QUOTE
Last week, reports out of Japan said Square Enix president Yoichi Wada was considering making Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest multi-platform franchises, a stark contrast to the Sony-exclusivity that's been the company's policy for the past two hardware generations. Square Enix later told 1UP these reports were inaccurate.
Square Enix has now issued a press release meant to clarify the statements from Wada. "...speculation about the availability of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest game series on these systems have been reported in various media," says the release. "However, we have made no concrete decision on our strategic direction of this issue."

The wording of the statement is deliberate, and actually does little to refute Wada's quotes, inaccurately reported in the Japanese press or not. Square Enix is purposely leaving the door open to the possibility of expanding their top-tier franchises onto other platforms with their "no concrete decision" wording.

That doesn't mean the company is planning to bring their franchises onto Microsoft and Nintendo's consoles, but it's not impossible. What actually happens should become clear as Square Enix makes more next-generation announcements in the coming months. Stay tuned; this issue's far from resolved.
