Probables: Joshua Patrick Beckett v. Michael Cole Mussina

Youk's toe is sore, but he's feeling OK to play.
QUOTE
He called Terry Francona and told the manager to put him in the lineup -- or else.

Or else?

"Or I would annoy him all game (in the dugout),'' said Youkilis.

"It's sore,'' said Youkilis. "But as long as I can put my shoe on and be able to stand on my toes, I'm good. It's not painful when I walk.''

Manny!

Mussina must be seeing Manny in his nightmares.

nah, Beckett not showing anything special tonight. it's fascinating to me that two pitchers with similar stuff, hell, the same pitcher in two different seasons, could get such different results. the difference between good/great/mediocre just doesn't seem like much.

Interesting from Bradford's blog on Beckett vs. Yankees (from Inside-Edge):
QUOTE
- Josh Beckett beat the Yankees on Saturday, but they continued to hit his fastball hard. Last year, the Yankees batted .301 against Beckett’s heater, compared to .248 by every other team.  For reference, the league average against all fastballs last year was .285.  On Saturday, the Yankees got all five of their hits off Beckett fastballs.  The good news for Beckett is that the Yanks did not get a single hit off of the seven changeups he threw on Saturday; they batted a gaudy .600 against his changeup last year.

Nope, Mel.

That's the second time this season Ellsbury's gone on a pitchout and made it easily.

In the first, I thought it was a hit-run, the way Pedroia hit the ball he had no chance to get back.

Manny absolutely crushed that ball.
