Star Trek: Liberator is always looking to grow and improve with new writers to add to our talented cast.

Set in 2387 (several years after events of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Nemesis), the RPG focuses on the USS Liberator, an experimental deep space tactical vessel assigned to Sector D4-677. Six weeks from Federation borders, the crew of the Liberator are assigned a unique diplomatic and military mission.

The Free Republic is a small collection of worlds native to the sector, an alliance formed in the face of growing aggression from the Vectari Empire. As the resident superpower of the area, the Vectari have begun a ruthless expansion of their borders. Aiding their plans for conquest is the exploitation of an ancient and powerful race of beings, the Espers. Aliens from another realm gifted with unimaginable power.

The Vectari trap and use their energies to forge new weapons of destruction and fuel their fleets. It could spell destruction for the Republic and even the Federation if the chaos escalates. The crew of the Liberator must prevent that, while also preparing the fledgling Republic alliance for their entry into the United Federation Of Planets.

It’s a incredible challenge – a new ship, a new crew, new allies, new enemies and a whole new frontier. This is the universe of Star Trek: Liberator we invite you too.

I've made it back. Talk about a kickin' concert. Black Stone Cherry (New one on me), then Staind (good group to listen too, didn't say too much), then of course Nickelback... damn they are fine looking men...and sing really well.

Was deaf for nearly an hour afterwards...if that's any kind of guide... especially at an outdoor venue. LOL...pyrotechnics galore that just added to it all.

Only downside was all the dust making my allergies kick up and the hillside from hell that'll kill you coming down into the seating and climbing back up out of it when you've already been there for 5 hours. The drunk ones were fun to watch trying to traverse the huge expanse also.

Not blowing you off Carlos...I'll look at this when I can think straight tomorrow. Cuz my brain is still addled and stuffed with cotton.

Mally, did you get a chance to look at the proposal for the flyer? I'm going to add more but wanted some feedback from you on the first part.

Mally - August 19, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
I did read it Carlos. It reads well. My concern is the size. I'll have to use a smaller font especially if I'm going to fit one of our banners along the top to make an impression.

Add what you want to it and I'll see what I can do about fitting it on a page. That's the best I can offer at the moment.

Friendly reminder, I've got about three weeks left until this convention happens. The hotels (yes plural, though I only think there are two in Valprasio) are sold out for that weekend.

The real question will be my sanity... we're also into Fiscal year end at work and weekends might end up being mandatory for the next couple. So if it seems like I'm pushing things... sorry. Just hitting the points while I remember them at this moment.

Anything else... comms or e-mail me... will reply as soon as I can.

2 weeks and counting!!!

One costume is mostly done. The other needs to be finished when we get there...it's one of those 'Put it on and pray it stays on' kind of deals. LOL...

I've got a new chip for my digital camera since this old fashioned film camera of mine ain't so great.

Got the hotel room...
Got my door plaque almost done... how I'm gonna fit it on one page is gonna be...

Easy

Only have a handful of sites to list anymore... everything else is dead.

So heads up... Oct 11 - 15th I'm likely to be MIA. Then I'm being invaded by company the 19th thru the 22st... so I don't know what kind of chaotic mess I'll be in during that time.

Any suggestions? Any specific pictures I need to try to capture? I know the slave auction will be fun Saturday night.

Door Flyer for Marquis Gra 2007

It didn't turn out exactly like the page I have created to hang on my door. Liberator page is totally separate and I've not even attempted to post that to a URL at the moment...

Thoughts?

Carlos... I have the Liberator flyer done, but what I've done instead of making up tons of copies to make a mess all over the hallway (which is sounds like the pirate wars might make more of a mess), I made little info strips that I've cut up that have the link to here and what it is. That way someone can pull it out of the little tray and stuff it in a pocket or down a costume or something.

I took what you wrote and put the Liberator banner at the top that has the symbol in it and then put a picture of Liberator herself at the bottom. I think it looks pretty sharp... especially now that I've printed it out on the office's way impressive color machine. I need to get my little banner modified so it'll print on that machine too...then I'll be set.

EVERYONE ELSE.... I'm down to 6 days roughly of internet access. If you need/want to write anything... comms or e-mail me. I'll answer as soon as I can. After Thursday I won't be near a computer again until Sunday Night/Monday Afternoon.

I'll upload pictures then. LOL...

They've got the entire schedule posted now for the convention... should be loads of fun and lots of late nights... hehehe...

I see what you mean about flyer space. Trying to fit what I had in mind onto that sheet would have been like trying to fit Lord Of The Rings onto a postage stamp.

All I can say is - most importantly - go and enjoy yourself. Talk about the site as much as possible and focus on what makes us special. Tell people about the character and storylines. Tell them about the family of talent we've gathered. Tell them about what makes us unique and fresh.

Most of all, tell them about why YOU like this place. If people can see your passion, it will likely excite them into wanting to learn more. You never know, they may throw a few suggestions for their character at you once you get them interested.

I'll be interested to hear how it went - its going to be a fertile place of commited writers who love Trek. You should at least be able to get people to listen with some level of interest.

Enjoy, be safe and tell us how it all went upon your return :)

Just got back... have to say I'm kind of bummed out. This convention did not live up to it's potential but they are stating that the next one should be much better...

Here's hoping.

Will write more when I get the pictures developed.
