Hey there, just randomly stumbled here from a shoryuken.com post. I tried to play this version ("2.9 with sounds") but it crashes on load:
Also, game_errors.log is empty. I use 32 bit WinXP and have a fairly modern machine. 2.3 does the same thing. |

I would assume that's a problem with the dll, though I can't really say for sure.
game_errors.log is going to be empty unless the game itself reports an error, and it didn't so that's not a big deal. Did you extract everything first? I know it sounds obvious but it's all I can really think of. |

I have the following files in the game folder:
Control Edit Information.txt fmod.gif fmodex.dll game_errors.log GMFMODSimple.dll Movelist.doc README.txt sda_controls.ini sda_gamepad.ini sda_options.ini sda_sounds.ini SDA_v2_9.exe Sound Edit Information.txt and a folder Sounds with 25 files in 4 folders I doubt it has to do with the dll since version 2.3, which doesn't use a dll, gives me the same problem. Maybe there's a missing file somewhere in there, or a hidden dependancy on something installed on my system? I do have the .NET frameworks up to 3.5 if you're using them. |

Yes, I've just made sure of that by downloading the latest version from Microsoft - still crashes.
Does Game Maker require that I have anything special? |

No it doesn't. It's certainly a little odd.
Does it crash after, during, or before it loads? I doubt this would help me understand any better on why it does this, but out of curiosity. Maybe its a memory issue? Though I doubt it... My RAM is pretty minimum, 256 and it runs 46-50 (max) FPS almost every single time if I have things like Windows Live Messenger closed. |

It doesn't apparently do anything before crashing. Double click the exe, crash window pops up. And yeah, it's a modern gaming rig, so I doubt performance is the issue
![]() But! I've just tested it on my weaker laptop and it works perfectly. So I'm really not sure what's up with that. |

Appears to be an FMOD issue rather than GM.

@ titusthree - That's what I was assuming, but v2.3a didn't use FMOD.
@ Thelo - Well at least you got it working somewhere. Hope you get to actually try it out. |

Well, let me say, the graphics,
PHENOMENAL!! I'll rate and then tell you what I think the only problem is. 10/10 Graphics(Front) 10/10 Animation(I love the unique responses to kicks and punches) 2/10 Controls 8/10 Game Design 9/10 Backgrounds 8/10 Sounds . Now, the problem is if you were playing with two people, your hands would be touching. Did you design the controls so you could hold hands with your girlfriend/boyfriend? Anyway, fix the controls, like P1 could be the arrow keys space and . and control. P2 could be wasd and shift lmb and rmb. |

The game was not designed to be played on a single keyboard at all. The controls have been designed in a way that allow for custom control setups, and to keep the other player's controls out of the way if one person decides to use a keyboard* and the other a gamepad or joystick.
Keep in mind the game was designed for joystick and gamepads in mind, not a single keyboard. Playing 2 players on a single keyboard in a game that requires so many presses at a time would be disastrous. |

If you've extracted it first, you shouldn't have any problems.
What exactly did the error say? It should be in the error.log file, that is, if you extracted the .zip. If you didn't, that is probably why you are getting an error. |
